"Sister, please don't reject me."

Chapter 1 Are You Avoiding Me

"Are you avoiding me, Evelin?"

He whispered softly in my ear, his broad, warm hand effortlessly encircling my slender waist.

I never imagined that such a friend since childhood would one day pin me against the bed and utter such vulgar talk.

Jed Graham lifted his well-defined fingers, gently raising my chin, and with a half-smile, said, "Evelin, there's nothing dirty about love between a man and a woman."

I turned my head away coldly, nearly gritting my teeth in anger as I spoke, "Jed, you make me feel dirty."

His fingers stiffened slightly, and the smile on his face vanished instantly.

"Is Sebastian Murray not dirty?"

He leaned closer, his eyes fierce, and bit my lip as hard as he could, as if he was venting his anger.

I trembled in pain, and he suddenly stopped, his eyes reddened with grievance.

He held me tightly, his voice choked, crying and begging me, "Evelin, I'm sorry... Please, don't leave me..."

My heart ached with sorrow.

He released his embrace, his cold fingers holding my hand, guiding it to his exquisite face.

Just now, his eyes were still revealing indifference and anger, but now they were already red filled with tears.

"Evelin, you're all I have left." He sobbed, his gaze pleading, as if I were his only salvation.

His tears fell on the back of my hand, his slightly curled eyelashes now wet and clumped together, adding a touch of vulnerability to his handsome face.

I couldn't help but curl my fingers, wiping away the tears beneath his eyes. "Sebastian and I have broken up."

A glimmer of joy spread through Jed's fragile eyes. He grasped my hand, almost crying with happiness, "Really? Evelin!"

His previously downcast eyes now shone brightly, wide open and full of anticipation as he looked at me.

I suddenly felt a pang of sympathy for him.

All these years, I never realized Jed harbored such deep feelings for me.

He hid it so well that I always saw him as a younger brother, and at times, he even protected me like an older brother.

Now I knew that he was just acting strong and paranoid on purpose to hide his true emotions.

In fact, after being aggrieved, he would only hide in secret and cry, like a puppy curled up in a corner licking its wounds alone.

I nodded, smiling gently, "Of course, when have I ever lied to you?"

Jed seemed to come alive, hurriedly and clumsily unraveled the handcuffs on me. "Evelin, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, dear, are you hurt? It's all my fault, please don't be mad, okay? Dear..."

After freeing me, he obediently squatted on the ground, looking up at me with blinking eyes. "Evelin, if it makes you feel better, you can hit me..."

He extended his hand, lowering his head in dejection. "I never wanted to hurt you, dear. I just like you so much, sometimes I can't control myself... Dear, you can hit me..."

With reddened eyes, he held my hand and pressed it against his face, fear of my departure evident in his eyes, yet still smiling. "Evelin, just hit me. If you do and feel better, then you won't leave me..."

My heart ached, and I cupped his face, kissing him softly. "I won't hit you, don't worry."

Jed looked at me dumbfounded, his eyes instantly welling up. He reached out to hold me tightly, burying his head in my neck, choking out, "Dear, please, don't leave me, okay? I'll do everything you want..."

"Carroll Brown is dead! But you have to marry him in your sister's name." My mother said to me in a cold tone. My sister was engaged to the hottest billionaire. It should have been a perfect marriage. Unexpectedly, Carroll was dead in an accident. My sister didn't want to become a widow, so she forced me to marry her dead fiance. And I had no right to refuse her. Actually, I was the biological daughter of the Smith family. My sister was an adoptive one. My sister and I had been swapped at the hospital when we were just born. My parents had already had a deep relationship with her. So they chose to sacrifice me. On the wedding day, I was taken to the mourning hall. "Ma'am, please keep Master company and let him feel warm." The housekeeper said with a cold expression. I couldn't help but look up at the portrait above the coffin, and my heart skipped a beat at this glance. The man in the portrait was more handsome than the superstars in Hollywood. Carroll Brown? My dead husband? Wow, he was really handsome! I didn't know how long had passed when my stomach began to rebel. After one glance at the coffin, I swallowed my saliva and then begged with my fingers crossed. "Mr. Carroll, I'm starving! May I eat your pastries? You don't mind, do you?" "I do." "Ah!" Scared, I broke out in a cold sweat. My legs went limp, and I fell to the ground. I shouted, "Ghost!" Carroll curled his lips, leaned over, and touched the black coffin. "Mr. Carroll has risen from the dead. What do you think of this headline tomorrow?"
