It was Damien, and he was clothed in a dark suit that made him look a lot older and more mature than he was. I couldn't believe it was the same guy I had fooled around with throughout my childhood. He was handsome and stood tall among the crowd. I couldn't let anyone notice me staring at him and quickly averted my gaze, but he arrived a split second later. "Happy birthday, Ayla," he said with a charming voice. I looked him in the eyes. I knew this birthday wasn't just to celebrate the age but the things that came with it, but this was what we were going to say anyway, so I had to reply appropriately. "Thanks, Damien. I didn't think you knew that word for the last few years; you have only looked for my trouble on my birthdays. I wonder what has changed today," I replied, looking up at him. "A lot has changed; you know what this ceremony is about. I'll be attending your wedding soon, and I only hope it's not as the groom," he replied with a chuckle. "No worries there. I would kill myself if I found out that you were my Mate. Besides, I don't think the Gods would be so cruel to me by making you my Mate," I replied. "Fair enough. I wish you good luck with your new age," Damien replied with a grin before leaving. Melissa approached me a few moments later and asked me if I was sure I didn't want Damien as my Mate, to which I replied 'No' almost immediately. I sat down when the audience had all taken their seat, and a few minutes later, the birthday turned into a party as they played exotic music, which caused everyone to get onto the dance floor. I was not to be left out, as my f
