Ayla Zephyrine is the granddaughter of the former Alpha, and she is loved and respected by all the members of the Wolfpack. As the years passed, Ayla having become of age, Ayla prepares to meet her mate. However, after a few months, She is still not able to meet her mate, as the path to her destiny is not a smooth one. Forced to a corner, Ayla and her grandmother are forced to consult the pack's priest, who tells them she cannot tell who will be her mate because of a curse her grandfather had incurred on their family during one of his battles and she now knew she would have to find out for herself or never get married. When Ayla's father finds out that the curse fell upon his daughter, he is disappointed and he hoped she would get betrothed to his friend's son and unite their bloodline. However, this is not to be so. Out of impatience and frustration, Ayla's father decided to get her forcefully married to his friend's son anyway, who hasn't gotten his mate yet, too. Ayla can either get betrothed to his friend's son, or he would disown her as she is seen as not worth anything to him anymore. Constantly getting bullied by her father, Ayla succumbs and decides to do as he says but is advised to do otherwise by her grandmother, who believes there is a way to break the curse, and she only needs patience to find it. With the flames of her inner strength reignited, Ayla embarks on a transformative quest to unravel the mysteries of her true identity, unleash the full fury of her dormant abilities, and shatter the shackles of a centuries-old curse that has silenced her inner voice.

Chapter 1 Nightmare

I kept running; amid the forest, there was no suitable point to hide, so I had no choice but to keep running. The man I saw was one like no other. If given a chance, I was sure he would soon stab me to death. "Keep running, keep going," I kept telling myself, but my pursuer was far faster than I was and more experienced in navigating the environment. If it weren't for my vision, I would be dead already. The sound of another arrow came again, and I was forced to change my movements suddenly to evade it. I wasn't experienced in this so this time I fell.

However, it was high ground, and I rolled into a valley. I tried my best to stop moving, but I couldn't. Eventually, I reached the end of the valley, bruised and in a lot of pain. So many questions flooded my mind. Who was this man, and why did he want me, of all people? I wanted to ask him, but I didn't have the chance. Suddenly, I heard the sound of boots crushing leaves with full force. It was him again; the hunter had already tracked me so quickly and was coming to attack again. I couldn't believe my ears. Even if I heard better than most people, I still didn't want to think he had chased me even into this deep valley. I stood up, desperate to escape the assault that would soon lead to my death. However, I was slower than I anticipated, and the hunter finally caught up to me. I took a defensive stance, trying to fight him off for as long as possible, but it was useless. This man had killed so many mighty warriors for different clans, and clearly, a little girl like me stood no chance against him. With a menacing smile on his face, he opened his jacket, revealing a cluster of weapons that was arranged on him carefully. The man took nothing but a little knife, and this scared me even more. I could smell his desperation; he was going to stop at nothing until my death. Nevertheless, I attacked him with all my strength, which was nothing to the man. With the little knife, he evaded all my attacks and began to slice me in different parts. I shrieked in pain, which made him laugh heartily. He was having the time of his life. I tried to keep on fighting, but then he sliced my tendons, and I collapsed to the ground. I was doomed now; it was the end. All my dreams and goals would be a mere dream now that would soon be forgotten. Suddenly, he dropped the knife and brought out an ax that shone gloriously in the moonlight. I closed my eyes, expecting my death, when I heard a loud howl that shattered the silence. *** I woke up to the sound of birds chirping from far away. I looked around; I was in my parent's room. There was no one on the bed beside me, which meant they had headed out already. Squinting my eyes, I tried to remember the night before. I had snuck into my parent's room to sleep because I feared sleeping alone. They had woken up and welcomed me to sleep beside them despite having told me to get used to sleeping alone. But it wasn't my fault. I belonged to people who had advanced levels of senses, and even among them, mine was often considered superior. I could hear the woman washing the plates the next three houses away. I knew the smell of most and all types of things. Living this way made me feel powerful as I never needed to ask about anything since I could always use my heightened senses to find it. I remained unfazed in every circumstance and exuded a self-confidence the likes the world had never seen. I stood up and rushed to the kitchen. With my sense of smell, I could tell that a lot was happening in that room. I knew I had to get there during the meal preparation so I would get the chance to disturb them with my pettiness. I also had to get there before the meal was ready so I would have an excuse to take as much junk food as I could before the main meal was ready. I tossed my golden hair behind my ear and walked into the kitchen with two hands behind my back. Unfortunately, I was late as the meal was almost ready, but I was still determined to talk to my favorite chef, which I often called my aunt since my mom was okay with it. Immediately I walked in, she noticed, and I saw a beautiful smile on her face. She hadn't seen me walk in, so I was sure she had sensed my presence. I walked to stand beside her; I was young and petite. On the other hand, she was huge, and my head reached her shoulder. "Good morning, aunt," I said as I walked in with my hand rubbing my eyes and my other hand at my side. "Good morning, dear. How was your night?" "It was fine. I slept in my parent's room, but they were already gone when I woke up. I wonder how they managed to leave without my knowledge. When we sleep, we must be weak." I added. "Yes, not only weak but defenseless as well. This is shy. You are often told to be careful with how much sleep you have because if there's an attack, you would be aware of it and escape." my ain't replied seriously. "What do you mean by attack?" I asked, genuinely curious as I had never heard of such things. "Well, sometimes bad people come to the village to attack us, and we must try our best to defend ourselves against them. If not, we will lose something precious to us. Luckily, we have powerful warriors guarding us, so you don't have to worry too much about your safety, but it's still necessary to ensure you're cautious of your safety." she replied. "Why? What will they do to us if they come? This bad me; what is their purpose, and what do they want from us?" I asked, curious about what the strange words meant. "They have only one goal. They love to spread pain. Once they have entered the city, they go about spreading pain. That's a depressing topic you're asking about, and I would prefer it if you didn't ask about it. Now, the meal will soon be ready, and I want you to be fully ready by then, so run along now and have your bath." She replied with a smile. Something about how she did it seemed like a serious subject to me, and so I decided not to ask any further questions on the subject as she was getting worked up by it. I knew my aunt was very cheerful, so I was sure there was something wrong with what I was doing, so I abandoned the subject. Whatever the case, I wouldn't disturb her for answers any longer. "Thanks, aunt, I will be back soon," I replied and left. This was childhood for me; everyone loved me, and then, when I became much older, I was taken to a knitting school that I attended daily.
