"You still don't have a boyfriend. When are you ever going to have one?" Tim, one of my friends shot the question.
"Don't get me started about a boyfriend. Don't just get me started on it, Tim" I replied immediately, shooting him a glare which I knew would not stop him from continuing the topic anyways.
"C'mon, you are like 24 with absolutely zero dating experience. What the hell is that?" Tim asked with a small laugh.
"I will never understand Rosalinda" Melinda shook her head, dropping her glass of wine and then running a hand through her blonde hair.
"Y'all let her breathe" Rick cut in.
"Don't you... Don't you get sexual urges?" Tim went on anyways.
"Just shut up now" I shot him a more serious glare and that seemed to shut him up as he pressed his lips into a thin line.
The answer though was... Yes I did. I did get sexual urges and yes I didn't exactly want to be 24 with zero dating experience but I just could not help it.
It had to be this way. I had quite a number of guys after me and even a girl or two had their eyes on me but I chose to be single.
There was one thing about me. I had this really brave font and to most people, I was bold and courageous but inside of me, I knew I wasn't actually all that.
I was timid and easily felt embarrassed. I was so fucking shy when it got to things like dating and loving. Not to talk of sex. I hated the idea of being vulnerable. Of being naked and open to someone else, completely.
That vulnerable state was something I was scared of and that was why I had shied away from dating, loving and sex but I had read enough on these topics.
More than enough.... Smut books.
"C'mon, have your drink. Are you perhaps lost in thoughts?"
"Of course not" I faked a smile, picking of my glass of wine.
"Cheers!" Melinda screamed at the top of her voice and the others roared with excitement as we all clinked glasses.
I took my glass to my lips and gulped it all down before setting the glass back on the table.
"Aren't we going to dance?" Liam asked and everyone immediately got up to their feet.
"Not me. I am fine" I brushed it away.
"There goes the Miss. Serious. C'mon, have some fun! We are celebrating you here"
I almost rolled my eyes at the statement. Yeah, they were celebrating me. But what for? For bagging a job in the biggest company in the country few days after graduation??
The company belonged to my father's adopted brother anyways, so me getting a job there was actually quite easy and nothing worth celebrating but then... My friends won't let that pass.
"I really don't want to dance"
"You can be such a bore at times. C'mon, please" Tim pressed.
"Let her be now. Don't force her to dance when she isn't in the mood to do so." Rick supported me.
"There we go. The Mr. Serious supporting Ms. Serious"
"I don't feel like dancing too. Y'all go ahead" Rick added.
"Alright" they all grumbled and then moved to the dance floor while Rick plopped down beside me.
"They can be quite bothersome" he chuckled.
"I agree" I laughed softly too.
I had met every other person here at the uni but Rick had been my highschool friend. We have been friends for years now and he was really close to me.
"Did your Uncle pull strings to get you into the job? The entire thing was really fast"
"I guess he did but I don't really know. It seems he has forgotten that he left me here. Five years since he left and he barely calls. It's been... About six months since we last talked but I don't really know" I shrugged my shoulders.
"I am applying to the company too. Hopefully I get a spot"
I squinted my eyes at him.
"Really? You have to be everywhere I am?" I asked him playfully.
"I have to protect you. I am your big brother" he replied playfully.
The dummy was only a month older than I was.
"In your dreams" I laughed.
