Everyone in the city of Westrington knew that Claire Harrington, the youngest daughter the Harringtons found and brought back years ago, was the fiercest woman in town. Her husband, Gavin Fulton, wasn't just the only heir to Fulton Group-he was also the most sought-after surgeon in the entire city. They pampered Claire, let her run wild, and gave her everything she ever wanted. Her older brother, Graham Harrington, had her back at the company. He once swore publicly that the company would always belong to Claire, and he was just the one making money for her. The only one who ever encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone was Nina Harrington, the "wrong heiress" raised in Claire's place. Nina told her to be independent, to stop relying on others. Claire laughed it off, thinking Nina was just overthinking everything. Until the news hit-Nina had been stabbed in the Harrington Group underground garage. Claire rushed to call the one person she trusted most-Gavin. But the reply from the hospital shattered her. Gavin was in surgery... saving the man who'd attacked Nina. Even her brother Graham redirected all available medical staff to ensure the attacker survived. Claire screamed. She begged. She dropped to her knees, pleading with them to save her sister. But Graham simply ordered someone to restrain her. "Claire, calm down, would you? She's not even your real sister. Even if you lose her, you still have a husband and a brother who love you. But Marissa... she's different. And that man we're saving, he raised Marissa for over twenty years!"

The Heiress They Betrayed Chapter 1

Graham bent down gently and wiped the tears from Claire's face.

Then, without a flicker of hesitation, he signed the Do Not Resuscitate order and told the staff to send Nina-who hadn't even drawn her last breath-straight to the morgue.

"Stop crying, Claire. She's not worth your tears. I didn't want her to die either, but... unlucky things happen. Years ago, when I was trapped during that earthquake on a business trip, it was Marissa's frail adoptive father who dug me out with his bare hands. You're my real sister. That debt belongs to you to repay."

Same face. Same warm voice. But every word Graham said made Claire's blood run cold.

She couldn't understand it. How could her usually gentle brother say something so cruel?

She'd only known Nina for ten years, but Graham had lived with her for twenty-eight.

Hell, people got attached to their pets after a few years, and he had Nina for twenty-eight!

And even if he did owe that man something, why did it have to be paid with Nina's life?

Claire's eyes were burning red with rage. She ripped the signed DNR form from Graham's hands and tore it to shreds.

"She's still alive! And you-you won't save her, but you'll save the man who tried to kill her? You don't care? Fine. I do. As long as I'm still breathing, I won't stop until that bastard pays for what he's done!"

She turned and stormed off.

Gavin wasn't the only surgeon in the city. Even if he was in the OR, someone else could save Nina.

But before she got far, Marissa Rowe suddenly dropped to her knees and grabbed Claire's sleeve, sobbing.

"I'm sorry, Claire. This is all my fault. Punish me however you want! I just... I beg you, please spare my adoptive father. He's no saint, but he raised me for more than twenty years... If someone has to pay, let it be me. Take my life. Just let him go. That's the least I can do to repay him."

Graham rushed over and pulled her to her feet, his voice filled with anger and disappointment-directed not at Marissa, but at Claire.

"Look at what I've turned you into over the years... So selfish. So heartless. Nina was a fake heiress. A stand-in. She used the Harrington name to bully people for years. This? This is just karma."

Marissa shook her head gently. "Claire only did it out of desperation to save her sister. Please don't blame her."

Graham let out a cruel scoff. "Let me be honest with you, Claire, every surgeon capable of operating is already in that OR trying to Marissa's dad. As for Nina? The only place she's headed is the morgue."

Claire trembled with rage, her fists clenched so tightly that her nails pierced into her palms. But she seemed completely numb to the pain.

"I don't believe for a second that no doctor in all of Westrington can help her! Just wait and see!"

Kicking off her heels, Claire sprinted barefoot down the corridor, racing toward the hospital morgue.

By some miracle, she managed to catch the gurney just as it reached the doorway.

She tore away the bloodstained sheet without hesitation.

Nina was soaked in blood. The once-fair, beautiful face was now covered in deep, crisscrossing knife wounds.

The sight was gut-wrenching.

Yet even like this, she still forced a gentle smile at Claire.

"Don't cry, Claire."

Nina lifted a trembling hand, trying to wipe Claire's tears like she used to.

Claire grabbed her hand tightly, breaking down. "You'll be okay. I'll get you transferred. Someone will operate. I promise!"

But reality came crashing down like ice water.

Every hospital in Westrington turned her away. Even the few doctors she thought she had good relationships with responded coldly, "We're under strict orders from the top. No one is to perform surgery on Ms. Nina Harrington. Please don't make this harder for us. Honestly, you'd be better off begging that almighty brother of yours."

Claire was crushed. She had never imagined Graham could be this heartless.

She tried calling Gavin again, and again, but he never picked up.

Suddenly, Nina coughed hard, blood pouring from her mouth.

Claire panicked. One hand tried to hold Nina steady while the other pressed down on the gushing wound, desperate to stop the bleeding.

Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face. "Please... just hold on. I'll figure something out. I swear I'll save you."

Nina slowly shook her head, her pale lips moving as if trying to say something.

Claire leaned in close, ear nearly touching her mouth, finally able to make out the words.

Six years ago, I was a naive girl sold by my father to the powerful Sanders estate, only to be tossed onto the streets after a brutal assault they labeled "marital infidelity." I fled the country pregnant and broken, hiding from the shadow of a husband I had never even met. Now, I’ve returned to New York with my triplets to sign the final divorce papers and disappear forever. But Archibald Sanders—the man I was told was a crippled recluse—intercepted us with the cold precision of a predator. He didn't see the woman his family destroyed; he saw a gold-digger who had shamed his name. His security team hunted us to a grimy motel, using tactical force to snatch my children away and drag me to his glass-walled empire. In his office, he loomed over me, demanding a DNA test and threatening to throw me in prison while my babies were lost to the foster system. He was convinced I’d cheated, yet he stared at my sons with a haunting confusion, unable to ignore the stormy blue eyes that were a perfect mirror of his own. I stood there, paralyzed by his scent—the sharp tang of rain and expensive leather that triggered the icy dread of my worst nightmares. How could he accuse me of betrayal when he felt exactly like the monster who had shattered my life in that dark hotel room? "I'll sign anything," I sobbed, "just give me my kids." But the game changed when my five-year-old son hacked the tower’s security, holding the skyscraper hostage to save me. In the chaos, a fragile, silent boy—Archibald’s secret son—wandered into the room and reached for me as if I were his missing soul. Archibald’s face turned to stone as he tore up the agreement and locked the doors. "Until I find out why my son is looking at you like that," he growled, "you aren't going anywhere."

I spent three years playing the role of a submissive, small-town wife for Evertt Baker, trading my true identity for a quiet life in a Manhattan penthouse. I thought my devotion would be enough to build a real home, but I was just a placeholder in his grand design. The illusion shattered at 2 AM when Evertt walked in smelling of Chanel No. 5—the signature scent of his mistress, Adda. Without a word of apology, he dropped divorce papers on the table, demanding I sign them immediately so he could finally be with the woman he truly loved. He looked at me with pure disgust, flicking a five-million-dollar check toward me as if he were paying off an incompetent employee. He told me it was more money than anyone from my "trailer park" background would ever see and ordered me to hurry because Adda was waiting in the car downstairs. He didn't care that I had spent years nursing him through illness and tolerating his family’s insults; he only cared about his own convenience. The sheer arrogance of his payout and the blatant disrespect of bringing his mistress to our home was the final blow. I realized that the man I loved never actually saw me, only the submissive shadow I had forced myself to become. I signed the papers with a fluid scrawl he didn't bother to check, then I fed his millions into the office shredder. I pulled a hidden, encrypted device from a kitchen drawer and dialed a number I hadn't called in three years. "Brother," I said, my voice finally steady. "Come get me. The game is over." Evertt thought he was discarding a penniless nobody, but he was about to find out that he had just declared war on the Stafford empire.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

For seven years, I drank the bitter tonic my fiancé, Alpha Adrian, gave me, believing it would cure my "wolfless" defect. I was wrong. It was poison. He wasn't trying to heal me; he was keeping me weak so he could replace me with my foster sister, Ariel. When the fire consumed the Alpha's Wing, I was trapped under a burning beam, my legs crushed. Adrian kicked down the door. I reached out to him, screaming for help. But he didn't look at me. He looked at Ariel, who was lying on the floor in a silk nightgown. He scooped her up, cradling her like she was the only thing that mattered. I begged him not to leave me. Instead of helping, he used his Alpha Command on me, his voice booming with supernatural weight. "Stay put! I'll be back for you!" It was a lie. He used his power to freeze me in the inferno and left me to burn alive. I survived, only to watch him publicly reject me for her the next day, with my own father's blessing. They called me a "genetic dead end." They thought I would crawl away and die in shame. I didn't. I limped up the mountain to the Neutral Lands to find the one man everyone fears-the exiled Alpha, Garth Morgan. "I have the Gamma Bloodline Scroll," I told the massive figure emerging from the shadows. "I don't want your gratitude," Garth growled, his eyes like storm clouds. "I'm not here for gratitude," I replied, staring him down. "I'm here to make a deal with the devil."
