Chapter 1

Wedding Venue
At the wedding, everything seemed perfect until my bride received a text message that her first love had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In a heartbeat, she decided to call off the wedding, leaving me standing alone in shock.
"Please," I implored, "can we at least finish the ceremony?"
She looked at me with a mix of frustration and sadness. "Jase, he's dying. What more do you need to understand?"
Her words cut deep, and eventually, I surrendered to her wishes. I threw myself into my work and rose to become a business tycoon. Years later, when the divorce papers landed on her doorstep, she was blindsided, overcome with panic and regret.

"Jase, how can you be so heartless? This is a matter of life and death! Isn't a person's life more important than getting married?"
Backstage at the wedding, Kathleen, dressed in her stunning bridal gown, glared at me with fury in her eyes.
Her gown was a masterpiece from a renowned designer, one that had cost me two years' salary.
The roses were impeccably fresh.
The cake, a majestic eighteen-layer black forest cake, was precisely what she had wanted.
