Chapter 1 The beginning

LUNA's POV

I woke up with a bright smile imprinted all over my face, I was happy of course I was. It is my first wedding anniversary with the best man. My husband, my Jordan.

There was a little note on the table;

"I had important work to do at the office, my love, but always remember I love you, and Happy wedding anniversary.

Love, Jordan."

As I read through I couldn't stop smiling and staring at the mirror in front of me.

But what was so important that he had to go to the office today of all days? I whispered to myself then I picked up my phone and called him, but there was no answer.

"I can take the party to his office then."

I said confidently to myself then I jumped into the shower, and happily turned on the water. I was in a hurry and was also happy to see my husband. Well, when you are married to a very successful, powerful, and rich man who owns one of the biggest hotels in Las Vegas then you will feel lucky every day.

Before stepping out of the house I took one last glance in the mirror, and I felt more confident and elegant in myself. Jordan's favorite color has always been red, so I wore a red dress, and black shoes, and held a black purse.

When I got to his office, I noticed the secretary was not at her table. I walked into Jordan's office only to find his secretary's hands wrapped around his waist. I stared in shock before screaming out his name.

"Jordan!"

They both quickly turned around and stared at him, but they didn't look shocked to see me. It almost felt like I was overreacting or it was an ordinary thing for me to see.

"Hey, Luna, why are you here? Why didn't you call me before coming? Nelly excuse us"

My husband questioned me like I interrupted something between him and his secretary.

The secretary left, and I just stared at Jordan with disgust.

"What do you mean by that question, Jordan, and what was that between you and that lady?"

"Luna, this isn't what it looks like," he stammered and staggered a bit. I held him because he looked like he was about to fall.

He sat me down and explained to me that his company was under some false allegations and he could be arrested for it. I sat down and tears rolled down my cheeks. Today was supposed to be a good day, but with what Jordan just said I couldn't help but shed tears heavily.

"This is not the time to cry, Luna. Someone needs to take the fall for the company. I am innocent, but if I get arrested, then no one would be able to prove my innocence"

I was not sure what he was trying to say, but I could see the pain written all over his face.

"What is the next step, Jordan? And when did all this start? Why didn't you tell me anything?"

"You do not know anything about business, Luna, so, I didn't want to stress you out"

I felt bad when he said that because he didn't let me work even when I had opportunities to. He took me out of the orphanage I grew up in and changed my life, so I have always loved him, and just went with whatever he said.

He stood up from the desk, walked over to the window, and exhaled heavily. He turned around and looked at me then he shut his eyes.

"Luna, can you take the fall for the company? You are my last hope, please, my love"

I was shocked he could ask me that, I stood up from the chair and walked close to him. I wiped off my tears with my hands and then held him.

"What? Are you telling me to take all the faults, and go to jail?"

"You will not go to jail, Luna, I will get you out before you know it. I promise you"

I was not fully convinced, so I turned around and gnawed on my fingernails out of anxiety.

"Jordan.." before I could say another word he pulled me in for a deep kiss, and that melted my heart.

"If you do not do this for me then we will end up losing everything. Our marriage included"

I shook my head when he said that. I didn't want to lose him.

"But.. Why? Jordan this is not easy"

"You said you owe your life to me, right? I have never asked you for anything, Luna. So, accept this, and prove how deep your love for me is. Or I might as well as get the divorce papers ready before I leave for the station, and you can start over from the orphanage again"

His eyes looked calm, but his words sounded more like threats, and I did not like that.

"Fine, I will do it, but promise me you will get me out of there"

"I swear. In less than 3 days you are out"

"Fine, I will just go home, and.."

Just as I was approaching the door, and before I could complete my sentence the door burst wide open and three police officers barged into Jordan's office. I looked at Jordan's face, but he avoided eye contact.

Before I could understand what was happening the officers moved close to me, brought out their badges, and shoved it to my face.

"Luna Brooks?" one of the officers said, with a pretty face, but thick voice "You are under arrest"

I wasn't sure how to react to that. I just kept staring at Jordan who didn't say a word. That was when I realized what was happening, he wasn't asking me to take the fall for the company, he was telling me to because he had already given my name to them.

"Mrs Luna, you need to come with us"

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!
