Chapter 1: A letter to dear Mom

Mercedes POV

Hi there, my name is Mercedes Martin. I just turned twenty two few days ago.I live with my mom and my two elder brothers, Caleb and Luca. You'd agree with me that every black home has that one problem child. in my family it's Luca, the second child.Caleb just finished college and the most responsible, well he is the first child so he needs to be. Being in the same college with Luca, and being with him almost all the time means I can't escape his influence."Mercedes get your black ass down here and leave my house. I've got places to be today" mom yelled from downstairs.Oops, no time for stories right now.I hurriedly put on my sneakers, packed my books into my backpack, picked my headphones and hoodie from the bed before dashing out of my room."Good morning ma" I kissed my mom on her cheek. I scanned the dinning table but it was clear, no food on it and Luca sat there drinking water."Where's breakfast?" I asked."Finished" Luca said finishing the water in the cup.I wore a confused look and turned to mom."Mom?" "Don't look at me, you were taking so long Luca got impatient" she was wiping the table with a towel, not even looking at me."Wha–why?" I was getting pissed and sad.I turned to Luca."Glutton!" I spat, my hands in a tight fist while Luca sat there smiling annoyingly."It's okay baby I'll give you extra money, now you two hurry to the car I'll be there shortly" I stormed out of the house, Luca followed behind nonchalantly.Mom's car came to an halt in front of the popular Priston's college. "Bye Luca, bye Mercedes. You two be good, no complaints" warned."Bye ma" I said but Luca didn't respond."Hey Luca" I called on our way in. He turned to me."Where were you yesterday? You wasn't in class" I adjusted my bag strap. He scoffed rubbing his brow. "Why? Did someone pay you to watch me?" He asked looking around."You went to the pirates right?" He smiled."Mind your business" he made to leave."I'll go with you today" He paused and turned to look at me."What?" He asked."I said I'm coming with. You'll go again today right?" I was bold.He walked slowly to me and placed his hand on my shoulder."No" he whispered, smiling in a cunning way."That's your business Luca. You can't stop me" I walked away wearing my headphones. The pirates are a group of street thugs. My mom warned Luca severally not to associate with them but he wouldn't listen, he's good friends with them.As I walked away, I could feel Luca's eyes on me. I knew he was trying to intimidate me. But I wasn't having it. I was determined to find out what he was up to with the pirates. What new problem he was getting involved in.I walked towards my department. The hallway was bustling with students, but I barely noticed them. I didn't really have anyone to talk to at school, and that was fine by me. I was used to keeping to myself.I opened my locker and grabbed my books for my first class. As I closed the locker door, I caught a glimpse of Luca's friends, Tyler and Lincoln, walking towards me.Tyler nodded in my direction."Hey merci."Lincoln smiled."What's up Mercedes?"I nodded back at them. "Not much.""Where is Luca?" Lincoln further asked."Uh..his department maybe.." I looked back and saw Luca walking to us."There he is" "Yo!" Lincoln went to Luca but Tyler stood there eyeing me curiously. "What's up? You look like you're in a mood" he said and I shrugged"Just dealing with presentation issue" Tyler chuckled "yeah, good luck with that. See you some other time" he jogged to join Luca and Lincoln.

The warm sunlight of late spring danced across the rolling hills of Willow Creek, casting a golden glow over the quaint town. The air was alive with the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers and the gentle hum of bees as they flitted from petal to petal. Amidst this serene backdrop, Emily Wilson stepped out of her family's grand estate, her bright blue eyes sparkling with excitement. Emily's raven haired beauty and graceful demeanor commanded attention, but her kind heart and compassionate nature had earned her the love and respect of the townspeople. At twenty years old, she was on the cusp of womanhood, with dreams of making a difference in the world beyond Willow Creek's borders. "Good morning, Emily!" called out Mrs. Jenkins, the Wilsons' loyal housekeeper, as she bustled about the garden. "Good morning, Mrs. Jenkins!" Emily replied, her voice melodious. "Isn't it lovely today?" As Emily strolled through the gardens, her thoughts turned to the upcoming town fair. She had spent weeks preparing her entry for the baking competition, perfecting her signature lemon lavender pie. The prospect of winning the coveted Golden Whisk award motivated her to create something extraordinary. Suddenly, a horse's thundering hooves echoed through the streets, followed by the sound of wheels scraping against the gravel driveway. Emily's curiosity piqued, she hurried toward the entrance. A sleek black carriage, adorned with elegant silver trim, came to a stop before the estate. The door swung open, and a tall, dark haired stranger stepped out. His piercing green eyes scanned the surroundings, locking onto Emily with an unmistakable spark of interest. "Welcome to Willow Creek, sir," Emily said, her cheeks flushing. The stranger's charming smile and chiseled features left her breathless. "James Parker, at your service," he introduced himself, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine. "I'm here on business, seeking investment opportunities in the area."

"You're a creepy bastard." His eyes smolder me and his answering grin is nothing short of beautiful. Deadly. "Yet you hunger for me. Tell me, this appetite of yours, does it always tend toward 'creepy bastards'?" **** Widower and ex-boss to the Mafia, Zefiro Della Rocca, has an unhealthy fixation on the woman nextdoor. It began as a coincidence, growing into mere curiosity, and soon, it was an itch he couldn't ignore, like a quick fix of crack for an addict. He didn't know her name, but he knew every inch of her skin, how it flushed when she climaxed, her favourite novel and that every night she contemplated suicide. He didn't want to care, despising his rapt fascination of the woman. She was in love with her abusive husband. She was married, bound by a contract to the Bratva's hitman. She was off-limits. But when Zefiro wanted something, it was with an intensity that bordered on madness. He obsessed, possessed, owned. There'd be bloodshed if he touched her, but the sight of blood always did fascinate him. * When Susanna flees from her husband, she stumbles right into the arms of her devilishly handsome neighbour with a brooding glare. He couldn't stand her, but she needed him, if she was ever going to escape her husband who now wanted her dead. Better the devil you know than the angel you don't. She should have recalled that before hopping into Zefiro's car and letting him whisk her away to Italy. Maybe then, she wouldn't have started an affair with him. He was the only man who touched her right, and the crazy man took no small pains in ensuring he would be the last.
