Madeleine's POV

"You're late again today?" Juliette yelled. "I'm sorry, I had lots of work at night, so I woke up a bit late," I replied.

Julliete gave me a heavy slap on my face. I stood there quietly. "You are so lazy and slow," she shouted. She kept yelling, but I just stood there.

Finally, she left the room. I held my sore face and went back to cleaning. In our world, getting one's wolf was a rite of passage, a sign of strength and power.

I haven't gotten my wolf, and that makes me a target for Juliette's cruelty. I was physically and emotionally tortured. My parents knew about Juliette's behavior but acted unconcerned.

I was the personal maid to Juliette at my parents house and also worked with other omegas. I finished cleaning Julliete's room and headed for the kitchen to prepare for the mating ceremony before I was summoned by Apha Ares and Luna Vittoria.

I was a bit scared. "What would I have done to be summoned?" I asked myself. I walked into the grand room, my heart racing. My parents sat on the couch, their faces stern.

I knew that whatever was about to happen was not going to be good. "Sit down, Madeleine," Alpha Ares commanded. I obeyed as my heart raced.

"Rumour has it that you are cursed, Madeleine," Luna Vittoria began. "You have been rejected by three potential mates. At this point, it seems no one wants you."

"But Alpha Duncan wants you as his third wife, solely because he needs an heir, and we need an ally." She said, her voice cold. My eyes dropped, shame washing over me.

"Alpha Duncan? That cruel man!" "Please," I said, my voice breaking. "This is not up for discussion; you better leave a good impression," Alpha Ares said.

I knew immediately I was a burden and disgrace to this family. Now I'm being forced to marry Alpha Duncan, who wants me only for his legacy. But I was a rejected wolf-less omega, so I had no choice.

"Alpha Duncan will be here in a week; take note. You can leave now," Alpha Ares commanded. I headed out, my heart heavy. And I wondered if it was their way of getting rid of me.

I was done with all my chores for the day, and with tears in my eyes, I went to my room to rest. It was evening already, and I heard happy voices and music. I knew it was the ceremony.

I was so scared of the thought of being married to that man. I felt like running away, but where? I sat outside watching people have fun while I cried. "Is this really how my life will end? With a cruel man?"

For the first time, I was irritated by the sound of people's laughter. I stood up and walked into my room, and just as I entered I caught a scent.

It was soothing and calm; it felt different, but at the same time, I could barely breathe. My heart pounded so hard. I knew this wasn't just a sign. I was excited because this meant I had finally found my mate.

I tried tracing the scent just because I felt uneasy, but suddenly I tripped and just when I thought I fell, I landed in Liam's arms. And immediately, I knew he was my mate.

"Oh no, moon goddess, this can't be happening!" I spoke quietly. Liam was the beta and chief advisor to my father, and he was a bit older. It's said that age is just a number, but I didn't see this coming.

We stared at each other for a moment, and I had this deep connection instantly. I forgot about my age and thought it was only a matter of the heart. Age doesn't matter.

Besides, I was desperate, and I didn't want to get married to that ruthless Alpha. "I feel it too. I have had my eyes on you for a very long time," he whispered.

My cheeks ached from smiling too much; I couldn't stop. The feeling was one of a kind. And this day was yet to be my best ever. "Can I hug you?" I asked nervously.

He agreed, and I hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go. I loved him already. "I need to attend to something urgently; I will be back." He said.

"Promise?" I asked. "Yes, I promise." He kissed my forehead and walked away. I was so excited that I sat by my cabin and waited. I waited for what felt like forever, and my worry grew.

"What if he didn't like me and was just playing a trick on me?" What if he went to tell my father about our encounter? My mind raced with doubts.

But my desire to find him won out over my fear. I gathered my courage and snuck into the mansion, the only place I knew I might find him. My heart raced as I searched for him, my legs feeling restless.

I snuck quietly, and I had the greatest shock of my life. It was Liam and Juliette; they were kissing. My whole body froze. "What's going on?!" I stuttered, but the words wouldn't come out.

"Liam, what is this?"

"I reject you, Madeleine; I'm in love with Juliette." Liam spoke with a cold voice. The pain hit me very hard. It felt like I was being choked; I couldn't talk.

"What are you waiting for? Get out and close the door behind you." Juliette screamed. My chest felt like it was exploding; the pain was too much. I couldn't endure it. I felt like I was dying.

I cried as I ran to Hood Wood's old council meeting hall. Everyone knew this place was off-limits. It was a restricted area, but I knew my way around. I went there hoping to hide from the laughter and the mockery of being rejected for the fourth time.

I hated being called cursed. Pushing the heavy door open, I heard voices. I panicked; this place was supposed to be my comfort zone. I moved closer and peeked to see who was there.

My breath caught in my throat. It was Luna Vittoria, my mother, and Alpha Raymond, her husband's best friend. "What could they be seriously talking about?"

Alpha Raymond had come to our pack for a business meeting with Alpha Ares to join forces to fight against the Howling Ridge pack, which has been creating war to take over other weak packs.

I was dumbfounded. "I just caught my mate kissing my sister, and now my mother?"

"What is happening?!" I stood there, watching. A part of me wanted to leave that place and act like I never saw anything, and another part of me was craving to hear what they were discussing.

"So, the plan is to get rid of Alpha Ares." How is it going?" Alpha Raymond asked in a hushed tone.

"Hold your horses, Raymond. I haven't started the big stuff yet. But I have been giving him medicine to make him weak." Luna Vittoria replied.

I was shocked by what I heard. I closed my mouth tight so I wouldn't let out any sound. Suddenly Alpha Raymond asked, "And my daughter Julliete?

"How is she?"

"Juliette wasn't Alpha Ares' daughter?!" What is going on? I moved backwards, desperate to leave that place before they saw me. Just as I rushed, I tripped and fell to the ground. The sound echoed through the silent hall.

My heart raced as I heard the sound of footsteps approaching me. "Who's there?" Without hesitation, I ran out of the hall through the hidden tunnel.

I could hear my heart pounding in my chest as I didn't stop running till I finally got to my room and locked the door. I couldn't get the image of Liam and Juliette out of my head.

Now Luna Vittoria and Alpha Raymond are trying to kill my father. I slowly sank myself on my bed, burying my face in my hands. I was scared, my whole body trembling.

Betrayal was all it looked like. Luna Vittoria has always acted like she was perfect; she felt she was always right. Ever since I was a little girl, Luna Vittoria and her daughters Juliette and Eloise have always been cruel to me.

They made my life miserable to the point where I thought of suicide because I felt I was never going to be accepted by this family, no matter what. I moved into the Hood Wood pack after my former pack lost the war and everyone was killed.

I was the only survivor. Alpha Ares took me in, feeling a strong connection he couldn't explain. He used to cherish me a lot. My wolf wasn't out yet, and I've been constantly rejected by all my friends, which made him feel useless to him.

"So this is how I'm going to end up as a third wife?" I said to myself. I cried to the extent that my eyes got swollen and then I drifted off to sleep.

Suddenly, I felt a strong, rough hand pull me from the comfort of my bed. I was shocked by what was happening. I tried to scream, but the hand covered my mouth tightly, stopping me from shouting.

I tried to fight back, but it was of no use. He hit me on the head, and everything was black.

After what felt like eternity my eyes fluttered open, my head aching badly. I was in a scary, dark room; everywhere was quiet, and I noticed I was tied up. My hands were tied behind my back, and my legs were tied too.

I had a cloth covering my mouth, so I couldn't make a noise. I was locked up in a creepy basement alone, and I was scared to death. I sat there for about thirty minutes.

My body ached; no one was coming in, nor did I hear anything. Just then the heavy door opened, and I pulled back in fear as I heard the sound of heels on the floor.

It got louder as the steps came closer. Two huge guards entered the room, and I felt my breath hitch.

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice shaking.
