Chapter 1 Prologue

"You told me it was over," she spoke. "Do you have feelings for this slut?"

"I love her. I want to be with her, not you," he replied. "There is nothing you can do to change that."

"I don't understand," she screamed, "She is nothing, a nobody. Have your fling like you always do, and be done with her. I am not moving out of the way for that, that woman."

"No, you don't understand," he declared. "You never meant anything to me. You were a business deal-a marriage of convenience. I have what I want from you. I fulfilled my obligation. Now I want a divorce."

She picked up the crystal vase and threw it in the direction of his head. He moved just in time to dodge it. It struck the fireplace brick and shattered into jagged shards.

"ARE YOU CRAZY?" He stared at her, bewildered.

"You're the one that has lost your mind," she said coyly. "I will take you for EVERYTHING you are worth. Let's see how long it lasts when your reputation is smeared all over the sidewalk."

"Are you threatening me?" He laughed.

"Call it what you want. I will destroy you," she responded.

"You seem to have forgotten two very important points," he snarled at her, "First of all, you signed an ironclad prenup agreement. Second, I have the photos, remember?"

"You wouldn't!" She yelled.

"Try me."

"You will regret this," she threatened. "You both will regret this."

"The only thing I regret is the fact that I married you in the first place," he replied. He turned and walked out the door, leaving her standing there.

As soon as the door closed, she reached for her phone. "Come on, pick up the phone," she said with disdain.

"Hello," a male voice answered.

"Evander, we need to meet," she advised.

"When?" Evander asked, "Same location as usual?"

"Tomorrow, 10 am. Regular location," she demanded. "I will pay 4 times the regular rate. This is a special request. It needs to be done quickly and discreetly."

"You can count on my team," Evander said.

"Good," She hung up the line.

The maid walked in. "Clean up this mess," she barked at the maid and sashayed out of the room.

NEXT DAY

"How long do we have to wait for this lady," the dark-haired man said to his partner.

"As long as it fucking takes," Evander replied, "She is paying us enough to retire."

"Really? She must want these people dead," the dark-haired man shook his head.

The room was so dark that he barely knew she had entered except for the sound of her high heels clicking their way across the floor. He shivered as a cold aura of power hit his body as she approached.

"You understand," she said in an elegant voice. "It needs to look like an accident."

"Yes, ma'am," Evander said, "my team is the best there is. No one will even question their deaths."

"For what I'm paying you," she declared, "it better be good. I want them gone. I want them to feel the pain they have given me for all these years. I want everyone that loves them to suffer. To live with pain for the rest of their lives. You have one week."

"Yes, ma'am."

Once again, her heels clicked along the floor, this time signaling her departure. The door snapped shut.

Evander shook his head, "That is one cold-hearted bitch."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
