Nicole...
The blaring sound went off and the pressure of my pillow against my ears did nothing to help. I groaned in protest.
The noise continued, though. I rolled onto my side to turn it off when it fell on the floor and brought an end to my once peaceful slumber.
I groaned as I picked it up and realized I was extremely late. "Shit, shit, shit" I cursed as I ran into the bathroom, struggling to remove my PJs at the same time.
I took a quick shower, then practically raced back to my room, when I heard a honk from a car outside, and I knew who exactly it was, damn.
There was barely enough time for me to be picky about outfits so I threw on whatever I could find. "Nicole Jade Jackson!" My friend Bella yelled as soon as I walked out of the house.
"I am so sorry for keeping you waiting. Don't scold me please," I begged, hoping that the puppy eyes I gave her would work.
"Not today girl, we are late! Why can't you just stick to time?" Bella scoffed as I threw myself beside her passenger seat.
"I am sorry Mom" I pouted and she nudged me playfully.
"What are your plans for the holiday?" Bella looked at me, her hazel eyes shining from the sunlight.
"Uhm... I have not thought about it yet," I lied casually. Lying was easy, it didn't make me look pitiable, it didn't make me the orphaned young adult who craved some sort of completeness.
It made everyone leave me alone after all. "You?" I asked instead.
"Oh, I was hoping you'd say those exact words., I had planned to be with my family. They also want you to come."
"You know I don't like to intrude..."
"Don't be silly Nicole. They know you well enough. Think about it, okay?" There was so much hope in her eyes as she stopped driving to look at me.
"Okay, okay" I quickly agreed. "Can we go now?" I asked impatiently before she started driving again.
"Let's go then," she giggled and pulled away from the curb. It didn't take us very long to get to school and while Bella looked for the right spot to park, I came down from the car.
"Another semester in this shit hole" I mumbled to myself.
Suddenly, a car drove past, and before I could get away, water splashed on the pavement where I stood. Looking over my shoulder, I found the culprit driving off, and whoever it was, they didn't stop.
"The asshole spilled water on me," I told Bella when she came back to me and just when she was about to say something, a limo drove in and I knew it was them, not them, more like him.
Killian, the sexiest man to ever walk the earth, exited the limo alongside his boys. His blue eyes were twinkling, his usual nonchalant smirk was present like a second skin.
His dirty blonde hair was perfectly tied in a man's bun and I wanted to run my hands through his scalp. The thought of it alone sent heat spreading through my face.
I could tell everyone was thinking the same thing, well everyone except Bella. She hissed so loudly that I was afraid they would hear.
"Stop gawking like an idiot Nicole, we have a class to attend." She grabbed my hand a little bit rougher than she intended.
It was at that moment that Killian walked past me. I could catch the smell of his woody cologne, he was so close that I could see the freckles scattered around his face and that little mole on his cheek.
The previous warmth returned to my cheeks and my breath stopped when our eyes met and he smirked at me.
He fucking smirked at me, Killian Hemsworth smirked at me! "Did you see that?" I squealed in a lower tone.
"See what? A bunch of misogynistic assholes? yes, I did." Bella answered.
"Not that, Killian smirked at me" I gushed, still feeling warm. "It's not his usual smirk Bels, it was as if he noticed me."
"Nicole, it probably was because of the dirt on your jeans dumbass and doesn't he walk around with that nonsense? Let's get you cleaned, it is all in your head." Bella snorted.
When we were done cleaning up my jeans, Bella left for class because she had majors different from mine. I returned to my locker to pick up some things, and I saw it.
It was a neatly folded card and as weird as you may think, I sniffed it and oh my God, the woody cologne, could it be? With shaky hands, I opened it and it contained only a few words "Meet me at the art hall during lunch, K."
I read it over and over again, I pinched myself to be sure it wasn't a dream as I hurried back into class to avoid detention. But I couldn't concentrate on anything each of my professors said, I just wanted it to be time for lunch.
My eyes kept looking at the clock that was moving in an agonizing slow manner. Finally, it was time for lunch and Florence Griffith Joyner had nothing on me with the way I ran out, ignoring my classmates as they muttered "Creep, freak," and every other word they could find.
I bumped into Bella and almost fell on the floor. "What the fuck, Nicole?" She held me up as I readjusted my glasses.
"I am sorry, I need to go."
