Chapter 1 Sorry madam, He is no more

Kiara POV

I was sitting in my room when there was a knock on the door. Mom came inside; she was fully dressed and had a bag in her hand as if she was going outside. She came and sat beside me on the bed.

" Kiara, I am going outside. Do you want to come with me? I can't wait for you to get ready. We will enjoy it," Mom said, placing her hand on my shoulder.

"No, Mom, I don't want to. You can go," I replied coldly, not feeling like going outside to meet her friend.

"Um, okay. I will not force you, baby, but have lunch on time," she replied before leaving the room.

I looked in her direction until she left.

"Great, Mom. I know where you must be going," I said to myself, wiping the tears that were continuously coming from my eyes.

"Be strong, Kiara," the words of my dad echoed in my ears.

[Flashback]

"I can't live with you like that. I need a divorce!" Mom shouted, and Dad replied, "Mimi, what are you saying? Try to understand me."

But it all went in vain. Mom did not want to understand him; she shouted back at him, "You can't force me to live with a loser like you. Leave me!"

"Mom, please don't say that. We both love you. Don't leave us," I pleaded.

"Kiara, don't speak between. It's not your matter!" Mom shouted at me and went to her room.

"Dad, what will happen? Will Mom leave us?" I asked, looking at him. I found him holding his heart tightly, struggling to stand straight.

I ran towards him, held him, and shouted, "Dad, are you okay?" I made him sit on the sofa, fetched a glass of water from the kitchen, and made him drink it. Then I ran towards Mom's room, knocked on the door, and said hurriedly, "Mom, please come. Dad's condition is not good. He is lying on the sofa."

"Okay, come with me," Mom said, and we went to the living room where Dad was lying on the sofa, helpless.

Mom tried to wake up Dad while I called the ambulance. The ambulance arrived, and we made Dad lie on the stretcher. The ambulance driver helped us get him inside, and we reached the hospital. The doctor took him to the ICU. After some time, the doctor came out from the ICU.

I ran towards the doctor and asked with teary eyes, "Doctor, what happened? Is my dad okay?"

"He had a heart attack. His condition is not good; he is unconscious. We are trying our best. The next 12 hours are very important for him. Pray for him," the doctor suggested before going to his room.

I looked at Mom, hoping to see her looking at me with pure shock. I sat on a nearby chair, frustrated, holding my head while tears continuously dropped from my eyes. Mom came towards me and sat on a chair beside me.

"Kiara, don't worry. He will be okay. Don't cry," she said with no emotion, she doesn't seem to be disheartened.

What can I expect from her?

"Mom, why did you hurt him? Look at his condition. It's because of you he had a heart attack. Mom, are you listening to me? He is in danger and you don't seem to care. He might be a loser to you but you should remember that he is your husband and he is my father." Tears rolled down my cheek as I spoke. I was so hurt by Mom's behavior, she acted as if we weren't talking about her husband here.

"Ma'am, this is a hospital. Please don't shout here," the nurse said to me as she passed by. I didn't know I was shouting when I spoke, I already lost control of myself.

I turned my face in another direction while Mom took a cell phone from her bag and went outside the hospital.

"Still, she doesn't care for him," I said while looking at her walking outside.

After some hours, I was sitting on the chair, leaning my head against the wall, with my eyes closed. Mom was sitting beside me.

"Who is Kiara?" the nurse asked me.

"I am Kiara" I replied to the nurse.

"Your dad woke up and he wants to see you. Come with me," the nurse said. I stood up from my chair and followed her to his room eagerly, I had been expecting him to wake up since.

After she opened the door, I went inside Dad's room.

"Kiara," Dad looked at me and called out my name, he sounded weak and his face was deprived of any color.

"Yes, Dad, I'm here," I said, walking towards his bed. I sat beside him and held his cold hand. "Dad, you'll be alright, don't worry," I said, holding his hand.

"Kiara, I don't know if I will be with you or not, but you have to promise me. You will take care of yourself, no matter if I am with you or not. And you will not leave your mom, ever. Promise me, Kiara," Dad said, tears visible in his eyes. He tried so much to hide it but I already saw it, my heart hurt so much.

"Dad, don't say that. We will go home. Don't say that," I tried to clean his tears but he wanted me to give answers to his words.

"Kiara, first promise me," he insisted.

"Okay, Dad, I promise I will take care of myself and won't leave Mom alone," I said with a light smile, wiping tears from Dad's cheek.

"My brave Kiara, good girl," he replied with a smile.

"You still care for her. What has she ever done for you, why Dad, why?" I asked again, I hated that Dad cared so much so much even though she didn't care much.

"Kiara, forget what happened. You have to care for her and be on her side. What she had done was maybe not only her fault," he replied again, he was trying to convince me but I was strong-headed.

"What do you mean by that, Dad?" I asked him again, I was curious to understand what he meant. He sounded as if he was the one at fault.

Dad groaned while holding his chest.

I got even more worried when I saw him holding his chest, "Dad, are you okay?"

"Kiara, my time has come. You take care of yourself and your mom," he replied slowly.

"Dad, you have to fight. You can't leave us like this," I said as he struggled to breathe, I was in a panic. Uncontrollable tears started rolling down my cheeks.

"Kiara, baby, don't cry. You have to be strong. You have to live happily after me. Don't cry," he said to me as I shook my head in disappointment.

"Dad, I can't lose you, Dad. You will be alright, I know, and then we will live together. Wait, I am calling the doctor," I said to him, trying to stand up.

After some time, the doctor came to check on Dad. His eyes were fully closed, and he was breathing with struggle. The line of Dad's heartbeat went straight, and his breath stopped.

"Doctor checked him for some time and turned towards me.

"He is no more," the doctor said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
