When Alexandra returned to her hometown in southern Italy, she never expected that her entire life will be turned upside down. First by an encounter with a rage inducing young man that was both familiar and unknown to her. Secondly, her grandfather, a notorious Mafia boss announced that she is going to be taking over the family buisness with the man he just arranged for her to marry. He however should have known better then to try and force the fiery rebel to do anything, but before taking the steps to protect herself from this arranged marriage, she should have done more research on the man she will make the contract with.
"We're almost there miss." The driver informed his passenger as the black Range Rover sped through the Italian country side.
"Thank you Peter, I can see that." She replied sarcastically, immediately embaressing the young guy in the stuffy suit that she was sure they made him wear all the time. She almost felt bad for him.
"Oh don't sweat too much, I was just teasing." The gorgeous brunette tried to lighten the mood since she figured the poor guy was stressed enough by the simple task of coming to get her from the airport. She winked down
Despite her travels all around the world and all the chaos that comes with being back in this town again. Alexandra could just not stay away from home after she finished her university studies. Sure, she could not just ignore a summons from her Papa or he'd have sent his men to get her from whatever country she had fled to and totally ruin her fun and make a scene in front of whatever friends she had made. That always came easy to her, making friends.
But it wasn't just that. She truly came alive in her town, it was the only place where everyone knew who she was and which family she belonged to, and what she's capable of. She would just walk the streets with her little brother when she was ten and people would be bending over backwards to appease the princess. Growing up with that kind of power, it was too entoxicating to stay away from for too long.
Ofcourse, it wasn't always like this. When her parents first got married, her father, even though heir apparent decided to abandon his place on the throne and her grandfather along with it and moved away to London. Papa thought he was being an insolent son, but she recognizes that her father was just trying to protect her mother and the family they wanted to create for themselves.
Despite her grandfather cutting him off over this, her father maintained his position to keep them away from this life, but she believed he was foolish to try. For someone who has grown up in the family, as she got older she realized her father's mistake, believing that you can just walk away from this life is a fool's errand.
That is because just a few years after they left and only a year after her younger brother was born, her father's old enemies had found their home in South London. Despite her father's best efforts to protect himself and her mother, they were both killed that day and if not for mere coincidence that she and her brother had been sent earlier to her aunt's house that day and that their identity was always kept secret from the people who could cause harm to them, they would have likely been killed that day as well. She was eight years old at that time, but she still remembers the day's events as if they just happened yesterday.
After her parents death, her grandfather came and took her and her brother and raised them back home in Italy, but when it was time for her to enter university, she decided to go back to London and even though her grandfather approved her having some semblence of freedom comparred to their life back home. This was a compromise they had reached after many negotiations, she would be allowed freedom, but she would have constant survellience on her. He reasoned that this was the same city where her father was attacked, he could not risk losing his new heir the same way and she accepted that he had a point.
Despite her and her brother's existence being kept out of people's knowledge, her grandfather always took his precautions regardless to ensure their safety, but this was all about to change and she knew this. Now that she has graduated, she's fully aware that her grandfather ordered her return so she can finally ascend and take over the business. It was definitely unprecedented that a woman is given control of the family but after years of competing for the position with her brother, her grandfather believed she was more qualified for the job.
Even though they could pass for twins because of how similar they looked, they both had their father's brown hair and their mother's blue eyes. Alexandra's little brother Alejandro was very different from her. He was far more emotional, with a temper that caused many issues that she had had to clean up so he doesn't fall more out of favour. Marco may have been a loving grandfather, but she had known since she was young that this could easily change if they are not careful. After all, she credited herself on her realism, so despite knowing that in his own way he does love them, she also came to terms with the fact that if either of them threatened his legacy, he'd dispose of them without a second thought and not matter how much she and her brother argued, she could not lose him.
Her brother of course did not accept this decision at first but their grandfather forbade any in fighting and he was forced to concede his position because despite him being a man, Alexandra was still the eldest so she had just as much right to be the leader. She promised he'd be her Consigliere and hold the most prestigious role in the family under her, they reached this argeement with the knowledge that this is the best way to go forward as a family, so as to not make them vulnerable to their enemies.
Even though she has been preparing for this moment her entire life, the fact that at the end of this car ride this is going to be her life both terrified and exhilarated her. She has craved this kind of power for as long as she can remember, to the point that she has come to believe that this desire is engrained in her DNA.
It's time she claims her destiny and her place at the table, not only is it her birthright and what she deserves, she has earned it. Her family's security knows she's not the spoiled princess archetype that's most associated with other women in her position, she's as tough as nails and when her grandfather finally retires, she'll become every bit of the leader he is. They both fear and respect her in equal measure and they are right to do so, because despite having a kind nature, Alexandra is known to be unforgiving if someone she trusts with a certain role makes a mistake.
"Miss." He said with caution snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked around her, shocked that she was so lost in her thoughts she hadn't even realized she had arrived.
She put her sunglasses on and mentally prepared herself for what was coming, unaware that in fact nothing could prepare her for what is to come.
