Chapter 1 Prologue

That being said, here are feelings that come with loving someone whilst they are far away: It can make you feel sad and alone, like a part of your being is gone. It's life with that one true person you love, joy and a twinge of sorrow at heart. It is a sensation somewhere between melancholy and joy - that sense of two emotions stirring inside your chest at once. The distance might make you even more longing for their presence, make a feeling of hollowness despite all the love. And the ache of missing them tugs at your heart softly, reminding you that there is a space between us.

The bittersweet blend results in feelings of warmth and chill that can feel like light and dark shades reflected back at your love.

In a timid manner, she declared, "Oh God! No princess, your lady is all yours. And...I have mine already," while displaying the photograph of Catalina that was now contained within her wallet.

When Dianna slaps Madeline's biceps, Madeline is filled with a sense of amusement. "You moron! You're girlfriends?"

"Yes, we are. She is my life," she admitted when asked about it.

"What? When? Then why are you acting like strangers at Bradly's house?"

Madeline disclosed to her in an open and honest manner all that had occurred in the past. Dianna was still unable to believe everything that had happened. However, she is relieved beyond measure that Patricia is mistaken because Madeline does not have feelings for Hilary.

"You should've told me about it earlier, Madz; we can make her visit here, and you two could stay at my place and then spend some time together. Or we could visit her to Lunaris and ask Oppa's help." Dianna offered to make Madeline's heart feel warm.

"Yeah, I should have, but I'm afraid we can't do the latter part; you know, her father strictly instructed me to finish the job first before I can have her. And I can wait, but I can't also deny that I miss her every day." Dianna felt sad; she thought that if Madeline wasn't put on a mission to protect her, then she could've been with Catalina now.

"I'm sorry, Madz, but because of me, you have to stay away from her," Madeline said with a grin.

However, I'd like to express my gratitude to you because, if I hadn't been sent to get you, Catalina and I would have been.

Dianna simply smiled at her and said, "Remaining in hiding and running away."

Madeline is overcome with emotion as she embraces Dianna, feeling grateful for the princess's generosity. "Don't worry, bud, I'll help you. We'll do the first plan." Madeline feels compelled to hug Dianna.

She retreated from the embrace and murmured, "Thank you, Lis; I owe you this one," as she thanked her.

"Remember, Dianna, nobody should know about you and your title. Have you told this about anyone?" Madeline inquired further.

Madeline was apprehensive, but Dianna reassured her that everything would be okay. "Patricia knows, because she caught me," Madeline said.

"We can't add more people to know about this, Lis, not even Hilary," Dianna accepts and agrees with her. "We can't even add Hilary."

An asterisk

Madeline reached out to the other knights who were observing Dianna's whereabouts and asked, "You think I can go home now, Madz?"

Madeline takes the keys to her car and says, "I think it's safe now; they were gone. But just to make sure, I'll bring you home," at which point Dianna nods her head.

While Dianna was waiting for Madeline to finish what she was doing inside her room, she by accident glanced at the clock that was sitting on top of the table. Dianna was unaware of the time at the time.

At twelve, she saw the arrows pointing in both directions, and she immediately realized that she was dead.

"Shit! I forgot about Hilary!"

It is important to note that

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
