PROLOGUE

Thump!

I hiss as my back hits the wall,Logan has me pined against it by the throat, his eyes darkening into a raging storm, swallowing their gold brown color.

"Answer me."

"Fu--ck...off." I strain when saying the words.

"Who the fuck did you let touch what's mine?" He nearly growls as he cups my most intimate part through my panties.

I glare at him.

"Fuck.You."

Instead of getting offended,he smirks.

"Wrong answer princess, but the pleasure is all mine."

Then he roughly lifts up my skirt, making the material bunch around my waist.

"W-what are you doing you bastard!" I hiss.

"Fucking the attitude out of you."

Then he slams his lips on mine, devouring me whole until I feel like I'll pass out due to lack of air.

CHAPTER ONE

MILLIE

Silence, Peace and Privacy. Those are the most important things to me. Amongst all my friends,i've always been the quiet one,the known to be shy girl, plain and reserved, who's always in the background and grabs zero attention because of her boring lifestyle. I don't mind all those things being said about me, people's opinions have never mattered to me so...whatever.

College life is addictive, people change when they go to college, even the most purest girls get tainted, sucked into the thick fog of life filled with alcohol, parties and sex. My friends Lia and Mia the twins, have never had problems with blending in, sometimes i wonder how i became friends with them,we are just freshmen in college but they seem to fit in like they've been here in like for-ever.

"Millie, are you even listening to me?"

"Huh?" I look up at Mia who's hand is hiked up on her hip.

The twins are gorgeous,Lia is slim with white smooth skin, blond hair and crystal blue eyes and Mia is on the curvy side, same eye color, natural blond hair but prefers dying it red. The two are identical to the T,minus the red hair, you wouldn't know who's who unless you get to know them extremely well. The only thing that would give them away is the slight body difference.

"See? I told you she's not here," Lia speaks while she files her perfect clean nails.

"I'm sorry,what were you saying?"

"I said there's a party happening tomorrow night,we should all go."

"I can't girls,i have to study."

"We all have to study Millie but we don't exaggerate like you do."

"Right..? Who studies like this in college?" Mia agrees.

"Me,i study like this in college."

"That doesn't mean you can't have fun Millie."

"We are going, like it or not,you can study today. We,can study today but tomorrow is night out night."

"Uh, Mia,there's no such thing as night out night," Lia points out.

"Well now it's a thing Lia,don't spoil the line, besides,it doesn't matter. All that does is we get to take miss pure and innocent here out with us."

I frown.

"Don't call me that."

"Yes,don't call her that."

"You call her virgin Mary Lia," Mia says with a bored expression.

"Okay! Whatever,i said it and i'll say it again, i will have sex at my own time, when it's the right time and that is when i get married."

"Arghhh!" They groan at the same time.

"Now, you said something about studying?" I smile up at them, they exchange looks and curse while they flop down on the sofa.

"Fine, let's get this over with," Lia says.

*The Next Morning*

"Millie,i'm proud of you,you did great on the last test."

"Thank you sir." I politely smile at the professor

"Logan," The professor says.

Heads start to turn.

"Where's Logan?"

"Not here," A student answers.

The professor takes off his spectacles, closes his eyes and pinches his nose bridge, then he sighs and puts them back on.

"Jaime?"

"Not here too."

"Alright,class dismissed."

He leaves and we all pack our books and walk out.

~Dorm~

Mia sighs and Lia moves her book further down her face to get a good look at her sister.

"You're doing it again Mia."

"Doing what?" She asks.

"That creepy thing of smiling to yourself and whispering."

"It's not creepy,it's love."

"Love?" Lia scoffs "Mia,you barely know the guy."

"I know enough."

"Yeah like? He's sexy, hot and famous?"

"He likes his coffee black,no sugar and takes it four times a day."

"Mia," Lia leans forward. "How do you know that? Have you been stalking him?"

"Not stalking sis,it's called interested, I,N,T,E-"

"Of course I know how to spell interested, but still, you know nothing personal about him,his family or background."

"I do know about his family and background," Mia frowns at Lia.

I ignore their bickering because i'm used to it already,it's kind of their own way of bonding i think. Weird but it makes sense somehow,by the way,i see nothing wrong with Mia falling in love,we have no right to judge anyway, what if this guy is a good g-

"Oh the fact that his family is mafia and he's a mafia prince?"

I choke on my saliva and cough uncontrollably, a hand pats my back and another hands me a glass of water. I take a sip and breathe in slowly.

"What...what did you just say?"

I look up at Lia with wide shocked eyes.

"About family?"

"No, about the guy Mia is in love with being-being a-a.."

"Oh! Yes, about him being a mafia prince?"

I gasp.

"Mia! A maf- a crime prince!?" I whisper yell.

"Mhmm," Lia hums.

"Lia,you don't need to be so forward about it,you're freaking Millie out,by the way, they are just rumors you know."

"Oh please, you and i both know they aren't just rumors," she pouts out her lips.

"Mia, you know i love you right?"

"I know where this is going." She folds her hands over her chest and rolls her eyes.

The twins are crazy and wild, but between the two,Mia is the craziest.

"You deserve love so so much but a mafia prince? Mm mm, you deserve better than a criminal and murderer."

"He's not a murderer you guys, whether the rumors are true or not,i still feel like he was meant for me,i like him and i'll accept him the way he is,good and bad."

"You know dad won't approve of such a guy right?"

"Oh,there it is, daddies perfect girl."

The room goes silent,I jump in to loosen the tension.

"Mia,this is not your last chance at love, you can still find someone el-"

"Okay, time out." She frowns. "I don't tell you guys who to associate with,i don't tell you who can break your virginity or you who to fuck every Friday."

Silence again. Lia opens and closes her mouth, not knowing what to say.

"Mia.." I say softly. "We just want you to be safe,we want to protect you."

"Well thanks very much,i'm a big girl,i can take care of myself."

Then she walks out of the room. I rub Lia's back and lean my head against hers.

"Don't worry, she'll come around."

"We are just concerned,we didn't mean to upset her,we just want to protect her right?"

"Yes,we did nothing wrong," I assure her.

* *Later* *

Mia has been avoiding us, It's been twenty two hrs since she last spoke to us,she's locked herself up in her dorm and hasn't let anyone in, including Taylor her roommate who is currently seated on my bed with a furious expression.

I look at Lia for help, she sighs and takes a seat next to Taylor trying to have a conversation. I leave the room and go to Mia's,as expected, the door is still locked from the inside.

"Mia?" I knock twice but receive silence in return.

"Mia come on, we're sorry okay? We didn't mean to upset you."

Silence.

"Mia come on," I knock again.

"Go away," She shouts back.

"No,I'm not going away, we're sorry and we miss you,it's not the same without you out here,so please come out. Pretty please?" I beg.

I hear footsteps and sigh.

"Promise you won't shame my feelings again? You won't talk bad about my potential future relationship."

"Okay fine,we won't talk about it but that doesn't mean we're okay with it, we'll let you decide though."

There's silence on the other side for a few minutes, then the doorknob turns and the door open.

"We miss you," I pout.

"Me too," she smiles.

Taylor peaks her head and sees the door open, she rushes out of my and Lia's room to hers and Mia's.

"Finally!" She squeezes her way in and curses in spanish.

I smile.

Taylor is a cool chick, but she's not in our group, she has her own friends too.

"I'm sorry for what i said earlier," Mia apologizes to both of us.

"It's okay Mia,it's in the past now," Lia smiles faintly.

"But no more using secrets as weapons against each other," I scold.

"Agreed," She says.

"Party tonight?" Lia rubs her palms together,i silently hope for a no from Mia,since she was mad but it doesn't happen.

"Let's do it."

Oh please! I groan.

Lia grabs my hand and pulls me to our room. It's going to be a long night.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I sat in the gray, airless room of the New York State Department of Corrections, my knuckles white as the Warden delivered the news. "Parole denied." My father, Howard Sterling, had forged new evidence of financial crimes to keep me behind bars. He walked into the room, smelling of expensive cologne, and tossed a black folder onto the steel table. It was a marriage contract for Lucas Kensington, a billionaire currently lying in a vegetative state in the ICU. "Sign it. You walk out today." I laughed at the idea of being sold to a "corpse" until Howard slid a grainy photo toward me. It showed a toddler with a crescent-moon birthmark—the son Howard told me had died in an incubator five years ago. He smiled and told me the boy's safety depended entirely on my cooperation. I was thrust into the Kensington estate, where the family treated me like a "drowned rat." They dressed me in mothball-scented rags and mocked my status, unaware that I was monitoring their every move. I watched the cousin, Julian, openly waiting for Lucas to die to inherit the empire, while the doctors prepared to sign the death certificate. I didn't understand why my father would lie about my son’s death for years, or what kind of monsters would use a child as a bargaining chip. The injustice of it burned in my chest as I realized I was just a pawn in a game of old money and blood. As the monitors began to flatline and the family started to celebrate their inheritance, I locked the door and reached into the hem of my dress. I pulled out the sharpened silver wires I’d fashioned in the prison workshop. They thought they bought a submissive convict, but they actually invited "The Saint"—the world’s most dangerous underground surgeon—into their home. "Wake up, Lucas. You owe me a life." I wasn't there to be a bride; I was there to wake the dead and burn their empire to the ground.
