The sweet chirping of the birds and the melodious sound of nature woke me up to behold the rising of the sun in New York City. I looked outside through my window, admiring the sweet view of the sun and inhaling the sweet smell of nature. I walked into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I went downstairs to check my father has woken up. "Happy birthday!!" To my surprise, my father arranged a birthday surprise for me. 18th December, I literally forgot that today was my birthday. This surprise was the least I expected. "Happy birthday, my beautiful daughter.
You are a great image of the Northern pack" my father boasted about me before my family. My brother Logan took the first step, gifting me with an apple laptop. "Thank you so much" I jumped up excitedly, holding the laptop as I hugged him passionately. Unknown to me, my parents already had the best gift to set my 18th year birthday into a grand start. Just as I was still overwhelmed by the gift from Logan, he gave me a red box neatly closed with a ribbon. "Open it" my mother, Beatrice, said, smiling at me. I opened the box and literally passed out into deep shock as I saw the gift. It was a car key and not just any car. It was a 2020 Mercedes Benz model. I became so dumbfounded, looking for words to express my appreciation. "I.....I...I am really stunned, I am so grateful to you both" finally expressing my utmost felt joy as I hugged them both. I rushed outside to go and have a look at the car and damn!!!! It was obviously worth it. We all celebrated, as my father threw a grand party in my name, inviting every member of the Northern pack. Both rich and poor all came to celebrate along with me, and he boasted of my potential before the whole pack. "Listen up everyone" he called upon the attention of everyone present at the party as he stood on a high platform holding a microphone. The whole hall was filled with silence as everyone paid keen attention to listen to what had to tell them. "You are welcome once again to the birthday celebration of my daughter, Tessa" he started. "You all are aware that she just turned 18 years old today, and so we would be expecting her soon as transform for the first time" he continued. I immediately realised that I was not feeling any weird sensation in my body or symptoms that my father would say were signs of shifting to your werewolf form for the first time. "What is bothering you darling" my mother asked as she walked to I was standing. She raised my chin up, making my eyes meet with hers. "I am scared that I won't shift to my wolf today" I lamented to her. She smiled as she placed her palm on my cheek. "Don't worry baby, you are a true descendant of the Northern Werewolf pack" she assured me. Her words made me courageous as I patiently waited for nightfall. We made merry, and I had my fun together with my father. I found it really hard to make friends, so I did not have any friends who flocked around me. Dusk had already started falling, and my father had great expectations that I was going to transform. "Hold on baby, the time is near" my father assured me as he walked me out into the field. "Dad, I want to ask you something?" I asked him curiously, willing to hear his opinion regarding something I've been pondering on. "Go on Tessa" he said as he turned to face me, giving me his full attention. I grew nervous as I wondered what his reaction would be if I were to spill what I had in mind. "What will... What will you do if I am unable to transform tonight?" At this moment, I grew very nervous, and I found it hard to stand firm before him. The last thing I wanted to do right now was to trigger the anger and rage that my father harnessed. He is very easy to anger, so I blindly waited for a big outburst of rage from him. "Relax honey, you're nervous. trust that you will transform" trying to avoid answering my question. I decided not to push further and succumb to his assurance. Dusk fully covered us, and I was expected to begin showing some signs, but I still had not begun to display anything. It was 12 p.m., and my father had already begun growing weary with Impatience. "Let's return home" he said as he started walking back home. Deep down in my heart, I became disappointed in myself that in myself for letting my father down. "Dad...Dad?" I called him trying to get his audience so we could talk. He rather ignored me and claimed the staircase furiously, making his way into his room. It seems I am a big failure, I said as I slowly dragged myself upstairs into my room. I found it hard to sleep as I lay on the bed, pondering on reasons that could make me a late shifter and what would happen to me if I was a late shifter. "She is a failure, of course, I told you" my mother said to my father as I over hear them arguing about me inside their bedroom. I sneaked out of my room and went to their door so that I could audibly hear the argument. "She is a late shifter and I guess you are aware you are the alpha, so you should know what you'll do to keep your image from being thrown into the mud" Mother kept on saying in an I distinct manner. "We need to allow her to have sometime, maybe it would happen another night" father said. "Though she is a disgrace, I want to give a little time". Tears began rolling down my cheek as I listened to the heart piercing words my parents used against me in their closet. The door pushed open, and Father walked out of the room. He looked at the ground to find me on the ground sobbing.
