Chantel POV
Walking sluggishly out of the Elite restaurant,I walked to the road and tried to catch a ride. I'm so tired and the worst part of it all is that Sonia, my best friend, isn't in town, she's out for business purposes. If she is around at least she would prepare dinner for me. As though the day was in my favor, time ran as fast as I prayed for.
It can be really frustrating for one person to have numerous part time jobs and still can't afford a proper meal. Even at a young age I already perceived how unfair life would be to me. The fact that other kids had their both parents and I'm left with one alone gave me that idea. The worst part of it all is that my mom doesn't even want me to ever talk about my father. As she said, I believed, my dad passed away when I was just a kid. That was the only information she gave me about him.
I guess she doesn't want to remember her painful past so I never mentioned that till she went into a comatose state.
“Hey Chantel.” Someone called out from behind and I turned to the direction of the voice.
“Is this you? It's been two years now since I last set my eyes on you. Come here my child.” Miss Peace my mom's supposed best friend said as she engulfed me in a hug.
How is she here all of a sudden? Out of the blues she's standing right infront of me. What happened when she was the only hope I had on earth? When my mom entered into a comatose state she disappeared, I searched the whole city for her but she was nowhere to be found.
“I came back here to see you. How is your mom Margret fairing?” She inquired as she broke from the hug.
“She's still fighting for her life and she looks as dejected and pale as everyone in the world left her.” I said with rage and Miss Peace lips fell ajar.
“I have been busy lately, trust me I had they both of you at the back of my mind.” She said then her phone beeped and she looked at the caller ID and her countenance changed immediately.
“Please take this, call me in two days time, there's something about your mom you must know.” She whispered while looking sideways as though someone invisible to me was following her, after saying those words she ran out.
I wasn't even given the time to think about her actions when my phone beeped and I brought it out from my pant pocket. “Hey birthday girl!”. Sonia screamed from the other line leaving a smile on my lips.
If not for her, I didn't even recall that today is meant to be special as it's my birthday but just like every other day it has already ended. '`How's work going over there?''I inquired from her.
“Don't ask me that, Today is your day babes, Don't tell me that because I ain't there you won't keep to what you said you would do in your twenty second birthday.” I smiled at that because frankly speaking that's impossible right now.
“Get drunk and have mind blowing sex!” We both exclaimed in unison and I walked to the nearby road bench and sat down.
“So get down on it immediately!” Sonia said with a high pitch of excitement.
