the toxic relationship and start anew. But now, as I lay unconscious in a strange motel room, surrounded by unknown men, I realised that my attempt at freedom had been short-lived. I was once agai

, but it was a welcome sound in the darkness. "Where were you taken from?" she asked, her words laced with a hint of desperation. I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Ruth's tone put me at ease. "I was at a motel," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. "I had just escaped from my husband...I think I was trying to start over." Ruth's grip on my arm tightened. "What's your name?" she asked, her voice filled with a sense of urgency. "I'm...Amelie," I replied, my mind racing with questions. Who was Ruth? How did she end up here? And what did she know about our situation? . "You're really pretty," she said, her tone laced with confusion. "I don't understand why you're in here with the rest of us." Her words made me realise that I wasn't alone, that there were others in the darkness with us. I strained my ears, trying to pick up any sounds that might indicate how many others were present. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I began to make out the shapes of several other girls, all of them huddled together in fear. Some of them were crying, while others were eerily silent. I felt a surge of anger and determination. Who were these people, and why had they brought us here? What did they want with us? Ruth's grip on my arm tightened, as if she sensed my tension. Ruth's voice dropped to a whisper. "We trespassed on the wrong territory. We didn't realize it was...their territory." I felt a chill run down my spine. "Whose territory?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Ruth's eyes darted around nervously. "The Cassano family. They're...not people to mess with." "What were you doing out there?" I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But Ruth's genuine curiosity put me at ease. "I was just trying to get away," I said vaguely. Ruth nodded sympathetically. "I know the feeling." Ruth's words dripped with despair, painting a grim picture of a life I couldn't bear to imagine. "The Cassano family controls this town, and they...collect people like us. I was taken too, and I've been here for so long. No one has...wanted me, so I'm still here." I frowned, unsure what she meant, but Ruth's eyes told a story of hopelessness. "What do you mean, no one has wanted you?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Ruth's expression turned bleak, her voice cracking. "Welcome to Cassano town, where people are trafficked like meat. You're sold to the highest bidder, and if no one wants you...you're stuck here. You're left to rot, a perpetual prisoner." My heart sank, the reality sinking in like a stone. I was trapped in a town controlled by human traffickers, where people were treated like commodities. The thought sent a chill down my spine. Just then, the vehicle we were in came to a stop, jolting us back to our grim reality. The door slid open, and a bulky man dressed in black stood before us, his glare sweeping over the group like a cold wind. My heart raced as he stepped aside, revealing a dimly lit warehouse that seemed to stretch on forever. The air inside was thick with the stench of despair. I trembled, fearing for my life, as Ruth's grip on my arm tightened. "Stay close," she whispered, her voice trembling.. Don't let them break you." I nodded, my eyes fixed on the man as we filed out of the vehicle. His gaze lingered on me, making my skin crawl. I knew I had to be brave if I wanted to make it out of this alive. As we stepped into the warehouse,The man's voice thundered through the warehouse, making me jump. "Is this all you could get?" he bellowed, his anger palpable. His subordinate, the bulky man who had escorted us out of the vehicle, bowed his head in submission. "I'm sorry, sir. We've been trying, but...it's been difficult." The other men in the room followed suit,
