I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." ''Shit! I'm late again!'' I exclaimed.

I pulled up to my hair in a high ponytail, then sprayed some light vanilla perfume all over my royal-blue velvet dress and paced myself outside. I'm going to be late to my boyfriend's sister's wedding shower.

This is the third time that I've been late to my boyfriend, Aidan's dates. And I can't help myself but I tend to procrastinate before going to the date. Aidan and I have been together for two and a half years.

We met in college and eventually started dating each other.

At first, the honeymoon phase was exciting. Not going to lie. It was pure and gentle and I knew that Aidan was the one for me.

But, after I got fired from an agency company due to the lack of attendance he became so vile. He never looks me in the eye at times and shakes his head in disappointment.

And sometimes I feel like he doesn't even love me.

''Shit, Shit, '' I said walking slowly on the stairs of the building and try to not make a huge appearance to the main courtyard. There, Aidan was surrounded by his family and friends laughing and drinking at the same time.

I then grabbed a small glass of wine and begin to sip before he gets rowdy on me.

''Catalina! You're here!'' said Amanda, Aidan's sister. She looks just like Aidan except for the eyes, her eyes are ocean-blue.

''Yeah, I made it!" I said nervously.

''You alright, you seem nervous.''

''Oh no, I just am a bit tired you know.''

''I feel you I always get one of those days----''

''--Catalina?!'' Aidan exclaimed from a mile away.

I gulped with sorrow as Amanda excuse her self to the other side of the venue. He paced to me with irritation on his face wondering why the hell I'm late.

''Where have you been?'' He said in a dark tone.

''I---I woke up late and---''

''—Catalina, you've been super late over the past weeks what's wrong with you?''

''Because I--I just haven't been okay with myself---''

''---Okay with yourself? it's that even an excuse?''

''----Can you please lower your voice...---'''

''--No! I'm not gonna lower my voice alright! You see, that's the problem with you. You can't be showing up late to events like this and expect me to be okay with it. Look you lost your job because you are too lazy and effortless-"

''--You're overreacting--''

''--How am I overreacting when you do this: over and over again.''

''-----I'm sorry it's just lately I've been depressed because of the job and I've been hopeless not knowing what to do---''

''--I can't do this--''

''--Do what?--'''

''--With you, I just can't do it anymore.''

''----You're seriously breaking up with me, this is absurd! I did nothing wrong, I know I continue to be late but you know I don't have a car, or don't have enough money to book a taxi---''

''----Catalina? Aidan? What's wrong?'' said Amanda.

''---Nothing Catalina was about to leave, she isn't feeling so well. Right?'' Aidan replied with a lie releasing a small evil smirk.

''Right, it was nice to see you, goodbye Amanda.'' I turned my body around and walked out to the venue. I walked from the venue all the way down to Melrose street and went inside the train station.

About fifteen minutes later, I came to my small apartment and slam the door behind me. I was pacing back and forth trying to cool myself off from what happened earlier. It was just so damn stupid!

Aidan is a dick for even breaking up with me for something that is unnecessary. He could've just gave me some options like: how about next time you call me? or let me help you out so you can get back on your feet. Never.
