When Tanya and Margo entered the restaurant, a man quickly rushed outside, the door's bells chiming behind him. As soon as they stepped inside, the air felt stuffy. The aroma of delicious food filled the space, and pleasant music stirred the souls of the numerous patrons.
The restaurant was well-decorated, its walls painted in beige tones. A beautifully lit bar counter stood in the center of the room. Few paid attention to the new arrivals, as most were engaged in lively conversations in small groups.
"Take off your jacket," Margo nudged Tanya and quickly removed her own coat, hanging it on a nearby rack. "Shall we head to the bar and take a look around?"
Tanya nodded silently, finally managing to shrug off her coat, while she admired the décor of the place. Large art-deco style lamps hung from the ceiling, and Margo had an urge to tug on one of them, as they caught her attention. The girls made their way to the bar. Settling onto the high stools, they continued to glance around.
In the far corner sat a young waitress, typing something on her smartphone with her long fingers. Her dark hair hung down, nearly obscuring the screen. Whether she could see anything through that curtain of hair remained a mystery.
"Good evening, ladies. Have you decided on your order?" A waiter had approached them silently and with incredible agility. His movements were so fluid and precise, it seemed as though he had been born wearing a waiter's uniform, destined for this job.
Tanya looked at Margo expectantly, hoping she would order the infamous "Sex on the Beach." But after eyeing the shelves stacked with countless bottles of alcohol, Margo shifted her gaze to the waiter. He looked young to her, perhaps too young. A tattoo of a dragon peeked out from under his crisp white shirt. His chestnut hair was slicked back, and his sharp cheekbones gave him a masculine, almost seductive look.
Finally tearing her eyes away from the handsome young man, Margo placed their order.
"Two teas, please," she said somewhat shyly. Even Tanya gave her a curious glance - it wasn't often you heard such a timid tone from the bold and confident Margo.
"Anything to go with your tea?" the waiter asked, flashing a smile full of perfect teeth.
The girls shook their heads in unison, and the waiter silently withdrew. As soon as he was a safe distance away, Tanya leaned in and, lowering her voice, asked:
"What do you think about that guy over at that table?" She nodded towards a man sitting alone by the window. "He's kind of cute. Imagine the fun we could have with him!"
Margo discreetly assessed the man. He looked to be in his forties, wearing a warm sweater, with jet-black hair and an intense gaze focused on his laptop. He seemed deeply absorbed in his work, his strong hands typing effortlessly on the keyboard.
"I found someone even better. Look at those guys over there," Margo pointed to a group of young men, seemingly in their thirties. "And there are two of them. Shall we team up?"
"I don't know... I feel a little out of place here. On the street, it's different. You walk along the cars, and boom, the client appears. But here..." Tanya sighed and wrinkled her nose. The bartender arrived just then with their tea, and of course, he couldn't resist making a comment.
"You ladies are quite the sight. Waiting for someone? Your boyfriends, perhaps?"
Tanya and Margo exchanged glances and burst out laughing. Indeed, they were waiting for men-but the kind that could take full advantage of them and pay handsomely for it.
"If you're free, my shift ends at eight," the bartender said casually. "My friend is coming by, maybe we could go for a walk or catch a movie? What do you say?"
Caught off guard, the girls didn't know how to respond.
The door's bells chimed again, signaling the entrance of a group of young men-most likely students, judging by their appearance. They entered loudly, engaged in a lively conversation. After they sat down at a table, the waitress reluctantly put down her phone and went over to take their order.
The bartender's voice brought the girls back to their unfinished conversation. They flinched slightly and turned their attention back to the young man standing before them.
"So, what's the verdict? Will you leave me your number? By the way, I'm Kirill," the bartender said, handing them a piece of paper and a pen with a broader smile. "And you are?"
"I'm Tanya," her friend responded cheerfully, taking the pen from Kirill's hand. "And this is Margo, our VIP." Tanya playfully nudged her friend, who then giggled, finally melting into a smile of her own.
Seeing their smiles, Kirill's confidence grew. And Tanya was already scribbling her phone number for him.
"Though I'm not sure if we'll be free..." Tanya murmured, only to be rudely interrupted by one of the students who had just arrived.
