CHAPTER ONE
The smell of rain soaked earth and the far away, steady chirping of crickets usually calm Luna Jones to sleep.
But tonight, a strange unease that kept her tumbling and turning underneath the mushy cottons. Her dreams of creativity of vibrant colors and fantastic landscape were now haunted by shadows, the whispering of unseen creatures and the horrifying blink of silver eyes in the darkness.
Luna got up, her heartbeat pounding fast.
She takes a quick look at the clock which is 3:30 AM. She felt a mysterious pull, a magnetic force pulling her towards the windows, towards the dark plain of Basswood forest that boarded off Havenwood.
The forest seems to wave at her, the shadows whisper some secrets she couldn't understand.
Luna found herself by the window side. She felt a strange touch of familiarity, a connection to the darkness that interested and horrified her.
A sudden pain pierced through her, followed by clear images( a pack of wolves running around the moonlight forest, their hair appearing silver. Luna breath heavily, holding her head, the images fading away immediately as the appeared.
The next morning, she (Luna) found herself at her coffee shop, "Havenwood coffee shop," comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee was her place of safety were she had peace of mind, escaping the strange unease that had resolved around her.
Luna saw a book in a book shelf at the library, written in silver letters "Lengeds of Basswood". Her curiosity, with a strange sense of importance, made her open the book. Each page was filled with ancient creatures, hidden pathways, and a powerful ancestry of guardians who shield the forest from darkness. Luna's heart beat heavily as she read about the Eldora pack, a group of guardians with the ability to shift into wolves and the legend of prophecied Luna, a woman is bound to cross the path between humans and the werewolf.
The stories felt familiar, as if she reading about her own self, a past she couldn't remember. She was anxious mixed with unquestionable excitement.
That evening, Luna found herself pushed towards the edge of Basswood forest. The air was fresh with the sweaty earth and the silence was broken by the rustling of leaves.
She went into the forest, following a visible path that wound it's way into the thick undergrowth. She felt as if she being watched, as if mysterious eyes were following her every move.
Suddenly, a figure appeared from the darkness, a man of stunning height, his eyes, a significant shade of silver, locked into hers, sending a signal down her spine.
"You shouldn't be here," he said, his voice deep and low, resounding through the silent forest. "This place is risky."
"I was drawn here," Luna stuttered, her voice barely speaking. "I don't know why."
He took a step closer, his presence cast an air of raw power. "Tired?" he repeated, with a clue of disbelief.
Before Luna could counter, a low snarl sound through the trees, followed by the sound of cracking shoots. The man's eye widened, his expression changed making it unrevealing.
"We need to go," he said, his voice burning.
He holds out for her, and his hand around her wrist, his touch, making her feel a jar of electricity through her veins.
"Wait," Luna voiced out, her mind stumbling.
"Who are you? What's happening?"
He didn't respond. Instead, he dragged her deeper into the forest. Luna staggered after him, her heart beat heavily in her chest.
He stopped, turning to face her, his appearance faded in the darkness.
