Jane Gill swallowed hard, trying to calm her tumultuous emotions.
Just then, her phone on the bed started vibrating.
"Hello? Jenna, what's up?" Jane asked.
Jenna Carter's voice was urgent, "Oh, don't ask questions now, just hurry over! Brayden is about to check into a hotel with some woman."
Jane's headache, already severe, felt like it was about to explode.
"Where is he? Wasn't he supposed to be at the class reunion?"
"Just come quickly! I'm at the hotel now. I'll send you the address."
"Beep..."
Jenna hung up. Jane rubbed her temples, trying to clear her mind, which was a whirlwind of emotions.
The aftermath of a vivid dream, combined with the unexpected drama of her boyfriend's infidelity, left her brain in a fog.
She quickly changed clothes and called a cab.
"Sir, please hurry."
The driver, sensing her urgency, said, "Hold on tight, lady. We'll get there in no time."
From her home to the hotel Jenna had texted, the driver managed to cut the travel time in half.
As soon as Jenna saw Jane, she grabbed her and rushed towards the hotel entrance, only to be stopped by the receptionist. The receptionist requested, "Hello, we require all guests to register with ID for security reasons."
Jenna's expression changed instantly, pleading with the receptionist, "Please, let us in. My boyfriend brought another woman here, and we're in a hurry to catch them red-handed."
The receptionist looked skeptical, glancing between Jenna and Jane, then apologized, "I'm sorry, but we can't allow entry without proper identification."
Jenna was about to argue further when Jane tugged at her. However, the next second, Jane suddenly broke free from Jenna's grip.
Jenna turned to see what Jane was looking at.
Brayden Douglas emerged from the elevator, hand in hand with a girl, looking every bit the happy couple.
Jane's previously chaotic mind suddenly cleared. She knew exactly what emotion she needed to handle this situation.
Calmly, she walked up to Brayden and slapped him across the face. The girl beside him, sensing something was wrong, looked at Brayden in shock.
Brayden stared at Jane, unable to believe she was there.
Jane remained composed, her face devoid of tears or the pain of betrayal.
When you were calm enough, even the deepest sadness and anger couldn't shake you.
Brayden, stunned by the slap, panicked.
He let go of the girl's hand and reached for Jane, but she evaded him.
"Jane, let's talk." Brayden said, his voice anything but calm.
Jane curled her lips into a slight smile, "No need. We're done."
She turned and left the hotel, leaving Brayden staring blankly as her figure grew distant and small.
Jenna followed from afar.
"Hey, Jenna, you should head home. No need to follow me." Jane called back, waving her hand.
Jenna, concerned, asked, "What about you? Are you okay?"
Jane forced a smile. "Oh, I'm all right. I'm just going to the supermarket to get some snacks and then head home."
Jenna still seemed worried.
"I'll text you when I get home." Jane reassured her.
"Alright." Jenna replied, waving before hailing a cab.
Jane rubbed her eyes, which felt dry and sore.
She detoured to the supermarket and bought several cans of fruity beer.
Sitting on a bench by the lake, she drank one can after another.
Jane felt herself getting drunk, as memories of her past with Brayden flooded back.
The scenes played out in her mind, one after another.
It was funny how people tended to reminisce, but the past was just that a collection of beautiful memories from a time gone by.
"Hey Jenna, are you home yet?"
"I'm fine, almost home myself."
"Okay, my phone's about to die, so I'll talk to you later."
"Bye."
After hanging up, Jane deleted all of Brayden's contact information.
She opened her photo album, hesitated for a moment, then deleted all their pictures together.
