On the way to the hospital, my husband Kody and I had a huge argument, which led to an unexpected accident. When I opened my eyes again, we went back to when we first met. In our previous life, we were married for ten years. Our marriage was more about mutual respect than passion. However, he was unwilling to have a child with me. It was only later that I discovered he could never let go of his high school sweetheart. After being reborn, I decided to let him go. We silently deleted each other's contact information, kept our distance, and chose different paths in life. Seven years later, he became a top financial strategist and proposed to his high school sweetheart, Daniela, at their high school reunion. Seeing me still alone, he couldn't help but make a snide comment. "Emeline, I know you can't let go of me in both lifetimes. After all, I'm quite the catch, but you don't have to wait around for me." I ignored him and took my daughter's hand. Kody's face went white, his eyes blazing with fury as he demanded, "Didn't you say you'd love me for life and only want our child?"

Chapter 1

My husband Kody and I had a huge argument on our way to the hospital, which led to an unexpected accident.

When I opened my eyes again, we were back to the time before we started dating.

In our previous life, we were married for ten years. While our relationship wasn't filled with passion, we treated each other with the utmost respect, like courteous guests.

However, he never wanted to have a child with me.

It was only later that I realized his heart had always been set on his first love.

After being reborn, I decided to let him go.

We quietly erased each other from our lives, kept our distance, and chose different paths.

Seven years later, he became a top financial strategist and proposed to his first love, Daniela, at a class reunion.

Seeing me still single, he couldn't help but mock me.

"Emeline, I know you couldn't let go of me across both lifetimes. After all, I'm quite the catch, but you don't have to hold onto me so tightly."

I didn't respond and simply took my daughter's hand.

Kody's face turned pale, and with eyes filled with anger, he questioned me.

"Didn't you say you'd love me for a lifetime and only want our child?"

...

Once again, I opened my eyes and found myself at a formal club gathering before I started dating Kody.

It was during this event that we first formed a subtle connection.

As I looked at the person across from me, who slowly raised his head to meet my gaze, I realized that we both had been reborn.

In our previous lives, Kody and I were married for ten years without children.

I struggled to maintain the marriage, and although he said he didn't like children, I bore all the family pressure alone because I loved him.

It was only later that I learned he never forgot his first love and that the person he wanted to start a family with was never me.

"Are you two already locking eyes? How's it going? When are you going to invite us to dinner together?"

The teasing voices of our classmates brought me back to reality.

"We're just good friends; don't misunderstand. I added Emeline on WeChat because I needed her help with something, " Kody quickly explained, looking both flustered and awkward. I found his reaction amusing.

"Come on, I remember the way you looked at Emeline before; your eyes were almost sparkling. Why deny it now?"

"Exactly, are you two hiding something from us?"

"That's not fair. You can't keep secrets from us."

I quietly watched the farce unfold. At that time, Kody's first love had just broken up with him and moved abroad.

The teasing continued, and Kody grew impatient.

"I could never see myself with Emeline. How could I possibly like her? Does she even measure up to me?"

His words left everyone in the club stunned.

No one expected him to say something like that, especially since Kody was known for being polite and good-natured.

Everyone turned their gaze to me, eager to see my reaction.

I glanced at them without saying a word and walked away.

Since Kody didn't want any ties with me, there was no need for me to cling to him, especially since I didn't need him in my life.

Our ten-year marriage had been like that, and I wouldn't try to hold on any longer.

Kody sent me a message.

[Since it's come to this, let's live our separate lives and not get entangled.]

We quietly erased each other from our lives and went our separate ways.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't heartbroken. After being with Kody for so many years, claiming I didn't love him would be false.

Back then, when we first got together, he was still shy and wouldn't dare look me in the eye during our dates.

I was the one who initiated our first hand-holding and our first kiss.

I thought he was just innocent and believed I had found an amazing boyfriend, so I married him without hesitation.

How did I eventually discover he hadn't forgotten his ex?

I found a cherished photo of Daniela in his study wallet-a meticulously framed photo of the two of them together.

On the back of the picture, he wrote a message: "The love of my life."

That's when I realized the happiness I thought I had was just a lie.

He probably thought that if it wasn't Daniela, it didn't matter who it was.

I had loved him for ten years, and he had deceived me all along.

After deleting his contact information, I even quit the club, not wanting to see him again.

During that time, we had no contact and never heard any news about each other from mutual friends.

After graduation, I chose to go abroad, and I stayed away for seven years.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
