For seven years, I thought I was their cherished princess. My father had adopted seven boys to be my guardians, my "brothers," and I was happily engaged to their leader, Julian, the man I'd loved my whole life. That illusion shattered when I overheard him confessing his true plan to Lily, the girl I had treated like a sister. "Once I marry her and secure the O'Hara estate, everything will be ours," he said, his voice cold. "She's just a means to an end." Their betrayal didn't stop there. Days later, they tried to kill me. In our family's ancient wine cellar, a place of history and pride, they sabotaged a rack holding a multi-ton oak barrel. Lily gave the order, and another of my guardians, Ryan, carried it out. The barrel was meant to crush me, to make my death look like a tragic accident. They hadn't just broken my heart; they tried to break my bones. I realized they were all in on it. The seven men sworn to protect me were a pack of wolves, and I was the lamb they were fattening for the slaughter, all for the sake of their manipulative queen, Lily. They thought I was a fragile doll they could easily discard. But my father once told me, "An O'Hara is never a victim. We are the storm." At my 21st birthday party, the night they tried to humiliate me in front of the world, I decided it was time to show them all what a storm really looks like.

Chapter 1

Scarlett POV:

For seven years, I thought I was their princess, the cherished heart of our strange, cobbled-together family. It took seven seconds to realize I was just their fool.

The realization didn't come like a slow dawn, but like a flash of lightning, stark and brutal, illuminating a landscape I never knew existed.

I was carrying a tray, the fine china clinking softly. On it was a slice of the lemon drizzle cake Julian loved and a steaming mug of Earl Grey tea, just the way he liked it, with a single sugar cube. It was a small, familiar ritual, one of the many ways I showed my love for him, the quiet center of my world.

Julian Vance. My father had called him the brightest of the seven boys he'd adopted, the one with a mind like a steel trap and a future that would eclipse them all. To me, he was just Julian. My Julian. The man I had loved with a fierce, unwavering devotion since I was fourteen.

The door to his study was slightly ajar. I heard voices from within, soft and intimate. Lily's voice, sweet as honey.

"But Julian, she's always following you around. It's suffocating."

A low chuckle. Julian's. "Patience, Lily. It's just for a little while longer."

My hand froze on the doorknob.

"Once I marry her and secure the O'Hara estate, everything will be ours," he continued, his voice devoid of any warmth. It was the voice he used when discussing business strategy, cold and calculating. "You know you're the only one I've ever wanted. She's just a means to an end."

The tray slipped from my numb fingers.

It crashed to the polished hardwood floor with a deafening shatter of porcelain and a splash of hot tea. The sound echoed in the sudden, dead silence from the room.

The door swung open. Julian stood there, his shirt partially unbuttoned, his hair slightly disheveled. Behind him, Lily was hastily pulling her dress straight, her cheeks flushed, her eyes wide with a predator's panic.

They hadn't just been talking.

Julian's gaze flickered from the mess on the floor to my face. There was no remorse in his eyes, no guilt. Only ice-cold annoyance.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

The question hung in the air, a monument to his betrayal. Not, "Are you okay?" Not, "Let me explain." Just a cold dismissal.

I looked at him, really looked at him, for the first time without the blinding filter of my love. I saw a stranger. A handsome, cruel stranger who had used my heart as a stepping stone.

I didn't say a word. I just turned and walked away, the sound of my own footsteps unnervingly loud in the silent, cavernous hall. The shards of the broken china crunched under my heel.

"Scarlett, wait," he called after me, his voice laced with irritation, not concern.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
