Cecily Warren had accepted an unusual private commission. The client had a special request: a portrait capturing only the back of her lover. Three days later, the painting she had sent out appeared in her living room. Chris Lambert, her fiancé, stood in front of the painting and was mesmerized by it. "Cecily, you're awake? Come and have a look. This is a gift from one of my students," he said. Cecily was stunned. She remembered what her client said to her clearly. "He and I have been in love for two years, but we can't go public because of his special identity. It is his birthday next Wednesday, and I want to surprise him." At the time, Cecily had thought it was a coincidence that her fan's boyfriend's birthday was the same day as Chris's. Now her heart was pounding heavily, and she told herself repeatedly that there must be some mistake.

She Lived An Happy Life after Breaking up with Her fiancé Chapter 1

Cecily Warren had accepted an unusual private commission.

The client had a special request: a portrait capturing only the back of her lover.

Three days later, the painting she had sent out appeared in her living room.

Chris Lambert, her fiancé, stood in front of the painting and was mesmerized by it. "Cecily, you're awake? Come and have a look. This is a gift from one of my students," he said.

Cecily was stunned.

She remembered what her client said to her clearly. "He and I have been in love for two years, but we can't go public because of his special identity. It is his birthday next Wednesday, and I want to surprise him."

At the time, Cecily had thought it was a coincidence that her fan's boyfriend's birthday was the same day as Chris's.

Now her heart was pounding heavily, and she told herself repeatedly that there must be some mistake.

...

Cecily tried to compose herself and asked with a smile, Who is so thoughtful?"

Chris turned his gaze to the painting again and said proudly, "A new graduate student named Emily Nash. She's quite talented and considerate."

Cecily's heart sank instantly.

It was indeed Emily Nash.

Her client's ID was Emily.

Could it be such a coincidence?

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Chris hurried to open the door.

A young woman with an innocent and fresh face stood outside. She was holding a man's coat. "Hello, Professor Lambert. I've cleaned your coat and brought it back for you," she said.

Chris quickly took the coat and said with concern, "Emily, thank you for that. How's the progress in the lab lately?"

Cecily rushed over to snatch the coat upon hearing Emily's name. "Isn't it a bit much to have your student doing your laundry?" she teased.

Chris awkwardly touched his nose, while Emily sweetly chimed in, "Professor Lambert lent it to me specially, as he was worried I might catch a cold. Don't worry. I cleaned it thoroughly."

Chris patted her head with a smile and said, "It doesn't matter whether it's clean or not, but I'll worry if you caught a cold."

It had rained a few days ago. It turned out that Chris was late not because the traffic was bad or he was too busy to remember his coat.

He had taken care of Emily with his coat.

Cecily was familiar with the scene.

Back in college, it was unexpectedly cold during the evening study session.

Chris had skipped an important seminar just to bring Cecily a coat.

Although his nose turned red from the cold, he hugged her and said, "I don't mind freezing, but it would break my heart if you catch a cold."

Cecily lowered her eyes and felt something stuck in her chest.

She pretended to say jokingly, "Your coat smelled like an ashtray. If Emily dislikes it, she might not tell you directly."

Chris frowned upon hearing Cecily's words. "Emily, do you dislike my coat?"

Emily shook her head quickly. "How could I? I cherish everything you give me. So, make sure to keep my things safe as well."

Chris smiled, and his eyes were filled with affection.

But the one he looked at was no longer Cecily.

Cecily kept a smile on her face, but her gaze turned icy.

She couldn't believe that Chris could betray her, although he had loved her so much.

They had been engaged since they were kids, and their relationship had lasted twenty years.

They would get married the next month.

Years ago, she had resolutely given up an offer from a top overseas art academy and chosen her career in the live-streaming industry with her best friend, although it was less promising in most people's eyes.

Her entire family opposed the decision.

They thought such a career in live streams was beneath her, who was a distinguished graduate from a prestigious art academy.

Only Chris sided with her firmly.

He never expressed any disapproval of her decision. Instead, he meticulously researched all the streaming equipment for her.

He personally designed the layout of the streaming studio and secretly purchased a villa overlooking the sea.

He set up the most professional streaming studio for her.

He had adjusted each light for her.

He helped her lay out each of the settings according to her taste.

He even stayed up late to choose the best sound cards and cameras merely because she had casually mentioned that she wanted a creative space with a sea view.

His devotion to her was well-known in their circle.

Everyone said Chris loved Cecily deeply and would never see any other woman in his eyes.

When he heard such comments, he would hold her in his arms tenderly. "Cecily, from the moment I first saw you, I decided you'd be the one I'd love forever."

Cecily shook off the negative thoughts in her mind and said softly, "Emily, we won't keep you for dinner today. It's Chris's birthday, and we are going to celebrate it."

Unexpectedly, Chris chimed in, "It's just a birthday. Emily, come along with us. The more, the merrier."

Cecily frowned slightly.

Chris was oblivious to her displeasure and made the decision by himself.

Cecily watched as Chris naturally opened the passenger door for Emily.

Cecily was heartbroken.

Chris had always been very clear about boundaries in social activities.

When a new female teacher in their department wanted to sit in the passenger seat, he had coldly refused her.

He said, "I'm sorry, this seat is reserved for my fiancée. She doesn't like others sitting there."

Whenever a female student showed any interest in him, he would promptly reject her, leaving no chance for any misunderstanding.

The photo of him and her was always pinned to the top of his social media.

On Teacher's Day, a student sent a bouquet of white roses to their home.

Cecily didn't take it seriously, but Chris immediately arranged for that student to be transferred to another advisor and refused to mentor her any longer.

He had always been aloof to others and never leaned toward anyone other than Cecily.

As soon as she frowned slightly, he would drive away any women around him.

But everything was different this time.

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

Marrying My Runaway Groom's Powerful Father

Marrying My Runaway Groom's Powerful Father

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
