PREGNANT FOR MY DAD'S RIVAL Chapter 1 The Betrayal

Mila's POV .....

Guests had just started arriving at the venue, and the hotel was buzzing with our company shareholders, partners, other business moguls from around the city, and even bank owners in celebration of my Dad's 50th birthday. One thing people in business never joke about is networking and good business relationships.

I welcomed most of the guests as my Dad had requested, but my mind kept swaying back to the events that happened earlier that day......

I had gone to pick up some jewelry I left at my boyfriend's place that morning before heading for the hotel where the event would take place.

Felix, my boyfriend, was my plus one for the night, but he said he was busy at work and wasn't going to be able to check in with me at the hotel that morning, but he promised not to miss the event.

I used the spare key Felix had given me for his apartment during our first anniversary to let myself in. I was about to open the bedroom door when my hand stopped midway to the door knob as I heard the sounds of skin slapping and the unmistakable moans of a woman calling my boyfriend's name reached my ears.

I was so shocked that tears began to pool in my eyes. I turned the doorknob and embraced myself for the most heartbreaking sight of my boyfriend f*cking someone from behind in his bedroom. I could not see the girl's face as his body frame covered hers.

I stormed off after slamming the door. I could hear his footsteps behind me with him calling out

"I can explain, babe, please wait". I heard him call from a distance as I had already picked up my pace and dashed into the car.

As I drove, I let my tears pour down my face. I felt betrayed and angry. I had to park at a spot because my vision had become so blurry that I couldn't even see the road properly.

I knew I couldn't be late for my Dad's birthday dinner in the evening, so I wiped my tears and told myself that Felix could wait.

I wasn't going to allow him to ruin this night for me, as I was determined to meet and talk to most of the shareholders at the company that night to find out what their stand was with me as the new CEO after my Dad's retirement. I also wanted to meet other business owners in the city as partnership was always very important.

When I arrived at the hotel, I checked in and had my bath, put on a little make-up. I really did not need to do much when it came to my face, as my facial features were already quite defined.

I put on a simple evening gown that had an open back that rested just above my waist. I had let my hair fall compared to the usual bun I always put it in.

That night was about me making an appearance, as many business moguls all around New York City were going to be in attendance. If I were to become the new CEO of my Dad's company, then networking would be a top priority.

"Miss Grayson! Miss Grayson!". A business associate I was having a conversation with called out, bringing my mind back to the present after she noticed I had zoned out during the conversation.

"Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom," I said after giving a curt nod. I needed to regain composure, so I didn't make a fool of myself tonight.

I just needed to make it to the evening, as most of the guests would have been tired of conversing by then, and I could allow my thoughts to roam free, but for now, I had to keep them in check.

I returned to the event and continued welcoming guests until I heard the voice of the one person I had been trying not to think of all evening.

" Mila, please, can we talk privately?" Felix said while placing his hand in the small of his back. It took every ounce of self-control in me not to turn and slap him.

But I knew better than to create a scene at an event as big as this.

We had stepped into an empty lobby to talk.

"What is it, Felix?". I started talking

"I just want to explain myself, Mila. What you saw this morning was a mistake". He continued

" You know I won't do anything to intentionally hurt you," Felix said as he moved to touch me. I quickly moved back, creating even more distance between us.

"A mistake! A mistake! Felix really?" I said back, not even realizing that my voice had increased. Felix's face looked surprised at my outburst.

"Felix, I can't deal with this right now. You know how important this event is to me. I don't want you messing this up for me either."

"Mila, can you just chill? You can't tell me that the whole time we have been together, you haven't slept with anyone else. These things happen in relationships, we just have to move past them." Felix said with a smirk on his face.

At that moment, I wondered how I would even date someone like him.

"Felix just do me a favor and get the f*ck out of my life. Never contact me or show up at my place or, in fact, anywhere around me." I pushed at his chest and moved past him to the door.

As I was about to reach for the door handle, I felt his hand on my waist. He held my waist with so much force and pressed my body against his.

"You don't think I will let you go just like that without one more taste." He said with a sinister laugh.

"Let me go, Felix! This is a public event and there are guests everywhere. You wouldn't want to try anything funny."

Rather than heading to what I said, he locked the door with his free hand and pressed me to the door as I struggled to break free from his hold. Just as he was about to kiss me, he was quickly yanked by someone from behind.

I raised my head and my eyes met a pair of icy blue eyes.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.
