I'm scared, but I convince myself that I'll be fine. I just have to get to the doctor. The next evening, I went to the clinic after work. My doctor is pleasant, wearing glasses and a soft-spoken tone. She interviews me and does some tests. I wait in the waiting room, my hands twisting together in my lap. When she calls me back, her face is serious but kind. "Lila," she says, "you're pregnant." My heart stops. Pregnant? How? I haven't been with anybody in-then I remember. Months ago, while on a business trip, Ethan and I spent one night together. We were drunk, and it just happened. He never mentioned it again, and I thought he had forgotten. I did not know that it could lead to this

Marked By The Alpha CEO Chapter 1 Lila's POV

My heart bangs like crazy as I float to floor forty-two. The slick doors gleam like glass, showing me-my dark hair's good, dress ironed, but hands shake. Tonight's the party, and Ethan Hart needs me for the big talk.

Most would cheer at this chance. I should cheer. But all that's found is nerves.

I've been here two years, seeing Ethan Hart four hundred thirty-two times. I counted from month one. He grabs stares without trying. He's tall, dark hair, green eyes that seem to watch all. Rooms hush when he walks in. Words matter when he speaks. Strangely, he looks glum. Like he has a big weight on him.

And he's not seen me, ever.

Well, not until yesterday, at least.

I leave the lift and head to my spot. The office hums with folks rushing, fixing, making sure all is set for night. Mia, my pal, sits close by. She's in a red dress that shouts movie star vibes.

"You're here now!" she cries, leaping to hug me fast. "I've waited all day for you. Did you read my texts? I said let's do nails before the party. See mine!" She shows her hands, nails shining gold.

I grin at her, while my belly twists a bit. "Those seem fine," I mention softly. "I just stayed busy with designs for Ethan."

Mia looked annoyed. "Lila, work, work. When's playtime?" Quietly, she gets closer. "Plus, dreamy guy tonight. Maybe he sees you finally."

"Mia," I murmur, cheeks heating up a bit. "He won't see me. I'm just a designer, that's it. He's the big CEO."

"So what?" Mia replies. "You're sharp and pretty and good. Why wouldn't he see you?"

I'm stuck, so I just got back to work. Though, my heart jumps thinking about seeing him once more.

Around lunch, my boss needs me in his space. Derek's his name, nice but a bit bland. He says Ethan wants my help with tonight's talk. I agree, nodding, but my hands get damp all of sudden. Derek wants me in Ethan's room way up high.

The lift takes ages getting up there now. Arriving, things feel very changed. Walls are smooth, lights dimmed a lot, and big views showing the city below. I stroll the hall, trying to chill myself. The glass shows me, a girl who is very scared.

The door to his room is wide open. He sits still, eyes glued to the screen. A dark suit, paired with a crisp white shirt but no tie. His sleeves are pushed up just enough. A tattoo hides there, a secret sign I had not seen before now.

A gentle tap. "Hello, Mr. Hart," I greeted him. "Derek thought you'd want my help with that slide show."

He lifts his face, and our eyes lock for a heartbeat. A strange flicker crosses his face. Eyes widen, as if I'm a ghost he's seeing for the first time. A lonely soul in existence.

The look vanishes fast. His face turns back to stone, all hard lines.

"Come on in," he says now. His voice is low, no warmth. "Time is short, so we must work."

I move inside, taking the seat right across from his big desk. He calls up the slides and tells me what to do. He talks fast, I scribble everything. His words are sharp, careful picks. No smiles. He barely glances at me. Each time I look up fast, he looks away quickly.

After one hour, my unease starts to slip away just a hair. I tell him what I want for the design, and he really listens closely. He asks neat questions. He nods slowly at my words. Maybe, just for now, I feel he thinks I'm smart.

Then a funny thing begins to happen here.

We both stared at the bright screen, standing so very close now. His arm almost touched my arm. Then fast, Ethan leaped up. He stood with speed, the chair rolling away back. His breath was harsh, like a race had just been run.

"I guess that's enough," he said, but his voice had changed now. It felt sharp, like hidden anger. "You should go now."

I felt lost. "Want to see colors now? I've got three cool-"

"I said just leave," he said once more. He didn't look at me then. He stared out the window, at the town below us.

I grabbed my things fast. My heart felt weak, so small in my chest. I thought he liked my thoughts. Now I felt foolish though. He wants me gone for sure.

At the door, I paused. I hoped to say something, but what? I stood there briefly, feeling pain hit me hard.

"Lila," he said softly. His voice was hushed, like only to himself.

I turned around slowly. "What do you need?"

He still stared out now. His hands were gripped, like tight angry balls. "Don't come back here. Work on the slides down there. Just send emails here."

My eyes felt so hot, like tears might appear. I nodded even though he couldn't see me, and walked to the elevator.

I don't know the hurt of him not wanting me near. I don't know why I marked the times I've seen him too. I don't know why I feel so sad when he says go now.

I just know that I must be wrong somehow.

The lift's mouth opens, so I go in now. I hug the wall of chilly steel, then sigh out loud. Tonight, at the big bash, I must stand by his side to share our plans with big wigs. I need to smile and play like all is well.

As the box falls to my level, my hand finds my gut. A small bird flaps there; I've tried not to feel it for weeks.

This thing could flip our world upside down.

I shut my eyes, thinking: please, keep my hush-hush safe from his ears.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
