Isla Calloway's marriage was never built on love, it was a carefully orchestrated alliance between two families, and she had accepted it with quiet strength. Despite Adrian, her husband, being cold and distant, Isla carried on with dignity, hoping someday she would be seen for more than just the woman chosen for him. But when Adrian hands her divorce papers, Isla realizes she can no longer cling to an illusion. She signs without protest, choosing peace over a love that was never hers to begin with, and walks away carrying a secret: she is pregnant with Adrian's child. Betrayed and abandoned, Isla sets out to build a new life on her own terms, determined to protect her baby from a world that never valued her. Unknown to her, Davis Calloway, Adrian's elder brother, has been quietly watching, his guilt for his brother's cruelty mixing with feelings he can no longer deny. When Davis discovers Isla's pregnancy, a truth even Adrian is unaware of , he vows to find her before it's too late. As Isla fights for her future, she must navigate betrayal, family expectations, and an unexpected connection she never saw coming. In a world where she was once powerless, Isla will choose her own destiny, and perhaps find the love she was once denied.

Chapter 1 WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, THROW THEM AT YOUR HUSBAND

Isla's POV

The rain poured heavily outside, tapping against the windows like impatient fingers drumming on glass. The cold air seeped into my skin, but it was nothing compared to the chill settling in my heart.

I sat at the dining table, staring at the untouched dinner before me. A candle burned in the center, casting flickering shadows on the walls. Two plates, two glasses, two sets of silverware-everything was perfectly arranged.

But there was only one person sitting here.

Me.

I clenched my hands into fists, pressing my nails into my palms. I had spent hours preparing this meal, foolishly thinking that tonight would be different. That maybe, just maybe, Adrian would remember what today was.

Our wedding anniversary.

Two years ago, I had vowed to love him in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow. But from the moment we got married, he had kept his distance. No warmth, no affection-only cold indifference. He treated me like a stranger in our own home.

And now, after all the waiting, all the silent prayers for him to look at me, to see me... he finally spoke the words that shattered everything.

"Let's get a divorce."

My breath caught in my throat. My fingers trembled as I looked up at him. He stood across from me, his face unreadable, his expression as calm as ever. As if he wasn't breaking my heart. As if our marriage had meant nothing at all.

I swallowed, my voice barely above a whisper. "Divorce?"

Adrian nodded, sliding a document across the table. "I've already prepared the papers. You just need to sign them."

I stared at the crisp white sheets, my vision blurring. My name was printed neatly next to his, binding us together in ink. And yet, with a single signature, everything would be erased.

Tears burned behind my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I lifted my gaze to him, searching for something-anything-that showed he cared.

But there was nothing.

His dark eyes were emotionless, his lips set in a firm line. The same distant, indifferent expression he had always worn.

I forced out a shaky breath. "Why now?"

"Isla, my Father made marry you. I never loved you," he said.

The words sliced through me like a dagger.

I had always known. Deep down, I had always known that Adrian never loved me. He never looked at me the way a husband should look at his wife. He never held my hand, never whispered sweet words, never smiled at me the way he smiled at others.

But to hear it from his own mouth...

It hurt.

More than I ever imagined it would.

Adrian had a presence that turned heads- confident, sharp, and effortlessly charming. He made problems seem small, decisions easy, and for a moment, he could make me feel like I was the only person in the world. I admired his fearlessness, his certainty. But now I see it- his confidence was arrogance, his charm a mask, and his strength? Just indifference in disguise.

I forced myself to nod, swallowing back the pain. "I understand."

Something flickered in his eyes. Something almost like guilt. But it was gone as quickly as it came.

"I'll try to make it up to you," he said, his voice lower than before.

Make it up to me? How? By giving me money? By offering me pity? By pretending that breaking my heart wasn't the worst thing he could ever do?

I wanted to scream. I wanted to throw the papers in his face, to demand why he ever married me if he never wanted me in the first place.

But instead, I just smiled. A hollow, empty smile.

"There's no need."

Adrian looked at me for a long moment, his eyes searching mine. Then his phone rang, breaking the heavy silence between us. He glanced at the screen, then stood up.

"I have to go."

Of course. He always had to go.

I watched as he grabbed his coat and walked toward the door without looking back. The moment it shut behind him, the walls around my heart crumbled.

Tears spilled down my cheeks.

Happy anniversary to me.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

"And I want him to see what he lost." ••••*••••*••••* Meadow Russell was supposed to get married to the love of her life in Vegas. Instead, she walked in on her twin sister riding her fiance. One drink at the bar turned to ten. One drunken mistake turned into reality. And one stranger's offer turned into a contract that she signed with shaking hands and a diamond ring. Alaric Ashford is the devil in a tailored Tom Ford suit. Billionaire CEO, brutal, possessive. A man born into an empire of blood and steel. He also suffers from a neurological condition-he can't feel. Not objects, not pain, not even human touch. Until Meadow touches him, and he feels everything. And now he owns her. On paper and in his bed. She wants him to ruin her. Take what no one else could have. He wants control, obedience... revenge. But what starts as a transaction slowly turns into something Meadow never saw coming. Obsession, secrets that were never meant to surface, and a pain from the past that threatens to break everything. Alaric doesn't share what's his. Not his company. Not his wife. And definitely not his vengeance.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
