Rejected by the Alpha, Desired by the King When Alpha Darius rejects Lia on the night of her first shift, branding her weak and unworthy, her world shatters. Cast out from the only home she's known, Lia flees into the wilderness-only to be found by the most dangerous creature in the realm: the Lycan King. Kael is ruthless, feared, and utterly uninterested in fragile wolves... until Lia shifts into something not seen in centuries. With a mysterious bloodline, untamed power, and a past drenched in betrayal, Lia is more than just a rejected she-wolf-she may be the only one who can stop a rising evil threatening to consume both humans and wolves alike. Now, caught between the Alpha who broke her and the King who would burn the world for her, Lia must decide: will she embrace the girl she was-or rise as the queen she was born to be?

Chapter 1 The rejection

The air was thick with anticipation as the moonlight spilled through the tall windows of the Silverfang Pack's great hall. Tonight was my eighteenth birthday-the night I would finally discover my mate.

My wolf, Lyra, paced inside me, anxious.

He's close, she whispered. I can feel him.

I adjusted the neckline of my dress, fingers trembling. The room was packed with pack members, all here to celebrate and witness the Moon Goddess's divine matchmaking. My heart pounded as my eyes swept across the crowd.

Then I smelled him-pine, smoke, and something darker. My breath caught.

Alpha Darius.

He stood near the head of the room, tall and commanding, his midnight-black hair tousled like he'd just stepped out of battle. His sharp jaw clenched when our eyes met.

My heart soared.

He's the one, Lyra howled in joy.

I took a shaky step forward, but Darius didn't move. The moment stretched-then he snarled.

"You?"

The room fell into stunned silence.

My lips parted. "Alpha Darius... the Moon Goddess chose us. We're mates."

He stepped toward me slowly, each word a dagger. "You think the Goddess would bind me to you? A weakling? An omega who can't even shift?"

Whispers erupted around us. I wanted to disappear.

"You don't even belong in this pack," he continued coldly. "You were a favor to your dead father. A burden."

My eyes burned. "You don't get to reject me just because I'm not like the others."

He smirked. "Watch me."

A strange, sharp pain tore through my chest as he growled the words every werewolf dreads:

> "I, Alpha Darius Blackthorn, reject you, Lia Valen, as my mate."

My knees nearly gave out.

Lyra whimpered inside me.

No... no, it wasn't supposed to be like this.

I opened my mouth to speak, to plead, to scream-but I couldn't breathe. Everyone was watching. No one moved to help.

I forced myself to stand straighter. If he wanted to humiliate me, he wouldn't get the satisfaction of seeing me break.

So I looked him in the eye and said, voice trembling but clear:

> "I, Lia Valen, accept your rejection."

The bond snapped. I felt it physically, like a part of my soul being torn in half.

Then I turned and walked out of the hall, tears streaking down my cheeks, my heart shattered.

And I didn't look back.

My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
