"Because I took the wrong medicine while having a fever, I stumbled into Gu Chen's room and fell into his arms. I was sent to Reform School by Gu Chen, and during the two years I spent there, I endured unspeakable torment. Two years later, Gu Chen brought me back. Whenever there was the slightest movement, I would instinctively kneel and beg for mercy. Gu Chen realized that something was wrong. When he discovered the countless wounds on my body, he broke down. Later, Gu Chen knelt in front of me and said: 'Xi Xi, give me another chance, okay?' I replied: 'Give you a chance, and then send you to hell.'"
On my eighteenth birthday, my father brought Gavin Warren home.
My father told me that Gavin's parents had died in a car accident.
When I met his cautious gaze, something seemed to strike my heart and caused ripples of emotions.
I knew that I had fallen for him at first sight.
Gavin worked hard. He seized every opportunity my father gave him. By the age of twenty-three, he had become the assistant to the CEO of the Warren Group, a position of significant power.
One time, I had a fever and had taken the wrong medication. I accidentally walked into his room.
I collapsed directly into his arms.
In my daze, the secret crush I had kept buried deep inside broke free.
My hand landed on his chest, and I whispered seductively, "Gavin, I love you."
Gavin was furious.
He gripped my wrist tightly. "You know I love another woman, but you still try to seduce me. I must take on the role of disciplining Mrs. Kyson Shaw's daughter for him."
The pain in my wrist snapped me back to reality instantly.
Before I could explain, Gavin dragged me out of the room and handed me over to the guards outside. "Miss Shaw lacks discipline in her behavior. Send her to the Reform School and tell Bryant to give her a thorough training."
I was forcibly taken to the Reform School Gavin mentioned.
Once inside, I realized I had to face a dozen instructors at once, especially Bryant Yates.
He immediately locked me in a dark room.
I suffered from claustrophobia and struggled to breathe.
I trembled with fear.
In that dark room, I endured merciless torment.
It wasn't until two years later that I was dragged out and into the sunlight again.
I passed out as I had been deprived of sunlight for two months.
"Wake her up quickly." I heard Bryant's voice, as cold and heartless as ever.
Cold water splashed over me, and I opened my eyes.
Bryant crouched in front of me and gripped my chin. "Remember, if you dare to speak nonsense in front of Mr. Warren, I'll make sure you regret it."
I was terrified and trembled violently.
After two years of indescribable torment, I collapsed to my knees in fear as soon as I saw the whip in Bryant's hand. "Mr. Yates, I know... I was wrong. Please don't beat me. I promise... I promise I won't speak nonsense. I'll... I'll do as you say."
Bryant nodded in satisfaction.
I shivered all over.
An hour later, I met Gavin, the man who had sent me to the Reform School two years ago.
He strode over to me and scrutinized me from head to toe with his dark eyes.
His eyebrows were slightly furrowed.
"It seems you haven't learned to behave. Didn't I tell you not to be picky on food? Are you blaming me for sending you there, as you have lost so much weight?"
I remembered Bryant's warning before he left. "Do not defy Mr. Warren. If you annoy him and get sent back here, I'll... double your punishment."
I knew the consequence if I didn't follow his words was the whip's harsh lash and the hands of male instructors groping me.
I said, "Mr. Warren, I haven't been picky. I... I eat well."
Gavin's brows knitted tightly. "Mr. Warren?"
I took a deep breath, fearing his slap might land on me. "Gavin."
Gavin seemed satisfied and opened the car door.
I pressed myself against the door, afraid to touch his expensive suit.
"Move closer," he said.
I shook my head. "Bryant said not to get too close to men, or... or bad luck will follow."
Gavin's lips pressed into a thin line.
In the next moment, he pulled me into his arms forcefully.
I was terrified and covered my head with my hands.
I recalled the first time I entered the Reform School and was beaten by Bryant's boots until my body was covered in sores after I accidentally fell into a male instructor's arms.
He said, "You've learned well enough, but I'm not like other men."
I dared not move, and my body was rigid with fear.
Only when Gavin's phone rang did he release me.
I quickly moved to the side and clasped my hands together in silent prayer.
Gavin finished his call soon, and his gaze returned to me again.
I knew he was assessing me. "You cut your hair last time because you heard I liked short-haired, capable women. You've cut it so short again now. Are you trying to perform the same trick?"
I immediately shook my head, and fear flickered in my eyes.
I couldn't forget the scene where Bryant asked two male instructors to pin me down and forcibly cut my hair. Their hands groped me as they held me down.
It was a nightmare of torment.
Gavin's hand suddenly gripped my shoulder, and he said coldly, "Avayah Shaw, I am grateful for your father's help, but it doesn't mean you can act out. Behave yourself, or I'll send you to the Reform School again."
The words "Reform School" were a lifelong nightmare for me.
Every time I heard them, I trembled uncontrollably, and my heart seemed to be stabbed repeatedly.
It was the same this time. "Please... don't send me there. I... I promise I'll do as you say."
Gavin seemed pleased with my response, as he gave a faint smile.
He took me to a nursing home, where I saw my father for the first time in two years.
He was emaciated, and his body was connected to tubes.
"He's in a deep coma. I officially took over the Shaw Group six months ago."
I collapsed into my father's arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Gavin looked clearly impatient. "I'll cover all his medical expenses. You're coming home with me."
I dared not defy him. Even if Gavin merely raised his hand, I feared it might land on me.
I followed him back to the Shaws' house.
Gavin led me to my room. "If you need anything, you can ask the butler. But..." Gavin stepped closer and continued, "Don't cause trouble just to get my attention."
I nodded instinctively and meekly responded, "I see. I promise... I'll stay quietly in my room."
After Gavin left, I went into the bathroom.
As the warm water enveloped me, tears streamed down my face.
It had been two years since I last took a warm shower.
Only when the servants urged me did I leave the bathroom and open the wardrobe.
It was filled with brand-new dresses, and I randomly picked one.
It was so revealing.
"Miss, please hurry. Mr. Warren is waiting for you to have dinner." The servant's voice prompted me not to delay.
I quickly put on the dress.
The revealing style made me uncomfortable.
I held the too-short skirt tightly and went to the dining room, where I saw Rosa Brooks sitting beside Gavin.
She was smiling sweetly.
Rosa was Gavin's first love, and he loved her deeply.
"Avayah, why are you wearing such revealing clothes?" Gavin looked up, and his expression changed drastically when he saw my clothes.
He strode over to me and said coldly, "Avayah, can't you have some dignity? You have stayed at the Reform School for two years. Did you only learn to seduce men?"
Tears welled up in my eyes.
