Chapter 1 FLASHBACK I

FLASHBACK I

Somewhere in Platoon villa at the Brown's mansion, one could see the fury Mrs brown sitting on the sofa in the study room, stomping her feet on the floor repeatedly.

"This is what you do to us after all we've done for you , you are nothing but a disgrace just like your mother" -she scoffed.

"What do we expect from an illegitimate child like him"- Freya said one could hear the disdain in her voice she has never liked her step brother ever since he came in.

"He's a loser"-Brian said observing his step brother who was by the corner of his father's study room with an evil smile.

"As expected from a mistress son,he-"

"All of you be quiet!! a man in his late fifties walked in angrily looking at Brian with disappointment.

"Father" he said like a child with a shattered heart.

"I do not want to hear a word from you" -Mr brown said and sat on his seat then he looked towards the quiet boy standing at the corner of the room.

"What is this that I hear?"-he asked which was then followed by a short silence. " I'm asking you a question Milton!!– What is this that I hear?- he shouted in anger "Do not keep me quiet when I speak to you"

"Are you really going to keep your Father quiet?, even if you act mute for a while behave like a real son of your father, he's been nothing but nice to you, we just want to know the reason why you did that at the banquet- Milton darling you should speak up – Mrs brown said, one would think she really cared about him.

"Father it's not what you think, I wouldn't do anything that inappropriate to Brian's fiance it's all a set up"- a deep but yet still voice was heard. Milton raised his head looking at his father with utmost sincerity wondering if he will be understood by anyone in this room, he knew he would be disappointed but there was this little brim of hope in him that made him think there would be an affection or love shown towards him

"Who set you up then? , My fiance?!! Urrghh you are really something" Brian said angrily rushing towards Milton with a punch to his face.

"Brian!!!" - his mother yelled

"Enough you two!!" Mr Brown said-the veins on his forehead were about to pop out because of anger one could notice the annoyance in him. He closed his eyes for a while then let out a long sign like one who was stopping a volcano from exploding then he spoke up.

" Milton you'll be going to the US to study, I think it's the best decision for you, you can spend as many years as you want just stop giving this family an headline" he said with an heavy heart,he has always loved this son of his,the world is vile and cruel he just wanted him to be safe. Saying this he walked out of the study room steadily going straight to his room.

Everyone started walking out of the study room rolling their eyes at Milton, Mrs brown walked up to him

"This is not the end of your suffering, this is only the begining I would advise you take this offer your father is giving you in a platter of gold now because I can't guarantee you a good life, I've never given you a reason to smile, have I? Mrs brown grinned evily.

"I'll be going to my room" Rollins who had not uttered any word since the gathering said walking out of the room. He has always been the quiet and observant one among Mrs brown children. he always acts unpredictable thus no one knows what he thinks he barely converse with his siblings.

"Must he ruin the atmosphere with his speech?,arrgh he annoys me with his attitude" Freya said clearly upset.

"Don't speak ill of your brother that way Freya" her mother said unhappily

"Okay , I'll be in my room upstairs" she said- she knew her mother shouldn't be toyed with, her temper was the last thing Freya wanted to see, her mom can be so scary when pissed off.

Mrs brown looked at Milton with a stern look and walked out leaving just him and Brian in the study room. Milton looked at his face through the mirror in the study, there was blood at the corner of his lips which was caused by Brian's pinch, sometimes he had always wanted to tear up but he has to hold it in he wouldn't let them see him weak but this time he was very angry, not angry because he was humiliated but because he couldn't do anything to improve his situation maybe it was really best for him to travel abroad at least there would be peace and less drama for him.

"Milton"Brian called out making him jolt out of his thought

"How does it feel to ruin that face of yours?- feels good right? I thought as much he said smiling wickedly, Miss Ava of Winstar group and co had always had eyes for you ever since we were little and would never even bat an eye towards me,"

"Yes she is my fiance but she doesn't love me, you know who she loves? it's you, you , always you"he said almost cursing

"Then how is it my fault? is it my fault for you not being outstanding enough,if you were outstanding she wouldn't have looked at me ,is that why you set us up? a deep, calm yet charming voice echoed in the room.

"Yeah, I spite her drink thinking she would come look for me as her fiance but no she went to my amiable brother and made that scene in front of everybody including the media, now guess who'll be popular on the headlines tomorrow, You!" he said sarcastically.

" Her reputation is still at stake considering she being your fiance ,Don't you think? and father wouldn't seat back and watch this piece of news affect his stock price so you failed" Milton said

"You know what I hate the most about you is your calmness, how can you be so calm in a situation like this?, you know what I hate you just get lost, you should better go abroad to study or I might strangle you to death" he yelled then stomped out of the room angrily

Milton signed suppressing his anger, he looked at his face once more in the mirror and left the study to his room where he revolves round his own world.

"I wish mom was here to comfort me" he thought as he walked towards his room.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

For four years, I traced the bullet scar on Chace’s chest, believing it was proof he would bleed to keep me safe. On our anniversary, he told me to wear white because "tonight changes everything." I walked into the gala thinking I was getting a ring. Instead, I stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, drowning in silk, watching him slide his mother's sapphire onto another woman's finger. Karyn Warren. The daughter of a rival family. When I begged him with my eyes to claim me, to save me from the public humiliation, he didn't flinch. He just leaned toward his Underboss, his voice amplified by the silence. "Karyn is for power. Ember is for pleasure. Don't confuse the assets." My heart didn't just break; it incinerated. He expected me to stay as his mistress, threatening to dig up my dead mother’s grave if I refused to play the obedient pet. He thought I was trapped. He thought I had nowhere to go because of my father’s massive gambling debts. He was wrong. With shaking hands, I pulled out my phone and texted the one name I was never supposed to use. Keith Mosley. The Don. The monster under Chace's bed. *I am invoking the Blood Oath. My father’s debt. I am ready to pay it.* His reply came three seconds later, buzzing against my palm like a warning. *The price is marriage. You belong to me. Yes or No?* I looked up at Chace, who was laughing with his new fiancée, thinking he owned me. I looked down and typed three letters. *Yes.*
