Clara stood in the middle of the glass room with her transparent clothes, holding back her embarrassment while trying to cover her body with both hands. There were cheers from outside the glass room and naughty looks from the hungry men. "1 million," "5 million," "7 million," Everyone placed a bet on Clara at a fairly low price, tears kept going to roll down Clara's rosy cheeks. Her body was almost shaky and she couldn't meet everyone's eyes, she was like a kitten amidst a hungry lion. "50 million," A man's voice that surprised her made their eyes meet. A most dangerous mafia chief raises his betting cards and shocks everyone. Steven looked at Clara with a grin, as if he was ready to eat Clara alive. His eyes were sharp like a wolf's, and it was him.

Chapter 1 The Glass Box

As days passed, Clara felt that something wasn't right with Ruby and her life, there was a feeling that she couldn't describe in words. The fear that every night always becomes a nightmare for her. That also seemed to be what Ruby felt, since they returned to Diana's house, there wasn't a single day when Ruby could sleep soundly, even Clara's presence couldn't calm her down.

Diana had asked Clara to ask Steven to come because she felt that maybe Ruby missed her father by her side, but Clara immediately refused, she felt that Steven had thrown her out and asked them never to return to the mansion, after all, that was what Clara had wanted for a long time.

Clara's presence in the mansion with Steven was only because she was tied to something, Ruby was the reason she was there, she could have reported everything to the police but was she able to put Steven in prison, since she saw how strong Steven was with all the wealth and power he had. Steven could easily eliminate someone and cover their mouth with money. That's how the crime never gets revealed.

But Clara's eyes were the witness, she saw how cruel Steven was, even though there was something inside Clara that made her unable to hate the man. After what Steven had done to her life.

"What's wrong Clara? Don't you want to tell me yet?" Diana approached her daughter who was sitting alone on the sofa, she looked tired because she kept looking after Ruby who wouldn't stop crying.

"I think my life is a curse, Mom," Clara said.

"Why do you talk like that?" Diana said.

"Maybe if I dream too high I won't fall so deep like this, I could never have imagined that my life would be this chaotic, impregnated by a foreign man who bought me, a cruel man who is used to dirtying his hands to gain power and now my life is never calm," Clara said.

"Isn't he doing anything good for you? Have you ever felt a little comfortable around him? Because I've seen this since the first time I met you, there is a bond that is invisible but very strong, you and he need each other, and aren't you curious why he suddenly asked you to leave? Why would he keep you there if, in the end, he would just throw you and Ruby away?" Diana said.

"Mom, why do you always defend him? Why do you always close your eyes if that man is the reason my life is the mess it is today," Clara said.

"Is Ruby the reason your life is falling apart?" Diana said making her daughter fall silent.

"Is Ruby's presence in your life also a curse? I'm angry, I hate that man, he destroyed my family, but will everything go back to how it was before by continuing to blame him? No Clara, open your heart, I know this is hard to go through, but this is what you have to accept, all the bad things that happen to you won't feel so painful if you can accept it, look at Ruby, she is a gift from what that man has done to you, he gave a little angel to treat the wound he gave you and he never took Ruby from you, even though he could have done it, accept what has happened, in fact with your attitude like this you will only feel devastated and blame anyone," Diana said.

"I'll see Ruby in the room, go to sleep Mom, it's getting late," Clara said, she kissed her mother's forehead before entering the room.

Seeing her little daughter sleeping in bed made Clara cry, she sat near her daughter and tried to think back to her mother's words.

Meanwhile, in another place, Steven, who couldn't sleep, tried to get out of bed when Jessi kept hugging him. He took his sleeping robe to cover his body and went out on the balcony.

Lighting the cigarette in his hand and smoking it, he missed his daughter, Ruby and he also missed Clara. But leaving them here will only create new problems.

"Steven?" Jessi's voice was heard calling him from inside, Steven turned his head and found Jessi sitting on the bed with a blanket she was using to cover her body.

"Why are you there? The wind was so cold, I couldn't sleep," Jessi said.

"I'm sorry," Steven said, he put out his cigarette and went inside, closed the balcony door and Jessi immediately approached him, letting the blanket fall to the floor, leaving her body exposed.

"What is it?" Jessi put her arms around Steven's neck.

"Nothing, I just can't sleep, go to sleep, I'll get a drink," Steven said.

"Hm, are you sure? Kiss me before leaving," Jessi said and closed her eyes ready to receive a kiss from the Alpha.

But Steven just pecked her lips and removed Jessi's hand from his neck before leaving his room. This made Jessi confused because she could feel Steven's coldness towards her again after the past few days they seemed very close.

When Steven was downstairs, he saw one of his trusted men, Bob, coming towards him.

"What is it?" Steven said.

"I think they need you, sir," Bob said.

"Give her that gift tomorrow," Steven said.

"Okay sir," Bob said and he immediately left the mansion and Steven returned to enjoying the can of beer in his hand.

Thinking about what had happened to his family made Steven chuckle, his parents had made him a bad person, and Steven felt that all this time he had been betrayed by his own family.

Even so, Steven determined with himself that he would not do the same thing to his daughter, as Clara asked him to do, Steven would try to get out of his life and start living as a new Steven with his little family, but that only existed in his imagination.

In reality, there were many problems he had to solve first, and all of these problems required his skills which were known to be quite cruel, getting his hands dirty one last time wouldn't change what was inside him.

Even doing something disgusting with Jessi is part of solving the problem for him.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.
