"We are getting a divorce." I stared blankly at the paper Ethan just handed to me. There was no way this was happening. "Get it signed as soon as possible." He muttered again, with so much easiness that made me think I've been married to myself all this years. Why does it seem like I was suffocating? I staggered a bit. "Is this what you want?" I managed to say to him and he nodded firmly, I searched his eyes for anything, any hint at all to why he was doing this. But there was nothing. I never believed Ethan could this to me. I've loved and dedicated my life to him for the past five years, even though he treated me like trash.

The Ex Wife: I want you back Chapter 1 Emily's POV

"We are getting a divorce."

I stared blankly at the paper Ethan just handed to me.

There was no way this was happening.

"Get it signed as soon as possible." He muttered again, with so much easiness that made me think I've been married to myself all this years.

Why does it seem like I was suffocating? I staggered abit.

"Is this what you want?" I managed to say to him and he nodded firmly,

I searched his eyes for anything, any hint at all to why he was doing this. But there was nothing.

I never believed Ethan could this to me. I've loved and dedicated my life to him for the past five years, even though he treated me like trash.

"Is it Mia?" I asked, my eyes getting a bit teary now.

"Yes." He replied sharply, and almost a smile could be sighted at his lips.

"I don't care about your relationship with her! like I've never cared, I've never interfered in your affairs with her! why then do you need to divorce me?!" I couldn't hold my tears anymore as it began strolling down freely.

"I will give you anything you want." He muttered.

"We could work this out, our marriage was out of love. We can make this work again. I love you Ethan and you know it." I muttered, my voice tearing apart now, my whole world was sinking,.

"Ethan? we can do this."

"A million dollars, I'll give you a million dollars,."

My heart sank at his response.

I could see his mind was already made up, nothing could be done now.

I sniffed in painfully and left his presence, with the papers in my hand getting squized by my palm as if that could help my marriage.

When I was completely out of sight, I squatted down, allowing my tears strolling down freely as I cried my eyes out. I had never imagined my marriage could reach this point. The thought of being separated from Ethan for the rest our lives twitched my chest I couldn't stop the tears.

When I was done, I stood up slowly, picking my belongings, the one that was mostly necessary.

I quickly removed the pyjamas and wore one of my gowns.

Then picked some of my shoes and packed it all in my box. When I was done I dragged my box along with me, trying hard to not shed more tears. For the past three years of my life after Mia came back, it has being from tears to fighting hard to be seen. It was time to let go now.

When I got to the living room, Mia stood, a sarcastic smirk playing at her lips which disappeared immediately she sighted my husband.

On a normal day, I could've let that slide, but what was the point now? Ethan already kicked me out, I could relieve some burden from my mind.

I let go of my bag's handle, and fiercely dashed towards her, I sent several slaps to her face.

Her expression was priceless, it brought joy to my heart, she never expected I'd do something like that. I've always tolerated her sh!t cos of Ethan, but today I didn't give a damn anymore.

She screamed in pain as I refused to let go of her hair.

Ethan swiftly grabbed her into his arms, while she cried. I didn't care, if he let go of her now, I could beat her up some more before I take my leave.

"We just love each other, why can't you just let us be together?" She sniffed into his chest and Ethan rubbed her back soothingly.

My eyes welled up, it was me Ethan used to hold like this. I remembered our moments and my heart sank the more.

Life was still okay, blooming with love with my Ethan until Mia came back from her studies abroad, his childhood friend whom he believed it was his first and true love to divorce me. Ethan never told me he had a lover that he was so obsessive with. He never for once told me he was using me to pass time till his lover returned.

I wiped my tears vigorously and grabbed my bag off the floor.

I could sense his stares between me and my suitcase.

"And where are you going?"

I scoffed. Maybe he suddenly lost his mind.

But I wasn't ready to correct that, I looked at him from his head down to his toe and I stomped out of his house.

"You can just stay! do you have to leave yet? Come back Lily! I haven't given you the order to leave yet!"

I scoffed painfully without giving him any glance, if we were going to divorce in few days, I might as well just leave now.

He followed me out but I didn't give him a glance as I kept pushing my suit case and walking fast.

I guess he wouldn't want the media to catch a picture of him, hence he went back. I couldn't here his voice anymore.

What else does he want? He wanted some space for him and his lover, he has it all now. What else does he really want?

I bit my lower lips in anger as I walked. The box was a bit heavy, but I must brace up.

When I was completely out of the estate. The burden in my heart had reduced. I could see life from another side again. Maybe I should've done this a long time ago. Freedom, yea from Ethan's hell hole. I couldn't have seen it earlier, but this was for the best.

I breathed in the cool breeze and finally stopped a taxi.

"AZ hotel." I muttered as I sprung into the car, feeling light headed now.

I jumped on the bed as soon as I get to my room, all this while I thought it was love, but I've realized everything now, I was only imprisoned, and now, I was freed.

A smile crept to my lips and a breath of relieve escaped my lungs.

I swiftly placed a call to Lexi,

"Hey Lily" She bellowed excitedly.

"Wait, where are you? and why does the place looks familiar?"

It was a video call, hence she could see everything.

I was more joyful when the receptionist told me these room was available, since it held a lot of my memories before I married Ethan, I and Lexi always hang out here till we both got entangled with our men, and now, mine was leaving me.

"Don't tell me you went having fun on your own!" She yelled and now I just had to say something before she rushed down here.

"I'm getting divorced Lexi."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
