A master at his game and answerable to none, Arthur couldn't believe his feelings when he found himself wanting more of Reina after just one passionate night with her. After doing everything he could to find her again, he resigned himself to fate when a month passed with no sign of Reina. Miraculously, she appeared in his office, searching for a job. Determined never to lose her again, he manipulated her position so she would work as his personal assistant. Suddenly, Reina is kidnapped and doesn't show up for days. Apart from the possibility of pregnancy and Arthur being a potential father, what else does her kidnapping reveal?

Chapter 1 Reina Discovers She is Pregnant

---

"The test results came back positive.

"Congratulations, Madam! You are six weeks pregnant."

"Oh no! Pregnant?," Reina thought.

"Doctor, please can we run another test? I just need to be sure."

"Yes madam, we can, if that's what you want. But this test is accurate. Why are you doubting it?"

"Doctor, I had sex just once, and we used a condom."

Doctor Ralph chuckled. "Madam, although very low, there are chances of getting pregnant even when you use a condom."

The doctor agreed to run another test for Reina but it still came out positive.

Reina was devastated.

She left the hospital and flagged down a cab to take her back home.

As soon as she got home, she ran to the toilet and emptied the contents of her stomach. After heaving, the tears came.

"How do I take care of a child at this stage of my life?

How do I summon up the courage to walk up to him and tell him I am pregnant for him when I clearly insisted he use a condom-and he did?

What if he rejects this baby?"

The thought of it sent shivers up her spine.

But why do good things come when we least expect it?

Having a baby is a good thing but right now?

I don't think I'm ready to take care of another human.

Hell, I haven't even sorted myself out.

Am I even mentally strong to do this?

And I cannot tell mum about it, she'd be so disappointed in me. She lamented breaking down in tears.

But getting rid of the baby is not an option, I would never do that.

No matter what happens she said as she placed a protective hand over her womb, I would raise my baby even if it means to do it all alone.

"I have to tell him though," she said out loud,

"He has a right to know about this pregnancy

Although not planned, we did this together."

If he rejects it, then I will resign myself to my fate.

But first, I need to get a job to survive.

With a baby on the way, I can't keep letting myself drown in self-pity.

I am not lazy. I am hardworking and smart, and I have an outstanding distinction in business management.

I will apply to Rylans Enterprises. After all this time, he should have gotten over his obsession with me and be kind enough to grant me a job offer in his company.

Reina resolved to go see Arthur, the man she had a one night with the next day.

Following her meeting with him, she would go in search of a job and with these two tasks to carry out in mind, she felt at peace and believed her situation would result in a positive outcome.

"I should probably tell Diane about all this.

At least it would be better than trying to sort it out alone.

I can't tell her about Arthur though, at least not yet.

Knowing Diane, she would force me to get married to him next Saturday, as if it were that easy," she scoffed.

"At least she would be excited at the thought of being a Godmother to my child," she said smiling to herself.

After a few minutes, she laid on her bed and finally drifted off to sleep.

************

"Woah, the sun is extremely hot! Even this weather is not on my side today," Reina sighed.

She walked into the building and was greeted by the receptionist.

"Hey, ma'am, how can I help you?"

"Thank you, I'm here to see the CEO, Arthur Koker."

"Okay, ma'am. Do you have an appointment with him?"

"Uhh, no, I don't. But if you could just please tell him Reina Pratt is here to see him, I'm sure he would grant me an audience."

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I can't do much for you if you don't have an appointment."

"Please, dear, you have to help me. It's really urgent, and I can't make this trip twice."

"That's why you should have made a reservation before coming."

"Okay, can you just put a call through to him? Tell him who I am, and if he refuses, then I'll leave. That's the least you can do for me, please?"

"Hold on."

She dialed a number.

"Hello Sir."

"I'm in the middle of a crucial meeting, Paige. Why are you distracting me?" Arthur roared over the phone.

"I'm sor... sorry to interrupt, sir, Paige stammered, but there's someone here to see you. Her name is Reina Pratt. She claims her case is urgent and that you'll really want to see her."

Silence.

Reina? Arthur thought. How long I have wished I could see her again. Everything I did to find her, and it just felt like she disappeared off the face of the earth.

And now she was in his building, requesting to see him?

"Wow, so miracles are indeed real," he said to himself.

"Mr. Arthur?" Paige called.

"Yes, Paige. I can't leave this meeting right now, tell her I'll see her immediately after it's over-if she can wait."

"Okay, sir," Paige said and hung up.

"Miss Reina, he has agreed to meet with you if you're willing to wait until he's done with his meeting. Mind you, it could take a long time before he's finished."

"Oh, I don't mind. I'll wait as long as possible."

"Okay, Miss Reina. Do make yourself comfortable in the lounge."

"Thank you, Paige."

Reina couldn't help but notice how rich Arthur's building looked.

Who in God's name did I have a one-night stand with? This looks surreal! For heaven's sake, these are the kinds of offices I see in movies.

She crossed her fingers and said a little prayer in her heart.

"I hope he accepts the baby. At least my child's upbringing won't be a problem financially."

---

"Ma'am, Mr. Arthur will see you now," Paige said, tapping Reina awake.

Oh my God, I can't believe I slept here!

"How long was I out for?" Reina asked.

"For about three hours, ma'am. I chose not to disturb you," Paige said.

"Damn these pregnancy hormones," Reina cursed under her breath.

"If you would walk with me, ma'am. Mr. Arthur is expecting you now."

Together, they walked down the lobby and took the elevator to Mr. Arthur's office.

Reina was fascinated by the rich decor of the building.

"Twenty-four stories," she exclaimed as they got to the top floor.

"Just how rich is he?" she asked herself.

They finally reached his office, and by this time, Reina was feeling very exhausted.

She hadn't eaten all day and had only managed some crackers to keep from throwing up. But that was hours ago, and now her stomach was growling in hunger.

She also doubted she could get anything down without throwing up again.

"I wish I could just sleep a bit more right now, I'd be just fine," she thought to herself.

Just then, Paige knocked on Mr. Arthur's door, and a clipped voice called from within, "Come in."

"Hello, sir. This is Reina Pratt. She has been waiting to see you since 12 p.m.," Paige said, ushering Reina in before turning back to her office.

*************

Reina stepped into the room, and she couldn't help but notice how gorgeous he looked.

Everything she had been trying to suppress for the past six weeks came rushing back to the surface.

She could feel the magnetic pull that always drew her to him.

She immediately broke eye contact.

"Focus, Reina. This isn't what you're here for," she reprimanded herself.

Just then, her eyes slid down to a framed photo on his desk.

A little boy and a beautiful blonde woman smiled in the picture, and standing tall beside them was-Gorgeous Mr. Arthur.

"What?!" Reina screamed in her head as the realisation of what she had just seen hit her like a truck.

She felt herself sway.

And then-she crumpled to the floor.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
