BLURB: She stopped in her tracks as she looked at the twinkling street lights that now seemed to laugh at her pain. Her husband of eight years, Phil, was walking away. The truth cut even deeper than the act of betrayal-he had never truly loved her. All he ever wanted was her money and her valuable inheritance. To make matters worse, her own cousin, who was also her best friend, had been part of the plan. Her whole world fell apart, and she felt as if she had been hit very hard.

Chapter 1 Let's end this.

It was like her brain went off as soon as he made that statement. She blinked rapidly as if it would help her understand what he was saying. It sure didn't.

What was she missing? She tapped her feet on the floor trying to calm her racing heart.

She bit her lip, trying not to let the tear drop. "This is...I'm not getting what it is you're saying Phil. I don't even understand it. I really don't!"

And there was the eye roll. He was annoyed? I irritated him now?

"Well, you're one daft woman so I get that you don't understand it. Although, it's plain and simple. What's there not to understand Bella...

"FREAKING EVERYTHING!!!" She yelled.

She ran her shaky hands over her face in a bid to calm her nerves. "I am so sorry." She said calmly now. "i was...I did not mean to shout at you." But he just stood there, no expression on his face. Like what she was saying meant nothing to him. "But please, help me understand what's happening."

"Okay! Now? You're really pissing the hell off me. What's not to understand. I bloody want a divorce." He said.

"And that's what I'm struggling to understand. How can you want a divorce? We've been together eight years and have a beautiful family. You're giving up on Andrea? You're turning your back on us?" Hard as she tried to stay calm, her voice still cracked.

"All that doesn't really matter." He said as he made his way to the couch"

"They don't?"

"Yeah! I'm sick of it all."

"YOU CANNOT BE SICK OF THIS! HELL NO, YOU CAN'T! Not after all my sacrifices? Not after all my efforts. I left my home, my family all for you...

"I don't remember ever asking you to do that." He said curtly.

She blinked repeatedly. Did she just hear him say that? It felt as if she had been punched hard in the gut. The way he just sat there so indifferent made her anger doubled.

"Look Bella, let's not drag this. My mind is already made up." He said again.

A wave of desperation wash over her. "No, it can't be that simple. There has to be a reason. Something I can fix." Her words trailed off, pleading with him to reconsider.

But Phil's expression remained resolute, leaving her with a sense of hopelessness and despair.

"Didn't you think of how this would affect our little girl? Did you even think of her at all?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"People get divorced all the time. She'll live. Just don't bug me with this anymore."

She shook her head. There has to be something she could do. She wasn't just going to accept it and leave. "Okay. I'm sorry for....

"Jesus Bella! What's wrong with you? What in the world are you apologising for?" He asked, rolling his eyes again.

"For whatever it is I must have done wrong. Or maybe I wasn't good enough? I wasn't working hard enough. I promise to do better....

"Just stop it please. There's no going back. I'm tired. Tired of it all. Sick of this marriage, sick of you . Let's just end it."

"No! No! No!" She said, shaking her head vigorously, letting the tears pour out. " We had plans. Don't you remember? We were going to....

He waved his hand dismissively, cutting me off. "We're done. Those things don't matter anymore."

"But ...

She was Interrupted by the buzzing of his phone. He looked at the screen and she could swear she saw him smile a little, just before his expression went blank. All he said was. "I'm on it. I'll call you back once it's over."

Then it all slowly started to come together. It was because of her. He was ending things with her because of another woman.

She'd known for a while now that Phil had been cheating on her but she loved him too much to leave. And never in her life did she think it would get to the point where he'd choose her over their eight years of being together.

"Is it because of her? You're leaving me because of her, right?"

He looked away from her, not because of guilt but probably because he didn't want to admit it. "You just want to make things harder than they should be."

"Harder than it-?"a bitter laugh escaped her throat. "You're destroying our life, our family, everything we've built together and you're talking about making it harder? Unbelievable!" She exclaimed.

He didn't say a word. His silence confirmed her suspicions. She felt another wave of rage wash over her.

"Who is she?" She demanded, her voice low and menacing. "WHO THE HELL IS SHE?" She Screamed.

"Oh my God! Bella! Can you not shout? We have neighbours who are asleep right now." He said, looking at his phone.

The neighbours? That's what he's worried about? He's causing his wife pain and all he can think about are the freaking neighbours?

She let out a shaky breath. "Tell me who she is " she said slowly this time.

"I don't see how that is any of your goddamn business Bella. You're being annoying."

"You don't see how...you are leaving me for a whore....

"I will not have you speak ill of her." He said defensively.

"Oh wow! We're defending her now? Tell me who she is Phil."

"When the time is right, you'll find out."

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving her shattered and reeling.

She fell limp into the couch. Her body shook as she cried. She thought about Andrea and how it would make her feel. She'd be devastated. How was she going to comfort her when she too needs comforting.

Just then, she heard the door open and her eyes snapped. He was back. This was just a prank. She wiped her eyes and looked at him hopefully but the next words broke her completely.

"The papers are in the study. I'm going out and when I return, you had better already signed them."

If she had been told that one day, the husband she so loved and cherished would leave her for another woman, she would not have believed yet here she was, a shattered and broken woman. Where was she going to start from?
