"Stay away from my brother, Brittany. He is a player and wouldn't want to see you hurt by him." Jessica Carter's warning should have been enough, but one reckless kiss at a frat party changed everything. Now, Brittany finds herself caught between Jake, the bad boy with a reputation for breaking hearts, and Austin, the campus golden boy whose charm is facade.

Chapter 1 Follow Rules

(Brittany) POV

I stood in front of the mirror in my college dorm as I gazed at my reflection. My best friend, Jessica Carter, had helped me pick out this outfit for tonight's party. She'd told me that we were going to be 'red hot' and if anyone tried to get between us then they would be 'shocked'.

Well, that was certainly true. I felt so naughty standing there in such little clothing. The green dress hugged every curve on my body and just about covered what needed covering, but it wasn't long enough to cover up anything else.

I tugged at the hemline of my too-short dress. "But do I really have to wear this?"

Jessica had been trying to convince me all week that I should wear this outfit, but I didn't know why she wanted me to look like a slut. I mean, I'm not saying I don't want to show off my new curves or even dress sexier than usual...but this seems a bit much.

" Brittany, you're twenty years old! You need to stop being so shy and start letting go," she said, pushing her finger through the slit in my dress. "You haven't even kissed any guys yet, have you?"

I shook my head. "No, I've never really met anyone worth kissing."

"Well, tonight might be your chance. It's your first college party and maybe the guys will think you're hot. Just remember to act confident and sexy-and watch out for those horny frat boys. They can be a little aggressive sometimes!"

I groaned as I pulled on my hair. I wasn't going to lie, Jessica had done a good job in making look absolutely stunning this night.

From the well laid makeup, to the perfectly matched lip gloss, to my hair which had been styled into a ponytail with cute loose curls hanging by the edges. Everything looked great. But still, I couldn't help but feel nervous.

"I hope I don't embarrass myself tonight."

The wall flower in me started to take over again.

I always thought of myself as one of those quiet girls who liked to keep to herself and would rather listen to everyone else talk.

That's why I became friends with Jessica because she was exactly the opposite. She loved to be the center of attention and she always knew how to put on a show. With her blonde hair flowing down to just below her shoulders and blue sparkling eyes, people always found themselves attracted to her.

I had known Jessica since freshman year of college. It was as if she illuminated any room she walked in with her infectious laughter and contagious smile. And boy did she love to party!

"Come on Brittany," she said grabbing my arm. "We are going to be late!"

"I thought you said we were supposed to be late! Isn't that your number one hot girl rule?" I asked.

Jessica giggled. "Yes, but when did you start caring about my rules. I thought you said they were lame."

She stuck out her tongue which made me laugh. I really liked Jessica. Knowing her was one of the best thing that happened to me in college.

I took one last look at myself before turning towards Jessica who was waiting by the door for me. Her black mini-skirt and tight fitting top showed off her curves very well. She dragged my arm and led me out the door, locking it behind us.

The cool fall breeze brushed against our skin as we walked across campus to the local fraternity house where the party was hosted.

"Are you sure this is safe?" I said nervously.

Jessica rolled her eyes and laughed. "It's only a frat party. Nothing bad could possibly happen, right?"

I sighed. "I guess. But you know how some guys can get when they're drunk."

Jessica placed her hand on my shoulder. "Trust me, I know. I've been to plenty of parties in the past. Just relax and enjoy yourself."

When we arrived at the frat house, there were already a few girls dressed in their sexiest outfits dancing around on the lawn outside the building. There were lots of people milling around, drinking and laughing. The music playing inside the big open room was loud and upbeat, and the smell of alcohol filled the air.

Jessica grabbed my hand and pulled me with her. She took me to meet some of her friends and of course her boyfriend Cole.

"Hey guys," she said introducing me to them.

It was funny because I had already known who most of them were but since I hardly said a word to any of them she felt the need to.

"Remember Brittany, my best friend who hardly goes out of the room. Well, now she's here to say hello."

Cole chuckled and smiled at me. He seemed nice enough.

"Hi Cole," I replied. He offered me a handshake and I gave him a small nod as I accepted it.

Beside him were two other guys who I recognized from class. One of them I knew slightly better, his name was Liam and he was a tall guy with dark brown hair and glasses. The other one, whose name I couldn't recall, was shorter with shaggy dirty blonde hair. They both nodded in my direction as I introduced myself.

Before I knew it they were all talking about 'God knows what' and I felt out of place. I always did have a hard time keeping up with conversations and I hated feeling left out.

"Umm..." I stuttered trying to get Jessica attention. "I will be outside getting some fresh air."

She waved goodbye as I excused myself.

I quickly walked away, heading towards the large trees that lined the edge of campus. The wind blew softly through the leaves and rustled them gently.

As I passed under the branches, I heard someone call out to me.

" Brittany,"

I turned to see a gorgeous looking guy walking towards me. He was tall, well-built and had short brown hair and blue eyes. He was dressed in a black leather jacket and ripped jeans. His face was familiar, though I didn't know where I had seen him before.

"Oh ... hi," I said as he approached me.

And I swear at that moment it was if I had lost all control over my body. I was standing in front of the most handsome guy I had ever seen and I didn't know how to act.

"Aren't you Brittany Whyte?" he asked.

My heart pounded in my chest. Did I hear that right? Was that really my name?

"Yes," I answered, not quite believing what I had just heard. How did someone so hot know my name?

"I'm Jake, Jessica's brother. I guess you don't remember because you were always so shy whenever I visited."

Then it hit me. Jake...

Of course! Jessica's very hot and sexy brother who she had always warned me to stay away from. Something about him made my face turn bright red, and my breathing intensified as I struggled to calm myself down.

His eyes glanced down to my dress as he took another step closer to me.

"You look very pretty tonight."

I was speechless. It was all I could do to keep myself from fainting.

Jake took a deep breath and smiled. "I mean, I never knew you were a total knockout."

I blushed.

"Um, thanks..." I said, my voice trailing off as he continued to smile at me.

I was definitely attracted to him, but I knew that I shouldn't be. Jessica had always told me how he was bad, a heart-breaker and on the wrong side of the law. But I couldn't help but stare at his handsome face, feeling my body tremble as I gazed at him.

"Why do you look so shocked?" he asked with a chuckle. "Don't tell me you've never been hit on before."

"I have.. I think so," I managed to say.

If only Jake knew what he was doing to my insides. How I was about to explode by just being inches away from him.

"I have to go," I said turning to walk away but he grabbed my wrist stopping me.

"Where are you going?"

I turned back and stared up into his piercing blue eyes.

"I need some air," I said trying to pull my hand away but he didn't let go.

"What's wrong with you?" He asked.

"Nothing," I said turning away.

He reached out again, pulling me closer to him. When we were standing only a foot apart, I felt the warmth of his body coming off of him.

"Do you always run away from everything that gets close to you?"

I smiled. "That's not exactly true."

"Then why are you walking away from me?"

....Because you're making me feel weak, vulnerable. Because when you look at me with those eyes of yours, my body doesn't know how to react....

Those were all the things I wanted to say but I ended up saying nothing.

"You know Jessica always told me to stay away from you. Something about you being a good girl and haven't even kissed a guy yet," he said staring into my eyes. His finger brushed against my cheek and I could feel it burning up.

"But as you know, I don't always follow rules."
