Chapter 1 Shattered Illusion

Sophia's Pov

I stared at the contract in front of me, my heart racing with anticipation. I had spent days finalizing it, pouring over every detail to make sure it was perfect. I thought my husband would be proud of me, that he would finally see me as an equal partner.

But as I looked up at him, I saw something that made my blood run cold. He was sitting at his desk, a cold, calculating look in his eyes. "Sign this," he said, pushing a stack of papers toward me.

Divorce papers.

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All I could do was stare at the papers, my mind racing with questions.

How could he do this to me? After everything I'd done for him, after all the sacrifices I'd made?

The woman sitting next to him smiled, a smug, self-satisfied smile. I recognized her instantly. She was the daughter of his boss, a woman who was notorious for getting what she wanted, no matter the cost.

I couldn't stop the laugh that bubbled up in my chest. It wasn't a happy laugh; it was bitter, full of despair.

How blind had I been? While I was pouring my heart and soul into our marriage, he was busy finding an easier path - her.

Five years. Five years of love, sacrifices, and loyalty crumbled in that moment.

The man I thought I knew, the man I had loved unconditionally, had replaced me without hesitation.

I was no longer his wife. I was just an obstacle to be discarded.

I signed the papers, my hand shaking with rage and sadness.

As I walked out of the room, I felt empty - like a part of me had been ripped away, leaving a hollow shell behind.

Days turned into weeks, and I sank deeper into despair.

I barely ate. I barely slept.

The house we had shared felt cold and unfamiliar.

Memories of our time together haunted every corner.

Then, one evening, everything changed.

I was sitting alone in a café, staring blankly at my untouched cup of coffee, when a shadow fell across my table.

I looked up and saw a man I had only heard about in whispers.

Julian Saint Clair.

The CEO of Saint Clair Industries.

Ruthless. Powerful. Untouchable.

"I believe this belongs to you," he said, holding out my scarf.

His voice was deep, his words calm but commanding.

I muttered a quiet thank you, trying to ignore the way his piercing eyes seemed to see right through me.

I thought that was the end of it, but Julian didn't walk away.

"I've heard about you," he said, pulling out the chair across from me and sitting down without waiting for an invitation.

I frowned.

"You have?"

He nodded.

"Your husband... or should I say, ex-husband... spoke about you often."

His words caught me off guard.

My ex-husband had mentioned me to Julian?

Why?

And why did it matter to him?

"I don't see why you'd care," I said, my voice sharper than I intended.

Julian's lips curved into a small smile.

"I care because I don't believe in letting good people go unnoticed."

I didn't understand what he meant at the time.

But over the next few weeks, Julian kept showing up.

At first, it was subtle - a chance meeting here, a polite conversation there.

But then it became more intentional.

He invited me to dinner.

He sent flowers to my office.

He even showed up outside my apartment one night, claiming he just wanted to make sure I got home safely.

I didn't know what to make of him.

He was everything my ex-husband wasn't - kind, attentive, protective.

But he was also intimidating.

There was a coldness in his eyes that told me he wasn't a man to be crossed.

Still, I couldn't deny the way he made me feel.

For the first time in years, someone treated me like I mattered.

Like I was worth something.

Then, one night, as we sat together on his balcony, overlooking the city lights, Julian turned to me and said the words that would change my life forever.

"Marry me."

I stared at him, my heart pounding in my chest.

"What?"

"You heard me," he said, his voice steady and calm.

"Marry me. I'll take care of you. I'll protect you. And I'll make sure no one ever dares to hurt you again."

I wanted to tell him he was crazy.

I wanted to tell him I wasn't ready.

But as I looked into his eyes, I realized he wasn't just offering me a way out of my pain.

He was offering me a chance to rebuild my life - a life where I wouldn't have to beg for love or settle for less than I deserved.

So, I said yes

Julian brings positivity Into my life.

He changed my bitterness to sweetness. I couldn't have ever Imagined that someone could get married to me after my ex- husband divorce me.

I remember when love was glooming between my ex-husband and me. He was everything back then and satisfied me with everything both materialistic and non materialistic.

He was one of the greatest man had ever know until he lose his job a year ago

Things suddenly changed

Although I still try to make sure I provide for our needs with my little penny, my husband is not satisfied and always complains about his new state of life and always wishes to go back to his old lifestyle when he used to have everything.

I tried contacting friends and loved ones for help but all was not yielding good results for me.

It was until I met a friend who introduced me to a young billionaire.

The first day I meet him was in his office and he asked me to come the next day around 7pm but not in his office but a close restaurant although I didn't want to go when I got home , I explained everything to my man and he asked to go

I went there as usual but the man was demanding for what I couldn't offer

On getting back home, I explained everything to my husband and he asked me to do it for the sake of love and if he get the offer he would be able to provide for our needs financially and we would be able to move back to our old lifestyle back then.

" I can never have sex out of wedlock " I said

" But this not cheating Sophia, it is for our own good " he said
