Celine and Elena had always been more than just sisters they were best friends, each other's safe place. Growing up, they faced their fair share of struggles. Their parents weren't wealthy, but they made sure their daughters had everything they needed before they passed away. Celine, being the older sister, took on responsibilities beyond her years. She often shielded Elena from the harsh realities of life, whether it was skipping meals so her little sister could eat or staying up late to help her with homework.
Elena, on the other hand, idolized Celine. No matter how tough things got, she always felt safe knowing her sister was by her side. Whenever life tried to break them, they held on to each other, promising that one day, they would rise above their struggles.
As they grew older, Celine worked tirelessly to secure a better future for them. She excelled in school, determined to build a life where neither she nor Elena would ever have to struggle again. Her dedication paid off when she met Mark in high school. He was kind, ambitious, and deeply in love with her. Together, they not only built a beautiful relationship but also created a thriving business from scratch.
Celine and Elena shared everything their joys, their fears, their little secrets that no one else could ever understand. Their bond was unbreakable, built on trust, mischief, and a love so natural it felt like breathing. They whispered secrets late at night under the covers, pinky swearing never to tell. Sometimes, one would break a promise, not out of malice but because secrets were heavy, and trust could be fragile. And when it happened, it stun like a tiny crack in glass. But no matter how much it bothered them, they always found their way back to each other because nothing felt right without their sister by their side.
"Stop running!" Celine shouted, chasing after Elena with all her might, her breath coming in short gasps. She finally caught up, lifting her little sister off the ground and launching a tickle attack.
"Who's got the long legs now?" she teased, pulling silly faces while Elena burst into uncontrollable giggles.
"Sis, that's not fair!" Elena pouted. "You didn't give me enough time to run farther!"
Celine smirked, ruffling Elena's hair. "Look, let's go make dinner together
Hand in hand, they walked towards the kitchen to make dinner for themselves. Their age and personalities does not have anything to do with their playful nature.
It was getting late, and the room was cloaked in darkness. Elena sat curled up in a blanket, alone with her thoughts, when Celine walked in.
"Hey, baby sis," she greeted softly. "What's up with you?"
She took a step closer and hesitated. "Wait... Elena, are you crying?" She quickly switched on the light, her eyes widening in concern.
"What on earth could make my sister cry like this?" Celine gasped. "Wait... Do you want chocolate?"
"No, Cely," Elena murmured.
Celine frowned. "Are you having cramps? But it's not even time for your period. Or...?"
Elena cut her off. "No, sis."
"Then what is it?" Celine asked, her full attention now on her sister.
Elena swallowed hard, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's Eugene, sis."
Celine's expression darkened instantly. "That rascal! I should have known." She reached for her phone. "Where's my phone? I need to give him the talk of his life. Why would he make my little baby cry?" she fumed.
"No, Cely, let him be," Elena said weakly. "There's no point."
She took a shaky breath before continuing. "Ruby called me earlier today and told me she saw my boyfriend shopping with another girl. Meanwhile, he told me he was out of town. I thought she was lying-until she sent me a picture she took of them together... hugging."
Celine clenched her jaw as Elena continued.
"I called him to confront him, but he lied straight to my face. When I showed him the picture, he lashed out at me, accused me of spying on him, and said I was monitoring his every move. Then he said... if I can't handle him having another girl, I should just get out.
Elena broke down, tears streaming down her face. "Sis... he's cheating on me," she sobbed.
Celine cupped Elena's tear-streaked face and gently wiped her cheeks. "Elena, my baby, you will get over him soonest I will make sure of that," she whispered. "Let's just pretend Eugene was never in the picture."
Elena shook her head, her voice trembling. "It's not that easy, sis."
"I know, baby. I understand how you feel," Celine said softly.
"No, you don't, Cely," Elena sniffled. "You've never experienced heartbreak. You're so lucky when it comes to relationships."
She took a deep breath and continued, her voice filled with pain. "Look at you and Mark. He treats you like a queen. He takes you on vacations, buys you gifts, and you're always going out on beautiful dates. You both work together, hand in hand, building a business empire. Soon, you two will be married, supporting each other every step of the way."
Elena's shoulders shook as fresh tears spilled from her eyes. "Meanwhile, I feel like I'm cursed. This is my third relationship in just two years. When I met Eugene, I thought I had finally found someone who would love me the way I love him. But it was all just an illusion. How long will these guys keep playing with my emotions?"
She broke down completely, sobbing uncontrollably.
Celine pulled her into a tight embrace, her own tears falling freely. "Baby, it's okay. You're making big sis cry now," she whispered, stroking Elena's hair. "That's not fair, my love."
She rocked Elena gently, holding her close, whispering soothing words, assuring her that one day, she would find someone who truly deserved her heart.
They stayed like that, wrapped in each other's arms, until exhaustion took over and they both drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Elena woke up feeling drained, her eyes swollen from the endless tears she had shed the night before.
"Ely, baby," Celine murmured, stretching her sore limbs. "Didn't even realize when I fell asleep. My body aches from the way we slept."
Elena turned to face her from the other side of the bed. "Good morning, sis."
Celine's gaze softened as she took in Elena's puffy eyes. "Your eyes are all swollen," she said with concern. "Did you at least get some rest?"
"I tried my best," Elena replied with a weak smile. She took a deep breath and looked at Celine with gratitude. "Thank you, sis... for staying with me, for comforting me. I honestly don't know what I would do without you." Tears welled up in her eyes again.
Celine sat up and wiped away the fresh tears before they could fall. "Baby, stop... please, it's too early for this," she whispered. "Why do you think I'm your big sister? Don't ever say that again. It's my responsibility to be here for you."
Elena sniffled and nodded, her voice breaking as she spoke. "Ever since Mum and Dad passed, you've been everything to me-my mother, my father, my sister, even my brother. You've raised me, protected me, loved me like no one else. I couldn't have asked for a better sister."
Celine felt a lump in her throat, her heart swelling with emotion. She reached out and pulled Elena into a warm hug, holding her tightly as if to shield her from the pain of the world.
"We don't need Eugene, or anyone who doesn't see our worth," Celine murmured. "We have each other, and that's more than enough."
Elena nodded against her sister's shoulder. "You're right. Love shouldn't make me feel like this. Maybe losing Eugene was a blessing in disguise."
Celine smiled, pressing a kiss to Elena's forehead. "Exactly. And when the right person comes, you won't have to beg for love, respect, or loyalty. They'll give it willingly, just like I always will."
Elena exhaled deeply, as if releasing the pain from her chest. "I love you, sis."
"I love you more, baby," Celine whispered.
As the morning sun streamed through the window, casting a golden glow over them, they both knew no matter what life threw their way, they would always have each other.
