On the way to the civil affairs bureau, I was rear-ended. The arrogant female driver of the luxury car that hit me called her husband, and it turned out to be my boyfriend, Gu Yuncheng, who was there to get a marriage certificate with me. So, I quickly broke up and left, but Gu Yuncheng knelt down and begged me not to leave him.

Chapter 1

A loud bang echoed through the air.

My car jolted violently, but thanks to the handbrake, the car only lurched forward about a meter before coming to a stop. Despite the seatbelt holding me back, the sudden forward motion caused me to hit the steering wheel, leaving my chest aching.

After taking a moment to recover, I put on a mask and got out of the car. The fact was that I had been rear-ended while waiting at a red light, and the other driver was at fault.

The car that hit me was a red Porsche worth ten times my Buick.

Both the Porsche's front bumper and my Buick's rear bumper were dented.

Despite the price difference, the quality seemed somewhat similar.

A woman with bold red lipstick and long, wavy brown hair stepped out of the Porsche. Although it was only early spring and still quite cool, she was wearing a knee-length dress, revealing her pale calves and a plunging neckline.

"OMG, you've wrecked my car. Can you afford to pay for it? Just wait, I'll have my husband handle this." She said disdainfully, glancing at me before making a phone call.

When I recognized her face, my heart dropped. It was Jacquelyn Quinn, the first love and the unforgettable woman of my boyfriend, Maxwell Powell.

I had heard she returned last month, but I didn't pay much attention since I wasn't familiar with her, and Maxwell's relationship with her was long over.

I didn't expect to meet her like this.

Initially, I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of it, but her attitude clearly showed that she didn't recognize me. So, I decided not to let it go like this and instead took out my phone to message Maxwell, "I've run into a bit of trouble and might be late."

Today was the day Maxwell and I planned to register our marriage. We had scheduled it for the afternoon because I had an important business meeting in the morning. I was heading from home, while he was coming from the office.

Unfortunately, I got rear-ended on the way.

Maxwell didn't reply to my message, so I called him, but the line was busy. Assuming he was occupied, I hung up and contacted the insurance company and the traffic police. After taking photos of the scene, I just waited there.

The traffic police arrived quickly, took photos, and asked us to move the cars. They then issued a liability report, judging full responsibility on the car behind me since I was stopped at a red light when it hit me. Luckily, I was the first car in line. Otherwise, it could have been a chain reaction.

However, Jacquelyn refused to sign the report, insisting on waiting for her husband.

Soon, a black Mercedes pulled up, and a tall man with long legs stepped out. The moment I saw him, my heart dropped completely.

"Honey, it was that woman's poor driving that caused the accident." Jacquelyn said, rushing over to wrap her arms around Maxwell's arm, pouting with a coy expression. "You just got me this new car, and now it's ruined."

Maxwell gently patted her hair. "Don't worry, Jacquelyn, I'll handle it." Then he turned to look at me.

I didn't know why, but although my instinct was to avoid his gaze, I ended up meeting his eyes. It wasn't my fault for being rear-ended, and certainly not my fault for being cheated on. Why should I hide?

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!
