Fated Existence Chapter 1 BEGINNING

EVERA

"I think this is enough." I said to no one in particular while counting the herbs I just picked out.

Suddenly, I heard a twig snap. I sniffed the air slowly. A rogue werewolf's presence is somewhere around here. I immediately jumped up a tree and hid on it.

"Come on, Evera. It's me, Lake." I heard a familiar voice say. I sighed in relief when I peaked a little on the tree and saw him looking back up at me.

I jumped down and waved at him with a playful smile on my face and he just rolled his eyes playfully. My mother's potion on him still didn't disappear, that's what he gets from shocking her and causing the unfinished potion to spill on him. Goddess, I could not stop laughing at that time. Now he has a scent of a rogue werewolf. Since those unfinished potions were suppose to be a mask on our scent for specific occasions.

"I know what your thinking, Don't even-" Before he could finish what he was saying, I burst out laughing. "-laugh." He finished grudgingly, while glaring at me. I stopped laughing and raised my hands up in surrender.

"Okay, pup. I'm sorry, okay? But that was so funny! Karma caught you so early." I said, holding my laugh.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever." He said with a pout. I smiled at him and made a peace sign.

"Collecting herbs?" He asked before I could speak. I looked at the basket full of herbs that I was holding.

"Yup. Got to complete my collection. What are you even doing here?" I asked with a curious expression. He's soon to be the next Beta after Nixon gets to become our Alpha. Shouldn't he be training?

"Just got bored. Also Alpha, my father and your father have a serious matter to attend to, so the training is cancelled for today." He replied, as if reading my thoughts.

"And you came hunting?" I asked him before walking towards a direction to find another different herb or herbs.

"Nope, well if you call hunting for you a hunt, then sure." He said, following behind me. A smile formed on my lips and I looked at him.

"Seriously, what do you find fun in looking for me knowing I'll just be hunting for herbs?" I asked with a little frown. He grinned before answering.

"Simple, it's just so fascinating how you can tell what kind of plant is a herb. And I love seeing you use your powers." He answered which made me chuckle.

"Okay then. I still need a brotherly company, I guess." I said and he clapped happily like a little child, if only I never see him flirting with girls then I might think he is very childish.

Want me to explain everything? I am Evera. I live in my father's pack. My father is a Gamma in the Pack and I'm soon supposed to be the first female Gamma.

Because most of the first born child of a Gamma is a boy, but I turned out to be a girl. And I have the Gamma blood so I have to be the female Gamma as for I'm an only child. If I don't want it or I can't do it, then I'll choose a certain person to be my replacement.

I don't want to be the female Gamma. I just want to be a healer of the pack. Our Alpha, Alpha Aldrich Huxley agreed and will be patient until I choose a replacement.

And the guy that is following behind me right now is Lake Foreson, son of our pack Beta, Beta Anthony Foreson. He is like my big brother, although he acts more childish than me. But he is very serious and protective with the guys that gets near me like a big brother, and of course, I wouldn't forget his flirty side towards girls, but not to me of course.

And Nixon is the son of Alpha Aldrich. He used to be a mischievous kid, very playful and loves to make pranks sometimes in our childhood. But a lot has changed since he shifted.

The Alpha in him started to grow and he became more commanding, serious and very bright. He is also like a big brother to me, just like Lake. But he is bit overprotective. He never had a brother or sister, just like me. But with different reasons.

Mine is because my mother couldn't give birth anymore and.. for Nixon, his story was very tragic. Our Luna died pregnant because of rogues. It was always rogues. She was already 3 months pregnant and her due was supposed to be next week in that year. Our pregnancy cycle runs different.

But nope, our pack was attacked by rogues that time. My mother managed to protect us with her magic but we didn't get to protect our Luna because she was taking a fresh air at that time inside the borders with two warriors guarding her.

And for what my mother found out while using her own magic, they were ambushed and Luna didn't manage to escape because of the bump. She was a nice woman, a great leader but she died in a horrible time.

I sat on a big rock after I finished picking the herbs and Lake sat on the ground while eating some blackberries we found along the way.

"All done?" He asked me and I just nodded at him, closing my basket. He squealed like a little girl and I looked at him weirdly.

"What was that?" I asked while looking at him. He pouted.

"Just forget I made that noise." He said and I just shrugged my shoulders.

"Why did you do that tho?" I asked him. He put on an excited expression before answering me.

"Let's have a run!" He exclaimed excitedly. I poked my tongue inside my mouth thinking about that.

"Sure, after I take my herbs back home." I said, standing up while holding the basket on my right hand and dusting my shirt and pants with my left.

"Yes!" He exclaimed excitedly before following behind me, singing different songs. I enjoyed every songs he sings tho. He has a very good voice.

We arrived home and I went inside. My Mother is currently reading a book while my father's nowhere to be found. Oh yeah, they have some important business to attend to.

"How was your day, honey? Herbs complete?" My mom asked, shifting her eyes away from the book she was reading and looked at me with a smile. I smiled back and nodded at her.

"Yes, mom." I answered, taking the basket up to my room.

"Oh, hi Lake!" I heard my mother greet before I entered my room. I placed the basket on the table and changed my shirt and pants into a green dress, so it would be easier to take off and put on later.

I looked at my self in the mirror and smiled in content. Thanks to my parent's good looks, I'm very pretty. Well, everyone is good-looking. People are just too judgemental. I shook my head while thinking about that. They don't know that they are already becoming ugly because of the way they judge other people's appearance. They may look good-looking, but for me.. the way they call people ugly is already making them ugly on the inside. They don't know art and uniqueness.

After getting out of the room, Lake and I bid a goodbye to my mom before walking outside of the borders. My family and I do not live in the pack house since my mother suggested to have our own house inside the borders.

We were almost at the outside borders when we heard a familiar voice.

"Where are you both going? I've been looking everywhere for the both of you!" Nixon said with an upset expression. We both looked at him and just smiled widely.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.
