Chapter 1 Betrayal

A smile etched on Ivelle's lips as she gazed at the report in her hand.

"You're indeed pregnant Ivelle." Zillah the pack doctor announced to her the words she had craved to hear for so long, joy emanated in her heart as she wanted to squeal in excitement but remained composed while thinking of how joyous her mate was going to be once he heard the news.

"Thank you." She nodded her head while collecting the pregnancy result from him.

"Minimize anything that can cause you stress and also watch your diet, most importantly, your alpha's pheromone is very important for the growth of your child." Zillah continued to advise her but those words leaned out of her ear as fast as they came in.

"If that is all, can I go?" She asked impatiently as her legs moved up and down restlessly.

"Yes, do come frequently for checkups, the document also has dates scheduled for you to come for visits," Zillah informed her before she dashed out of the office, form her house where she lived with the alpha wasn't too far from the clinic so she made her way there ignoring the states she received from others. They knew how grumpy she always looked but her aura today was quite different and very questioning.

She clutched her bag tighter, unable to think of how happy her mate was going to be, she had been mated to the pack alpha although he had yet to make her a Luna and only agreed to do so if she could bore him a child.

The thought of being the pack Luna made her feel proud and even more happy that after so long she was going to have her pup. She and her mate Mavros had been mates since she turned of age and the love spiraling before them was so strong that neither of the two was willing to let go of the other even when the odds seemed against them, the Luna needed to be fertile for the continuity of the pack's leadership so they we're both worry when they had tried almost a millionth time and nothing happened.

Walking through the front door her excitement heightened but Mavros was nowhere in sight, she hid the gilt behind her while searching for him in different rooms.

"Mavy?" She called out his nickname but there was no response. "Mavy I have something to tell you."

She continued to search for him but he was nowhere in sight if he had stepped out of the house then the door would have been locked so why couldn't she find him? She was about to walk to the other section of the house when a loud noise caught her attention, she was startled at first wondering what could have happened to him but she was even more worried when it sounded feminine.

She quickly made her way to the direction of the sound and saw it was from her room, she was puzzled and wondered who could be in her room, could it be that one of the maids had snuck in?

She sprung the door open and her eyes roved around the room until they landed on her bed where the activity was happening right in front of her eyes.

Her stepsister Fayra was moaning in pleasure as her mate Mavros thrust into her with brutal force, every thrust he made was sending Fayra into an erotic world of pleasure and igniting more pain in Ivelle's heart. Their clothes were scattered around and the room reeked of betrayal.

"What is the meaning of this?!" She snarled and stormed inside, unable to bear it any longer. "Have you no shame? How could you do this to me?!" She snapped at Mavros who froze and stared at her, time seemed to freeze and his eyes met her gaze, he felt no shame or remorse for what he had done.

"How could you betray me like this?" Ivelle snapped at him as hot tears slid down her cheeks, she had come bearing good news that would change their fate but here he was thrusting into her stepsister.

"Can't you see we are both busy? Why do you have to spoil the fun?" Fayra rolled her eyes while covering her body with the bed sheets and Mavros put on his clothes.

"He's my mate, why did you have to seduce him? What do you want from me? You and your mother already took my father away from me so why do you wish to cause me even more pain?" Ivelle's voice quivered as more tears rolled down her eyes.

"Of what use will it be to be with a barren like you? Or have you forgotten that I need an heir to succeed the pack?" Mavros's words struck her again and she felt even greater pain that she was unable to utter any more words.

"Get out of here right now or do you wish to see us go at it again?" Fayra snickered as her hands rubbed Mavros seductively, neither of them cared about the pain they had just submerged her into and began to play with each other all over again, not caring about her presence.

Ivelle cried uncontrollably before picking herself up from the floor and dashing out of the house, holding the file tightly in her hand.

She had no idea where she was going, all that mattered was that she wanted to escape from there, she wanted the pain of being heartbroken to fade, she wanted this nightmare to end, just maybe that would happen if she ran faster.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.
