Settled love: A high school romance Chapter 1 The mysterious new boy

Grade 12 was the senior class at White High School. Just like its name, the entire building was painted white. The students in Grade 12 were in their final year, preparing for their next big step, college.

Richard Collins, a 17-year-old guy, had just transferred to White High School. The moment he stepped into Grade 12 science class, all the girls went crazy. He was tall, handsome, and charming, exactly what every girl dreamed of.

But there was one girl who didn't care. To her, Richard was just like every other boy. She had learned the hard way not to trust guys.

Her name was Ella Spencer, a 16-year-old girl with long hair and glowing skin. She was one of the prettiest and smartest girls in the class. Her best friend, Emily Williams, was just as beautiful and brilliant.

Then there was Rayson Bills, Richard's new best friend. He was just as attractive as Richard, making him another favorite among the girls.

And finally, the TEM'S squad-Tiana Elliot, Elizabeth Chase, and Mia Jason. They were tall, gorgeous, and known for their love of gossip. But they weren't just pretty; they were also the biggest bullies in the class.

*White High*

It was early morning at White High School, one of the best schools in New York. After the usual morning assembly, students headed to their classrooms.

The bell rang for the first period-Mathematics. The Grade 12 students settled in as their class teacher, Mrs. Willington, walked in with a new student.

A tall, good-looking guy.

The girls whispered excitedly, staring at him.

"Introduce yourself, please," Mrs. Willington said.

"Good day, everyone. My name is Richard Collins," he said with a smile.

The girls giggled and exchanged looks.

"Alright, students, welcome Richard. Show him around during lunch break," Mrs. Willington instructed.

"Where should I sit, ma?" Richard asked.

"Here!" Tiana shouted, eager to have him beside her.

Mrs. Willington pointed to Tiana's seat. "Go sit there."

Tiana glanced at her squad, smiling in victory.

Richard sat down beside her.

"Hey, Richard," Tiana greeted, flashing her best smile. But he didn't respond.

"I'm Tiana, and these are my friends, Elizabeth and Mia. It's nice having you here... as my new seat partner."

"Thanks," Richard said, focusing on the teacher.

Tiana scoffed. How dare he ignore her?

*Lunch Break*

Students rushed to the cafeteria. Ella and Emily sat at a table, enjoying biscuits and soft drinks.

"Ella, did you see the new boy?" Emily asked, munching her biscuit.

"Yeah, Richard, right?" Ella responded, sipping her orange juice.

"Yes! I heard he and Rayson are already best friends. Rayson is showing him around."

"That's nice," Ella said, taking a bite of her biscuit.

"Look, they're coming this way," Emily whispered.

"Hey, girls," Rayson greeted with a smile.

"Hi, Rayson," they replied.

"Richard, meet Emily and Ella, best friends," Rayson introduced.

"Nice to meet you both," Richard said, winking at Ella.

Emily gasped. "Ella! Did you see that?! Richard just winked at you!"

"I saw it," Ella said, rolling her eyes. "What was that for?"

"C'mon, you know he's cute. You should be happy," Emily teased, twirling her hair.

"Handsome, my foot," Ella scoffed.

Emily winked playfully. "You're in denial."

They finished their snacks, and Emily leaned in. "By the way, I have some juicy gist about the TEM'S squad."

"Spill!" Ella said, eager.

Emily laughed. "Remember when Richard was looking for a seat? I saw Tiana signaling to Eliza and Mia before she let him sit next to her."

"That's suspicious," Ella said. "I wonder what she's planning."

"We'll find out soon," Emily said, standing up. "Let's get back to class. The bell's about to ring."

Right on cue, the bell rang.

"See? I'm a soothsayer," Ella joked.

Emily laughed. "Lucky me to have a soothsayer as a best friend."

They linked arms and headed back to class.

*An Empty Classroom*

"Hey, babes," Tiana greeted as she entered with Eliza and Mia.

"Hey, girl. What's up?" Eliza asked.

"I'm happy and annoyed at the same time," Tiana huffed.

"Why happy?" Mia asked.

"Richard is sitting next to me! But he's ignoring me. Am I not beautiful enough?" Tiana pouted.

"Of course, you are," Eliza reassured.

"Don't worry. I'll keep talking to him. He will be mine," Tiana said confidently.

"We got your back," Mia said.

"Thanks, babes," Tiana smirked as they walked into class.

*Grade 12 Class*

"Good afternoon, sir," the students chorused as Mr. John, their Chemistry teacher, walked in.

"Afternoon. Sit down," he instructed.

"Let's continue from our last lesson. Who remembers where we stopped?"

A few hands went up.

"Yes, Emily?"

"We stopped at the laboratory preparation of oxygen," Emily answered.

"Good job. A round of applause for Emily," Mr. John said, and the class clapped.

He continued the lesson. "Oxygen can be prepared in the lab by oxidizing hydrogen peroxide, decomposing, potassium trioxochlorate(V), and so on..."

*After School*

It was time to go home. Emily and Ella left together.

"I'll see you tomorrow. I can't come over today," Emily pouted.

"Till tomorrow, bestie," Ella said, hugging her.

They waved goodbye.

*After School Drama*

"Hey, Richard!"

He turned to see Tiana running up to him.

"Hi," he said, sounding uninterested.

"I... uh... I like you, Richard. Can we be friends?" she asked, smiling sweetly.

"We're already friends. Excuse me," Richard replied and walked away.

Tiana smirked. "Richard, you will like me. Just wait and see."

*A Sudden Collision*

Ella put on her earphones, swaying to the music as she walked toward the school gate.

Then,bam! She bumped into someone.

"Watch where you're going!" she snapped, looking up.

It was Richard.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.
