Tears flowed down his eyes like a broken dam.
"It's okay, Elli," Lyra softly said as she tried smiling through the pain, which felt like a thousand needles in her heart.
"Don't blame yourself when I'm gone," she said weakly as she placed her hand on his cheek, wiping away his tears.
"No, Lyra, please don't go," Eliot pleaded as he saw her eyes losing their sparkle.
Her hands fell limply by her side and her heart stopped beating.
"LYRA!!!!!!!!!" Eliot screamed, cuddling her body to his chest as he cried.
Thunder strokes as the heavens pour out an angry torment of rain feeling the grief of the broken lover.
Eliot carried Lyra's cold body with a broken heart as the rain kept on crashing down, washing away the blood around him. He walked away amidst the dead bodies around him with a broken heart and a thirst for revenge.
CHAPTER ONE
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
A loud groan could be heard from the king-sized bed as the alarm clock was harshly thrown on the wall. A figure angrily threw away the covers as he stood up and walked blindly to the bathroom trying to find the switch.
Feeling the cold surface of the light switch, Eliot turned it on as light flooded the whole room.
"Shit," he let out a curse as he walked to the basin, turning the faucet on, he splashed water on his face looking at his reflection.
His swollen eyes with dark circles stared back at him which showed his lack of sleep.
"Bloody nightmare," he cursed, turning off the faucet and the light as he walked back to his room in darkness and plopped on the bed, staring into the dark, reminiscing about Lyra.
Eliot Donald, one of the most skilled assassins, people claimed he was as handsome and deadly as the devil with his piercing black eyes that looked like a bottomless pit and sharp jaw; his face was a master craft. His nickname, Black Knight, sent shivers down the spine of all his victims.
He met Lyra during one of his operations; she was also an assassin; it was love at first sight. Since then, they have taken up all operations together. They were fearless and ruthless in their killing, not sparing anyone; they claimed they killed the rich and helped the poor.
The police were always on their trail but they were smarter and faster. The last operation was to eliminate John Biden, the CEO of KV motors who wanted to expand his buildings, then he ordered his men to demolish the town thousands of people lived in.
The operation was meant to be only 20 minutes, but after successfully killing him, they met with lots of bodyguards outside. They fought relentlessly, but Lyra was killed, and her killer escaped.
Eliot blamed himself because he brought up the idea, which Lyra didn't accept, and after much persuasion, she finally agreed. If he didn't force her, she would have still been beside him.
He could still remember her fierce eyes and her laughter, which always made him smile. She was perfect for him, they fitted like two peas in a pod.
Feeling tears trickling down his face, he wiped it off and turned sideways on his bed. After her death, he stopped his killings and left the country but he was still looking for her killer.
"Arg," he groaned as he tossed away the blankets and stood up. Walking downstairs to grab a bottle of water from the fridge, he opened the sliding door and stepped out to the balcony, looking at the waves crashing down; he lived in a remote penthouse just beside the beach in Paris.
"Lyra, I'm going to find whoever killed you; I'll make sure he pays," Eliot said as he placed the locket, which had her picture in it, close to his chest.
But little did he expect what life was going to throw at him.
************
"Detective Clara" George, the Chief of the police department, a middle-aged man, called Clara's name as she walked into his office.
"Yes, chief," Clara Rosewood, a beautiful young lady with big brown eyes and short, wavy brown hair, saluted her superior.
"You have heard about the trafficking of young girls in Paris?" He asked and Clara nodded her head.
"The superiors have decided we should send our best team to crack them down, and the only team good for this job is your team, the violent crimes." He paused, trying to access her expression.
" You and your team are to prepare because you are all going to Paris as undercover agents," He said as he stood up and stretched out his hand for a handshake.
He smiled when she gripped his hands tightly. He looked at the young, energetic cop in front of him.
She had ace all her exams and worked beautifully well in the field, she was the perfect combination of beauty and brains.
"Thank you very much, sir; it would be a great honor to take up the task," Clara said with a bit of joy in her voice.
It had always been her dream to move out of Los Angeles and see other countries, but due to her work, it was nearly impossible, but now it has come true. She is going to Paris!!!.
"Detective!?" George called out when he saw she was lost in thoughts.
"Yes sir, I'm sorry, I got carried away" She answered as she reprimanded herself for daydreaming in front of her superior.
"You have to be careful, those guys are ruthless and won't hesitate to kill you. I trust you and your teammates, so go out there and make me proud" He said
"I wish you all the best" He ended as he nodded to her that she could leave his office.
Grinning, Clara walked back to her desk with smiles all over her face.
"Yo!, what's good?" Mark, a dark skin handsome young man with brown eyes and a dazzling big smile walked up to her and wrapped his hand around her shoulder; he was part of Clara's team.
"Where's Stephen and Allison?" Clara asked
"They went to the coffee shop too.., oh, here they are," he pointed to the two who walked in carrying 4 cups of coffee.
"Coffee??? When we have a task at hand" Clara shook her head in disapproval as she collected a cup and took a sip.
"Uhmm, this is delicious," she said, drinking the whole cup.
"I thought someone had a complaint about drinking coffee during working hours." Stephen teased her.
"Well, I have to admit, it tastes good, and I needed it." She smiled at him. "Well, there's big news.." Clara said, catching the attention of her teammates.
"What's it??? Spill it out," Allison ran over to her side and held her hands.
"Chill" Clara laughed at Allison's expression, she was always agitated whenever there was news.
"Well, we are going to Paris." She looked at everyone's expression.
"What!!!!" They all shouted in unison catching the attention of other people around them.
"Guys," Clara burst into laughter at their faces; they all looked surprised.
"For what? Why are we going to Paris?? Will we get to see the Eiffel Tower?" Allison shouted in excitement. "I've been dreaming of visiting that tower".
"We are going on a mission, an undercover mission to crack down on the Blue Wolf gang, and if we are opportune, we can visit the Eiffel Tower," Clara explained everything to them.
"Waw, this is a big mission on our hands and also dangerous; we have to be very careful because these guys are very dangerous." Clara stretched her hands and snatched Mark's coffee, which he had almost finished, and gulped all the content.
"Hey, that's mine, you already drank yours." he tried collecting the cup back but instead tripped on his feet, and they both crashed on the floor.
"Awwwwn" Allison and Stephen both gushed.
"What a cute position, Detective Clara and Mark" A voice sounded behind them.
They all turned to the voice and quickly composed themselves when they saw their Chief.
"Chief" They saluted.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you guys. I can see you all are in a very good mood" George looked at them. "I just came to inform you all that you would be going tomorrow, so go home, rest, and pack up," He said.
"Okay, sir, we will get prepared." George nodded his head in response as he wished them good luck.
"We are going to Paris.. whoo, let's all go home and pack as our superior had said; see you guys tomorrow," Clara said as they walked out and wished themselves goodbye.
"Clara," Mark called. "Let me take you home," he offered, pointing to his Audi.
"I really appreciate it, but don't bother; tomorrow will be stressful for us all, so go home and rest, thanks." She turned him down politely as she quickly hailed a cab and waved him goodbye.
Mark stood in silence while he watched the cab drive out of his sight. His love for Clara kept increasing day by day, and he was bent on doing anything to have her.
"Clara, you would be mine" he muttered under his breath and drove away.
