"Why are you doing this" she asked, her voice tinged with defeat. "Because I can," he replied simply, standing up and stepping closer to her. His grey eyes glinting with a mix of amusement and possessiveness. "But I'm not completely heartless, I am willing to make a deal." She stiffened, every fiber of her being screaming at her to resist. Chapter 1 Axel's Obsession

"Excuse me sir," the tall, young man with blonde hair wearing a thin-framed glasses announced as he entered the room. In his hands, was a file with the cover featuring a portrait of a woman and a name.

With purposeful strides, he made his way to the table where the individual he was addressing sat, their back turned towards the entrance. The desk was cluttered with files, and a nameplate adorned with the name "Adonis Langston" in elegant cursive script caught the young man's eye.

Placing the file carefully on the table, the man took a deep breath before speaking, "Sir, I have Miss Edward's daily report ready for you."

The man seated on the luxurious chair remained silent, it was evident that the man behind the chair had a aloof and superior demeanor.

"Did she have another meeting with that man?"a chilly voice unexpectedly reverberated, seemingly originating from the person seated in the chair. The man with fair hair nervously swallowed, debating whether to answer the figure positioned behind the chair.

He had weighed the consequences of revealing or withholding the information, knowing that the outcome would be the same either way. He felt the weight of the responsibility placed on him to keep this man updated on the case, a task that was both straightforward and incredibly challenging.

He parted his lips to address the situation, yet hesitated as he realized his words may fuel the man's anger. Therefore, he opted to remain silent, guided by the apprehension of provoking further anger.

"Noah," The chilling voice resonated with an implicit caution. Noah, the fair-haired individual, knew the implication and promptly responded, his posture instinctively aligning upright.

"Yes, Mr. Langston," Noah replied in a respectful and polite manner. Noah's response indicated his acknowledgment of Mr. Langston's authority and he concealed his unwillingness to engage in further conversation with him.

"Did she or did she not have an encounter with him earlier today?" queried the man positioned behind the luxurious and plush armchair, who was known to Noah as Mr. Langston, speaking with a hint of curiosity and anger in his voice.

"Yes, Mr. Langston, "Noah replied with a subtle undertone of resignation.

As Noah prepared to provide an explanation, the chair suddenly swiveled, revealing a pair of piercing metallic grey eyes that locked onto Noah's gaze with a deadly intensity.

Noah instinctively averted his eyes, feeling the weight of the man's stare as he scanned the spacious office around them.

The man with the intense grey eyes, who was identified as Mr. Langston by Noah, calmly crossed his legs and drew his chair closer to the desk.

With a swift movement, he picked up the file that Noah had placed on the table, which featured a picture of a woman's face on the cover. Despite his outward composure, Mr. Langston exuded a palpable aura of tension, causing his grey eyes to blaze like a raging inferno.

He scrutinized the document on the table with a narrowed gaze, his expression unreadable yet filled with a sense of foreboding.

"I believe I personally instructed you to address the issue concerning that gentleman," Mr. Langston inquired. His demeanor appeared composed, yet Noah discerned that this facade was deceptive.

Noah was well aware that this man rarely exhibited any emotions in front of others, with the exception of that pivotal night four years ago. On that particular evening, a young lady crossed his path, and ever since, he had been searching for her.

During that period, he began displaying emotions and sentiments, only for them to dissipate three months after the incident.

However, now he was once again exhibiting those same sentiments he exhibited when he encountered the girl from that fateful night. This time, the emotions seemed more genuine and relatable, as the girl he harbored peculiar feelings for was allegedly engaged.

"Noah?" Mr. Langston, who had his fingers interlaced in a steeple position, called out to Noah as his patience waned. Noah snapped out of his reverie and turned to face Mr. Langston. His mind was consumed by panic, and the first thing he noticed were Mr. Langston's piercing grey eyes that seemed capable of engulfing him at any given moment.

His face turned ashen, as his breath got caught in his throat. He cautiously retreated a few paces in order to maintain a safe distance from his superior.

He only stopped when he felt that the space between himself and the piercing gray eyes was more than enough, he finally released the breath he had unknowingly been holding.

"Well, Mr. Langston, you assigned the task to Michael under the assumption that I lacked the courage to handle your...unethical requests," Noah recoiled slightly at the thought of him doing his boss "dirty work" as he readjusted his slipping glasses and wiped away the sweat on his brow.

"In that case, why did you not let Michael accompany you here?" inquired Mr. Langston.

.

"He...He... Michael was not present when I arrived today, Mr. Adonis,"Noah responded forlornly. Silence permeated the room like a thick fog, yet the tension continued to escalate.

Noah hung his head in regret upon realizing his error. He truly should have contacted Michael beforehand, but he had placed excessive trust in him, assuming that Michael would have completed the task competently.

"BANG"

The deafening sound of a forceful impact reverberated throughout the room as Adonis forcefully brought his fist down onto the table in a fit of frustration. The sheer intensity of the blow resulted in a significant hole being created in the once smooth surface of the table and there was a trace of blood on the table.

Noah, who was taken aback by the sudden outburst, found himself frozen in shock, his gaze shifting between the damaged table and Adonis hands and back.

Despite the initial shock, Noah quickly composed himself and sprang into action. Recognizing the need to diffuse the tension and calm his boss down, he swiftly made his way to the water dispenser.

As Noah fetched the water, a myriad of thoughts raced through his mind about the possibility of it being him in that precarious situation.

Despite briefly entertaining the idea, he ultimately dismissed it, reassured by the value he held in his boss's eyes and the sentiment the boss had for him as his assistant.

As the water neared the brim, Noah picked up an handkerchief on the shelf next to the dispenser and hastened back.

He delicately set them down on the untouched section of the table, anxiously gesturing for Adonis to take them.

Meanwhile, Adonis, whose second hand was soothing his temples, observed Noah's gesture, took the handkerchief and cleaned off the blood on his hand and composed himself, he reached for the water, bringing it to his lips before meeting Noah's gaze.

"Please go search for him," Adonis instructed after savoring a sip of the water, which appeared to have restored his composure. Noah looked at Adonis injured hand as he looked at his boss with questions clearly written in his gaze

Adonis knew what exactly was going on his secretary's head so he responded to his questioning gaze

"I'm fine, just go search for Michael and call the nurse into my office".

Hearing this, Noah promptly darted out of his office, as if eagerly anticipating Adonis to give that instruction.

Upon the door being closed, Adonis sank into his chair in disbelief and frustration. The woman who had left him a letter and a cheque of a thousand dollars four years ago had returned, but now engaged. Only Adonis and his private investigator were aware of the depths of his yearning to locate her.

After a relentless four-year pursuit, to which he found her three months into the four years pursuit, yet he could only observe from afar as she was beyond his reach.

Now that she had reappeared in his city, it appeared she had no recollection of him or their shared night, and most significantly, she now belonged to another.

...

Outside the Office

Noah's hasty exit was followed by the soft whisper of a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows outside Adonis's office
