Chapter 1 Not suprised

VIENNA

My breath hitches with every wavering pulse my heart beats, as I wince to the chill of the silver rifle pushed deeper into my side.

Sat before me was my ever so loving husband Kane Caruso with a bitter-sweet smirk plastered against his face while he watched his mistress, Jessica pointedly threaten me just to end our marriage.

"I always wanted to meet the wench that scurried her way into marrying you but she looks ridiculous," she laughed, gripping my arm tightly, digging her nails into my skin.

He stared at her with intense desire with pride gleaming in his eyes.

I clenched my fists, watching him closely as he bore holes into my skull, but I chose to remain emotionless.

"Don't look at me like that," he pouted, walking towards me lightly tracing the outlay of my jawline before gripping my neck.

"You chose this fate when you decided to take my Grandmother up on the offer to marry me," he whispered.

"Besides, we both knew I wasn't planning on sticking to you,"

"You can't do this to me... please," I pleaded, clutching the hand tightly gripped around my throat.

The smile on his face widens and his eyes sparkle with mischief. He lets go of me, giving me a chance to breathe in the air before Jessica slashes me across the face with a slap.

"You would've made loads of money off her if you sold her off to the Mencia Syndicate," she whined, gripping my hair and mustering the most pathetic pout I'd ever seen.

My lips quivered at the sight of his tenderness towards her, while he rubbed her cheek ever so slightly.

We grew up together, I remember how loving he was as a teenager and how he stole my heart. But since he became the new Don it's as if the devil woke up from his slumber.

Before my mother's death, we were already set to be married. He didn't plan on going ahead with it, till his grandmother spoke to him.

He saw no problem with it, it was the perfect chance for the public eye to stop snooping around his personal life and accept that Lord Kane had settled down.

Little did I know my life was about to become more hellish. After our wedding, he was a ghost distant from our home. He only returned to feed his hunger for sex and disappear the next morning.

"What are you staring at?" Jessica smirked, "Don't worry we'll be done with you soon enough, there's no need to drag this embarrassing moment any longer," she grinned, throwing the rifle in her hand on the carpet.

"Sign these, I want this settled sooner than later," he threw the divorce papers at me.

I grip the papers tightly, My eyes burning with the stinging sensation of tears threatening to fall.

"What do I get in return?" I muttered. The room grows silent and I look up to find their gaze fixed on me with a scowl.

"Your freedom duh," Jessica rolled her eyes drawing her finger on his bicep seductively, "she's slower than I thought,"

"I want the Caruso winery," I demanded, awaiting their response. Kane eyes me silently, deliberating the offer I just came up with.

My mother loves that place and his grandmother promised to hand it down to her before she passed, but she never did.

"Done, you can have it," he retorted, Jessica gawked at him with a frown deepening on her face.

"She doesn't deserve that much, what could she possibly need a winery for?" Jessica pondered with watery eyes and Kane only kissed her lightly on the cheek.

"I never loved her but fair enough she stayed committed to me, and that I will not regard blatantly." he soothed her, his thumb drawing circles at the back of her palm.

"Besides, the winery had been there for decades and nobody had used them. I don't mind someone just as wretched claiming it," he drew bitterly, throwing me daggers.

With shaky hands I ever so gently sign the papers, flinging them towards them on the ground. And true to his words, my phone lit up with a lease document ready to be signed.

I furrow my brows in confusion. He didn't tell anyone yet so how was he able to get this done so fast?

"I want you gone before the end of the day," he groaned, picking Jessica's bridal style whilst going up the stairs. They stared at each other lovingly as though they were soul mates.

"Miss Vienna, we need you to pack your things before we throw you out ourselves," Edward commanded, standing beside me.

His cool demeanor couldn't hide the worry evident in his eyes. I watched the men following behind watch me so coldly with their hands tightly fitted on the pistols in their pockets.

Edward and I have a stronger relationship in the house that anyone knows of. Being a wife to a busy man who has no intention of being intimate with you leaves a woman lonely.

The men follow behind me as I head to my room. I stop in front of the door with my hand on the knob when I turn back.

"I need only Edward to follow me in," they shared wondering looks amongst one another till someone finally spoke.

"That isn't happening, we were told to keep you in order and make sure there isn't any funny business," he threaded forward till Edward held his hand in the air for him to halt.

"It's alright, keep watch in case anything suspicious goes on inside," he ordered. I threw the door open leading the way for him before he shuts it behind him.

"What do you -" I shut him up with my lips latching onto every last breath we would be sharing. He holds my waist firmly pulling my body closer to his.

His body heat radiated off him and I felt a sense of warmth. He pecked my cheek leaving a trail of light kisses down my neck before nuzzling his nose into my collarbone.

I run my fingers through his hair till I hear the rumbling of a growl emitting from his throat.

"What was that?" I asked pulling away from him. He looked at me with desire, his breath uneven and pupils pitch black.

I reached forward to see his face clearly but he pulled away, rubbing his palm over his face and suddenly he looked fine.

"Nothing, what did you need?" he ignored me, pushing his hair back to its original style.

I have to be hallucinating, he usually makes those sorts of sounds but that was... inhumane.

"I need you to get me to the nearest store, I have something very important to get before I meet my brother at the airport,"

"What sort of 'THING' ?" he raised a brow, searching my eyes for an explanation.

"I'll show you in the car when I finally get it,"

I pulled my luggage together and confidently walked out of the villa with my chin up into our Bentley or Kane's Bentley, now that we're separated.

We stop at the nearest store and I give Edward a look to remain seated in the car. I walk in alarming everyone with the lightest ringing of the store bell before I go searching for what I need.

~~~
"That was quick, what was it you needed to get?" Edward grinned, staring at me through the rearview mirror.
"Let's start moving first, I'll just show you on the way," I grinned, putting my seat belt back on.
Edward started the car but before we could start moving a wooden bat smashed into his car window. The masked figure reached in slamming his face into the steering wheel before looking at me.
I quickly lock my car door with the safety latch but before I can reach the other door, another masked man pulls it open.
I scream in fear, kicking my feet in every direction to keep him away. I feel shards of glass fall over my face and the car door behind me is opened from the inside.
I'm pulled out and a bag is placed over my head. Pain suddenly spreads through my skull till I'm enveloped by darkness.
