Our Story: Through You, Through Me, Through Us Chapter 1 The Escape

Author's POV

On one of the streets of Madison, a young man around 25 years old stood with a phone pressed to his ear. From his serious expression, it was clear the conversation was important.

"Are you sure you want to do this? Think again, Elena. After this, there's no way back. Look, I'm ready, but I know this will be the hardest thing for you to do. So... think carefully."

"I'm sure. Very sure, actually. I don't want to stay here. I can't marry someone I don't even know-he's so old! My father has gone crazy ever since he learned about you. He will surely marry me off to him. So, yeah, I think this is the better option, and I'm ready."

"Alright then, I'm on the backstreet near your house, waiting for you. Come quickly."

"Okay, I'll be there in five minutes," she said before hanging up.

Dressed in a red bridal outfit, Elena hurriedly grabbed two pieces of cloth and ran to the bathroom. When she came out, her jewelry was gone, her makeup wiped clean, and her hair undone. She picked up a bag from the table, emptied its contents onto the bed, and began stuffing it with her clothes, some money, and a diary. Putting on a hoodie over her shirt, she covered her head with the hood, slipped into her sneakers, locked the door, and moved toward the window.

The height wasn't too much-she could easily escape. She opened the window and jumped out.

The house wasn't big, nor did it have a backyard. As she landed on the street, bustling with shops and people, she quickly closed the window behind her. Of course, she couldn't lock it. Adjusting her bag on her shoulders and shoving her hands into the hoodie's pockets, she started walking.

She crossed her street and soon reached the one where she was supposed to meet him. Spotting him from a distance, she walked toward him, trying to stay calm.

"Finally, you're here. No one saw you, right?" he asked.

"No, thankfully. But let's just leave-it's not safe to stay here."

"Yeah, come on," he said, holding her hand as they headed toward the road.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"We're leaving the city," he replied.

"Aaron, are you sure your parents won't say anything?"

"Yes, I'm sure. We'll get married first, and then I'll take you home. That way, no one can say a word," he assured her. She nodded.

They stopped at a corner, waiting for a taxi. Elena held his hand tightly. She was scared-what they were doing was no small thing. They had taken a huge step, and there was no turning back.

Elena's POV

I'm scared. I don't know if what I did is right or wrong, but I had no other choice. I can't marry that old man-he's 46 or 47 years old, and he has a daughter my age. I'm just 25! The age gap is huge.

My father... I don't know what to say about him. He's mad, I guess. Just because he found out about Aaron, he's ready to ruin my life. I'm his daughter, but look at what he's doing to me. How can he even think like this?

We got into the taxi. My thoughts kept drifting to everything that had happened in the last two days. How quickly life can change. I just ran away from my marriage. I can't believe it-I still can't believe we actually did it.

Aaron is my college friend. We've been together for a year now. Everything with him is beautiful and memorable. And now, we're going to get married. I don't know if his parents will ever accept me, but... I just hope for the best.

My chain of thoughts broke as the car came to a sudden halt. I looked ahead to see a black BMW blocking the road.

"What the hell?"

"Let me check, sir," the driver said, stepping out of the car.

"What if he was sent by Dad?" I asked, clutching Aaron's hand tightly.

"Don't worry. He can't be. Look, he's a rich guy. Why would someone like him work for your dad? Let me see what's going on," Aaron said, stepping out of the car.

The man in the BMW didn't step out immediately. Aaron tried to open the door, but it was locked. I decided to get out as well to see what was happening.

"Man, what do you want? Get out or move your car. Why are you blocking the road?"

The road was narrow-too thin for two cars to pass simultaneously. I didn't know what this new problem was now.

"Hello! I'm talking to you. Are you even listening?" Aaron shouted.

Finally, the door opened. First, a pair of legs stepped out, and then the rest of the man's figure followed. He was lighting a cigarette with a lighter. Dressed in a suit, he exuded wealth and authority.

I turned around and noticed two more cars stopping behind our taxi. Four or five men, all dressed in similar suits, stepped out. They looked like bodyguards.

Wait...

What's going on?

"Who are you?" Aaron demanded.

The man didn't say a word-he was busy smoking. A moment later, the bodyguards grabbed us both.

"Hey! What are you doing? Let us go!" Aaron yelled.

I was terrified. Now I was certain-this man was sent by my father. Why else would he do this?

"Aaron!" I screamed in fear.

"Who are you? Leave us, you bastard! I'm warning you-let us go!"

I struggled to free myself, but there were too many of them. They forced us into a car, and I had no idea where we were being taken.

Oh God, what is this new problem now?

HONEY MULLINS

Six years ago, I was a naive girl sold by my father to the powerful Sanders estate, only to be tossed onto the streets after a brutal assault they labeled "marital infidelity." I fled the country pregnant and broken, hiding from the shadow of a husband I had never even met. Now, I've returned to New York with my triplets to sign the final divorce papers and disappear forever. But Archibald Sanders-the man I was told was a crippled recluse-intercepted us with the cold precision of a predator. He didn't see the woman his family destroyed; he saw a gold-digger who had shamed his name. His security team hunted us to a grimy motel, using tactical force to snatch my children away and drag me to his glass-walled empire. In his office, he loomed over me, demanding a DNA test and threatening to throw me in prison while my babies were lost to the foster system. He was convinced I'd cheated, yet he stared at my sons with a haunting confusion, unable to ignore the stormy blue eyes that were a perfect mirror of his own. I stood there, paralyzed by his scent-the sharp tang of rain and expensive leather that triggered the icy dread of my worst nightmares. How could he accuse me of betrayal when he felt exactly like the monster who had shattered my life in that dark hotel room? "I'll sign anything," I sobbed, "just give me my kids." But the game changed when my five-year-old son hacked the tower's security, holding the skyscraper hostage to save me. In the chaos, a fragile, silent boy-Archibald's secret son-wandered into the room and reached for me as if I were his missing soul. Archibald's face turned to stone as he tore up the agreement and locked the doors. "Until I find out why my son is looking at you like that," he growled, "you aren't going anywhere."

Landslide

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
