Heartbreak is nothing new to Luna Skyheart. She has determined never to trust fate again after five failed mate bonds. Her resolve is put to the test, though, as her sixth bond ties her to the mysterious and formidable Lycan King, King Rex Reign. Luna must choose between rejecting the mate bond once more or risking all for a love that could rescue them all as adversaries emerge, envious rivals plot her ruin, and a prophecy speaks of disaster.

Chapter 1 Marked by the Sixth Bond

The expansive courtyard of the Lycan Council Summit was illuminated by the silvery light of the moon, which was high in the midnight sky. Tension and the smell of restless wolves filled the electrified air. With her heart thumping like a battle drum, Luna Skyheart stood at the edge of the crowd, shrouded in darkness. Her only defence was neutrality, even if she hadn't wanted to attend. Rumours would spread if she turned down the council's invitation. She would be viewed as weak, or worse, as an adversary.

Five ties between mates. Five betrayals. She discovered the hard way that the promises made by fate were nothing more than cruel jokes.

Grasping the edge of her black cloak, she said to herself, "Keep your distance." Her sharp silver eyes looked around the party. Tonight, the most potent Lycans in the realm had gathered, their auras oppressive. Peace treaties were purportedly the Council's topic of discussion, but Luna had other ideas. Power struggles and secret ambitions simmered beneath the surface like a storm.

He was at the heart of it all.

King Rex Reign.

The glittering eyes of the Lycan King scanned the gathering like a predator assessing its prey as he stood upright. Even when he was silent, his magnetic presence demanded attention. With his broad shoulders and dark armour bearing his house's symbol, Rex was a man of might and authority. The way his aura seemed to ripple, like a wolf that was hardly leashed, was what Luna found most striking, though.

Luna had not experienced this feeling in years, yet she felt an odd tug deep in her chest. She shrugged it off fast. It wasn't authentic. It isn't possible.

Behind her, a sneering voice said, "Luna Skyheart."

She turned abruptly and saw her old rival, Selene Nightshade. Wearing a red gown that exuded self-assurance, Selene grinned, her emerald eyes shining with ill intent. "I'm stunned that you had the courage to reveal your face here." Luna whispered,

"Not now, Selene," in a chilly tone.

"Are we scared?" With anger in her words, Selene took a step closer. "You ought not to have shown up. The broken are not welcome here.

Luna's fists tensed, but the air was broken by a thunderous roar before she could react. The audience froze.

A number of creatures appeared out of the forest's shadows, their motions purposeful and predatory. Even though their faces were hidden by the darkness, it was clear that they had malevolent intent.

"Assassins!" a voice cried.

There was anarchy. The courtyard was filled with howls and snarls as lycans transformed into wolves. With their guns shining in the moonlight, the assassins struck quickly. The Lycan King was the direct target of a well-planned attack rather than a haphazard one.

Rex grabbed a huge broadsword from his back and held his stance, his golden eyes narrowing. Over the commotion, his voice roared. "Keep the council safe! Don't allow them to disperse!

Despite her senses telling her to run, Luna's feet would not budge. She saw Rex fight with a fierceness that was both amazing and terrible. He was a tornado of steel and claws, precisely dispatching foes.

Then she noticed it, though.

With an unnaturally fast pace and a blade pointed directly at Rex's exposed back, a shadowy figure slid through the confusion.

Luna didn't think. She moved.

Her body responded instinctively, and she felt a rush of strength that had not been present in years. She launched herself into the battle and caught the assassin as the blade was about to fall. The knife grazed her side, causing pain to burst, but she continued. As she called forth an unexplainable force, her silver eyes sparkled.

A shockwave exploded from her body, sending the assassin flying into a stone pillar as the air around her crackled. The audience turned to look at her, and silence descended.

Rex's golden eyes widened in surprise as his sight met hers. Then his face changed, and his eyes flashed with something primordial.

Like a steel trap, the bond slammed into position.

Luna staggered back, whispering, "No."

The mark of the mate bond blazed like fire into her flesh, burning into her chest.

"Stop!" Rex yelled and moved in her direction.

However, Luna was unable to breathe. She was unable to think. Her lifelong struggle to break free from the link she had vowed never to embrace had returned to haunt her.

Her sixth mate was Rex Reign.

He yelled, "Luna, hold on!" But she had already started to run. Her head a whirl of bewilderment and terror, her pulse pounding, she vanished into the forest.

Rex stood motionless in the courtyard, his hand still extended. He looked down at his arm's flaming mark, which was the same as the one that was currently burning on Luna's.

He said, "She's my mate," with a tone of astonishment and resolve. Then he turned to his guards, his jaw clenched.

"Seek her out," he ordered. "Return her to me."

However, Rex knew in his heart that it wouldn't be that easy. He had never had a bond like this, and Luna Skyheart was no ordinary woman.

"Lucien, let's get a divorce," I said in a peremptory tone that was long overdue, the most decisive farewell to this absurd marriage. We had been married for exactly three years-three years that, for me, were filled with nothing but endless loneliness and torment. For three years, the husband who should have stood by my side through every storm, Lucien Sullivan, had completely disappeared from my life as if he had never existed. He vanished without a trace, leaving me alone to endure this empty, desolate marriage. Today, I finally received his message: "I'm back. Come pick me up at the airport." When I read his words, my heart leapt with joy, and I raced to the airport, thinking that he finally understood my love and was coming back to me. But his cruelty was far worse than I could have ever imagined-he was accompanied by a pregnant woman, and that woman was Carla, my closest and most trusted friend. In that moment, all of my previous excitement, all my hope, and all of our shared laughter and tears turned into the sharpest of daggers, stabbing into my heart and leaving me gasping for air. Now, all I want is to escape from this place that has left me so broken-to lick my wounds in solitude. Even if these wounds will remain with me for the rest of my life, I refuse to have anything to do with him ever again. He should know that it was his own hand that trampled our love underfoot, that his coldness and betrayal created this irreparable situation. But when he heard those words, he desperately clung to this broken, crumbling marriage, unwilling to let it end-almost as though doing so could rewind time and return everything to how it used to be. "Aurora, come back. I regret everything!" Regret? Those simple words stirred no emotion in me-only endless sadness and fury. My heart let out a frantic, desperate scream: It's too late for any of this!

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.

I Slapped My Fiancé-Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
