Chapter 1 Woke Up In Different Mansion

Kate opened her eyes slowly, her eyelids feeling heavy as if they were carrying an invisible weight. The soft scent of sandalwood touched her sense of smell, making her realize that this was not her room.

The room's luxurious, classically carved ceiling greeted her gaze, reflecting the soft light from the crystal chandelier above.

She felt the coolness of the silk fabric against her skin, making her shudder. As she tried to sit up, her head throbbed, and a heavy voice stopped her.

"Awake, Kate?"

The voice was like lightning striking her consciousness. Kate turned her head quickly, and in the corner of the room stood a tall man in a perfect black suit. His face was so cold, his eyes as pitch black as a bottomless pit. Willson.

"Who... are you? What are you doing?" Kate whispered, her voice trembling.

Willson stepped closer, his hands shoved into his pants pockets, his movements confident and threatening.

"I'm Willson. You may have heard the name before, but now you have no choice but to recognize it."

Kate backed away slightly, pressing her body against the back of the bed.

"Why am I here? What do you want from me?"

Willson gave a short, humorless laugh. "It's not you I want, Kate. But unfortunately, you are part of my plan. You should thank your fiancé, the asshole who betrayed me first."

Kate widened her eyes. "What do you mean, my fiancé has nothing to do with you!"

"Really?" Willson lowered his head, bringing his face so close that Kate could feel the chill from it.

"He ruined my life, stole something so precious. And now, you will pay the price."

Kate felt her whole body tremble. "This is absurd! I don't know anything about it!"

Willson gave her a long look, his eyes full of hatred mixed with coldness.

"Unfortunately, you are now my pawn, Kate. The more you resist, the more painful the consequences will be. So you'd better be prepared."

Kate could only stare at him silently, her body frozen.

Kate looked at Willson breathlessly, trying to digest every word that had just rolled out of the man's mouth. Willson's eyes stared at her sharply, like embers burning the air between them.

"Listen, Kate," he said in a low tone, almost a whisper, yet filled with pent-up anger. He stepped closer, until he was only inches away from Kate.

"Your fiancé, the asshole you thought was perfect, cheated on me. He stole millions of dollars from my business, destroyed my reputation, and left scars I can't erase."

Kate shook her head slowly, her eyes reddening. "No... that's not possible. Liam's not that kind of person. He would never-"

"Shut up!" Willson's voice exploded, making Kate flinch. "You think I'm talking without proof? I have all the documents, all the recordings, all the evidence of his betrayal."

"And now, he's living comfortably, getting ready to marry you, while I'm being destroyed behind the scenes!"

Kate felt her chest tighten, as if the room was getting smaller.

"But... it's not my fault. I didn't know anything about this. I wasn't even involved!"

Willson laughed sarcastically, but there was no happiness in his voice. "Maybe you didn't know, Kate. But you're the person he cares about most..."

Willson then approached Kate, and that made Kate spontaneously inch back.

"And since I can't touch her without risk, you will be her substitute. You are the price he must pay for everything he has done to me."

Kate froze, her body feeling cold as ice. "You can't do this... I'm not a thing, Willson. I'm not a tool for your revenge!"

Willson leaned closer again, until their faces were almost touching.

"Listen carefully," he said in a low, threatening voice.

"You are now mine. And as long as you're here, you're going to be the collateral to make sure she feels every hurt she's left on me. So, you better start accepting this fact."

Kate felt her tears fall unstoppably. In front of her eyes, Willson was a storm that could not be stopped, and she could only hold on, praying that this storm would not destroy her completely.

Kate bit her lip, trying to hold back the rumbling in her chest as she stared at Willson who stood calmly by the large window.

His light coming through the glass highlighted his body like a living marble statue-cold, solid, immovable. But Kate didn't care about the man's strength right now. There was only one thing on her mind: freedom.

"I have to go, Willson," her voice broke, almost a whisper, yet full of determination. "I have my own life. You can't keep me here."

Willson turned his head slowly, his eyes dark and full of mystery. "Oh, I can, Kate. And I will."

Kate stepped forward, trying to push aside the fear that gripped her.

"I don't care what Ethan did to you. I don't even know about that! But I... I have the right to live my own life! You know how important marriage is to me. You can't destroy it!"

Willson chuckled, but his voice was cold.

"Important? Your marriage is important? Do you think he views it as important too? Or is he just playing you like he played me?"

Kate shook her head quickly, tears starting to roll down her cheeks.

"I don't care what you think of Ethan. I love him! And I don't deserve to be treated like this because of your grudge against him."

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
