Chapter 1 THE KIDNAPPING

It was a beautiful morning. Ava was on her way to meet her father and his friend, Mr. Brooks, at his company when she witnessed a kidnapping. A group of men were dragging a young, handsome man into a van, heading toward their hideout. Driven by curiosity and her martial arts skills, Ava decided to follow them in her car.

As she approached the hideout, a chilling realization hit her-it was a trap. The leader of the syndicate, Michael Black, had already noticed her.

The man who had been kidnapped was named Kai, a man Ava didn't know, but who turned out to have a complex history. Kai was a retired Army ranger who had recently entered the business world. Years ago, while still serving in the military, he had gone on a mission to take down a syndicate group led by Michael's father. Kai was responsible for Michael's father's death, and the shock of that loss killed Michael's mother as well. Since then, Michael had survived, plotting revenge against Kai and the military.

Ava, however, had no idea about any of this. She was simply caught in the crossfire. Mistaken for one of Kai's allies, she was captured and held hostage for three months. During this time, Kai managed to escape, leaving Ava behind to endure the syndicate's tortures alone.

As Ava was led deeper into the basement, she caught a glimpse of a figure in the shadows. He wore a mask, and with her hands bound and blindfolded, she couldn't see his face. But as soon as he saw her, she froze.

"Who is this?" Ava demanded.

The masked figure didn't respond.

"This is our boss," Roland, Michael's right-hand man, replied.

Ava's heart raced as Michael stepped forward, his eyes never leaving hers. A shiver ran down her spine as he reached out to touch her face.

"You are beautiful," he whispered, his voice low and husky.

Ava pulled away, repulsed. "Don't touch me!"

Michael chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Interesting. Stubborn and strong. I like it."

With that, he turned and left, leaving ava to process the encounter and the danger that still loomed.

A few hours later, Michael's henchmen dragged another person into the room where Ava was being held. The air had been heavy with silence, but the arrival of this stranger broke the oppressive stillness.

The man, blindfolded like Ava, managed to shuffle closer to her. As soon as he was within reach, he leaned toward her and whispered, "Hold still." Gently, he removed the blindfold from her eyes, revealing a rugged yet determined face beneath his own restraints.

"Hi, I'm Kayden," he said, flashing a faint smile.

Ava blinked, taken aback. She hadn't expected to find anyone else in this nightmare. "Ava," she replied hesitantly. "But... how did you end up here?"

Kayden sighed, glancing around the dimly lit basement. "Kidnapped, just like you," he said grimly. "Some men grabbed me on my way home." His eyes darted around the room, scanning for weaknesses or exits. Then he added in a reassuring tone, "Don't worry. I'll find a way to get us out of here."

Ava raised an eyebrow, skepticism written all over her face. "How?" she asked.

Kayden grinned, a flicker of confidence lighting up his expression. "I have a plan."

"What kind of plan?" Ava pressed.

He turned toward her, studying her briefly before asking, "How good is your Kung Fu?"

Ava's lips curled into a faint smile. "Not bad," she replied.

"Good," Kayden said with a nod, his tone firm. "I'll need your help. This isn't going to be easy, but with the two of us, we might stand a chance."

"So, what's the plan?" Ava asked, her voice a hushed whisper, masking the storm of emotions inside her.

Kayden didn't reply, only nodded subtly toward the door. Ava understood-it was time to act.

Minutes later, Ava let out a bloodcurdling scream, pretending to be in agony. The sound echoed through the basement, drawing immediate attention. The door burst open, and three men in black stormed in, weapons at the ready.

"What is it now?" one of them growled.

The men quickly scanned the room and noticed Kayden was missing. Their suspicion turned to Ava.

"Where's the guy that was with you?" one demanded, his tone sharp.

Ava stammered, her voice shaking, "H-he escaped!"

The guards' eyes darted to the open window on the far side of the room.

"Search the area!" Roland, Michael's cold and calculating right-hand man, barked as he entered. His piercing gaze swept the room before focusing on Ava. "Don't stop until you find him. Bring him back alive!"

"Yes, sir!" the guards replied in unison, scattering to search. Roland left, but not before assigning three guards to stay with Ava.

"Don't let her out of your sight," he ordered.

Ava waited until the room settled into uneasy silence, then began to thrash violently, her breathing erratic.

"What's happening to her?" one guard asked, alarmed.

"She's having a seizure!" another shouted.

The guards rushed toward Ava, unsure of what to do. Kayden, hidden in the shadows, saw his chance. He gestured to Ava, signaling her to act.

Ava suddenly stopped thrashing and swung her bound legs, tripping the nearest guard. At that moment, Kayden charged out, striking with ruthless precision.

The guards quickly realized they'd been tricked. One drew his gun and started firing wildly, forcing Kayden to dive behind a dusty table for cover.

"No movement!" one guard barked. They cautiously approached the overturned table, weapons drawn.

As they closed in, Kayden used the element of surprise. Kicking the table over, he sent one of the guards sprawling. Chaos erupted as Kayden maneuvered into another hiding spot, keeping the remaining guards disoriented.

Kayden seized a wooden stick lying nearby. With speed and precision, he swung it hard at the first guard's head. The man dropped instantly.

The second guard turned, but Kayden jabbed the stick into his eyes. The man screamed in agony before collapsing.

The last guard, now furious, grabbed his gun and opened fire. Kayden dove for cover again, narrowly avoiding the bullets. Spotting a discarded pistol, he grabbed it and returned fire.

Meanwhile, Ava struggled to untie herself, her wrists raw and bleeding. She worked frantically as the sound of gunfire echoed through the basement.

Just as Kayden fired a final shot, hitting the last guard square in the forehead, Ava freed herself. She stumbled toward Kayden, relief etched on her face.

"Stay back!" Kayden shouted, his voice thick with urgency.

But Ava didn't heed his warning. As she approached, the last guard-clinging to life-pulled the trigger one last time.

The shot rang out, and Ava crumpled to the ground.

"Ava!" Kayden roared, rage and despair surging through him. Without hesitation, he raised his gun and fired, hitting the guard between the eyes.

Kayden dropped his weapon and rushed to Ava's side. Her blood seeped through her clothes, but she managed a weak smile.

"Does it hurt?" Kayden asked, his voice trembling.

"Not really," Ava whispered faintly.

She coughed, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. "Thank you, Kayden... for saving me."

"No, don't thank me. Just hold on," Kayden pleaded.

Ava fainted in his arms, her body limp. Panic surged through him, but Kayden refused to give up. Gritting his teeth, he lifted her onto his back. Ignoring his own injuries, he escaped through the back door, disappearing into the night.
