Game Of Trust Chapter 1 A reason to live

Richard a graduate of engineering never found life easy years after he graduated from school. He worked menial jobs to earn till he settled for bricklaying. He dreamt of being a boss, he hoped on being the best. He kept on thinking, would he ever achieve his dreams or was being an hobos actually his destiny. What has life got to offer to him?, why does nothing go as he planned? Or was that his fate? While he stood wallowing in thoughts, he was enthralled by the sight of the woman he loved. All emotions he felt showed on his face like a kaleidoscope.

He gazed so desperately at the woman walking towards him. He smiled so bright as though he was never worried about what would become of him in the nearest future, almost as though all would be fine as long as she remained by his side.

"What has gotten the man I adore so lost in thoughts. Hey, I can tell you disturbed over an issue no matter how hard you try to hide it with a smile." A little frown on her face showed the wrinkle on her forehead.

"I am only stressed my love. I wish to be above this level. I was thinking of better ways to make you happy, I was thinking of how much love you have shown me, how much peace I have got within me. You my love are the reason why I am this bold to hold on and not give up." Richard replied holding her hands expressing sadness.

"Life is full of challenges. This is your phase in life and believe me you are the strongest man I know. You have being through the toughest. Remember tough times don't last only tough people do." She said to him with a smile. "I love you." She added.

"I bless the day we crossed path." Richard replied pulling her to himself kissing her deeply. He moved his hands in caress as he touched all of her. He slowly laid her on his bed. Placing a soundless kiss on her lip, he went lower to her neck level, she began to respond accordingly to every kiss and touch she received from him. The grabbed each other in an embrace as they kissed and exchanged DNA's.

Viola a beautiful lady from a wealthy family decided to love from a scratch hiding her identity and wealth. She fell in love with Richard knowing fully he was a lower class. She saw his strength and determination to achieving his dreams and she fell deeply for him. In a world of discrimination, her friends and family were against her choice of love. The discrimination was at the verge of uttering her relationship with the man she loved. Though she hid her identity because of the fear of being loved only for her wealth, she was willing to fight for the love she had for Richard. Her parents were against her loving a hobos let alone live with one. Viola's visit to Lagos was for her best friend's wedding. She planned to stay few weeks but after meeting Richard, few weeks turned into months and finally years. Jane her best friend helped her protect her identity and ensured they were both happy in their relationship.

"I'm sorry for my lateness sir. I was delayed by the traffic." Richard said to his boss who was amazed as at what hour Richard shew up at work.

"Lagos and traffic. It's fine Richard I understand. Adjust your wake up time though I might not be in a good mood to pardon you next time." Mr Chris replied calmly yet authoritatively.

"Yes sir." Richard responded

Even though Mr Chris trusted Richard, he ensured never to make it obvious to avoid jealousy from the other workers. Richard's integrity, honesty and loyalty made him different from others. He ensured all works at the site were properly done. And it attracted Favour from his boss. Richard was made the supervisor of every project and handled all with maturity. Mr Chris knew with Richard, every project was a success. He helped Richard when necessary.

Both lovebirds had the ability to endure. They loved each other in thick and thin. Viola ensured she helped him overcome depression. She prayed for him, encouraged him, stood by him, she understood his fears, she fought for the love she had for him. To Richard, she was his strength and reason to live. Though they fought many times, their love for each other grew daily. To many they were a perfect match, a match made in Heaven.

Richard was known to be a man of integrity. He avoided unnecessary fights from people around him. He focused only on making ends meet for himself and his woman. He made a hobby of calling Viola a swan as her spirit animal because she appeared elegant in motion. She truly was an embodiment of grace.

"My love don't you think you are overworking yourself? It's been long since you rested. You go through stress every single day and you don't even use your free time to rest. You are always lost in thoughts. You know, my dad usually says when a desperate man goes into hunting and kills an elephant then he's overcome poverty and if the elephant kills him, he has overcome poverty. Either way, the aim has been achieved. You are not a poor man, you are strong I know this but you need to quit overthinking it is obviously affecting your health and you still act like you are okay." Viola said to Richard with a voice expressing sadness and fear.

Holding her hands he drew her closer to himself making her listen to his heartbeat, placing a soundless kiss on her lips he smiled and replied "my swan I am sorry I got you bothered. I promise to avoid overthinking and rest with my free time." He then slowly lifted her jaw and kissed her deeply.

It is a new day. A sunny sunday morning with gospel music playing from a nearby neighbors apartment. Richard stepped out to feel the sun on his ebony skin. He stood outside with his hands in his pockets, he inhaled and exhaled deeply letting out a smile showing content. He walked back into his apartment and quickly heated water for his bath. He had literally nothing to do at home as his apartment was always neat. After taking his bath he sat on a chair brought out his Bible, a book and pen, and joined a service online. Viola stepped few minutes after he gone online. They both connected their faith and listened thoroughly. They prayed fervently and jotted down every word. After the service was over, they both went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

"You know, the man of God stated that a born again Christian is likely to face trials which may either break him or mold him. The fact that he told his success story serves as an encouragement to young men who feel like giving up is an option. I know you'll overcome your situation. Like a deer you trust your intuition, you are graceful, gentle, sensitive and you, my love embrace change and growth. I love you so much and I will never leave you for no man. My hearts calls your name." Viola said enthusiastically.

Speechless he smiled, hugged her and kissed her forehead.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I stood in the darkest corner of the Pierre Hotel’s ballroom, my cheap polyester dress itching against my skin while my wristband buzzed with a DARPA Priority Red alert. In front of the city’s elite, my fiancé Bryce Calloway took the stage, not to toast our future, but to publicly end our engagement and announce he was with my sister, Chloe. The room turned on me instantly, a hundred pairs of eyes pinning me down with pity and disgust as they physically backed away like I was contagious. When I returned home, my mother shattered a crystal vase at my feet, screaming that I was a humiliation and a "dropout" who didn't deserve a cent of the family fortune. Chloe and Bryce mocked me, laughing when I told them I had a mission with the National Security Agency, convinced I was either a pathological liar or a low-level criminal. They watched in horror as a black, unmarked military helicopter descended on our backyard to extract me, yet they still chose to believe I was being arrested for drug trafficking. They saw a pathetic girl who couldn't even parallel park, never realizing I was Dr. Nova Vance, the lead physicist behind the world's first successful fusion reactor. To secure funding for my research and gain a "fortress" of a name, I signed a thirty-day marriage contract with the arrogant billionaire Roman Knight. He treats me like a fraud, convinced I’m a gold-digger who failed out of college, while I quietly run global energy simulations from his guest bedroom. He has no idea that the "loser" he’s forced to live with is the same anonymous grandmaster who has been ruthlessly crushing him in online strategy games for months. "The contract is active," I told him, looking past his expensive suit. "But don't expect me to be your maid."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
